I think in some aspects, it's too difficult to compare the two shows.
They take Scifi in two totally different directions. It's similar to comparing StarTrek with StarWars. It just doesnt work.

Well, it works, it just isn't as tidy as most people want it to be (who is the moron who said you can't compare apples and oranges, anyhow? It's easier than comparing say... a groundhog to the Oort Cloud or something like that... but that's more than a bit off topic) Anyhow, I prefer Stargate beause it's a bit more real than Star Trek, though I haven't really watched any pre-Ent Star Trek (outside of some later era Voyager episodes) in years and years, and Stargate has been turning more traditional sci-fi lately, what with all the starships and whatnot being more of the focus/main method of travel, rather than the stargate itself. For the first two seasons or so, SG1 was very much like Star Trek without the starship, with nearly every episode featuring a planet with a strange creature/plant/disease that threatened to destroy the team/base/planet if they don't learn how to kill/communicate with/otherwise remove it within the hour. But, just as I was getting bored of the show, it evolved into a bit more of a continuity/serialized show, which I generally prefer. I'd want to re-watch more of the older Star Treks before I try to decide witch one is better. I have fond memories of Trek, but when I actually think about it, a lot of the things I remember aren't really that good. I think I may... borrow... a friends copy... of the DVDs... *cough*

Wow. Incredible episodes from both SG-1 and Atlantis. SG1: I really loved Browder's and Bridge's characters, I think they have alot of potential this season. As always, Claudia Black (Vala) was hilarious "Let's Make Babies! *smile*", and it almost brought tears to my eyes hearing that SG1 had been disbanded and everyone is doing other stuff now (but I know it wont be that way ) Atlantis: I'll have to give the slight edge to Atlantis this week. I found the Season 2 opener to be fantastic, and this show is really starting to bloom. The Dadelous is freaking sweet, as is it's commander (sparks are gonna fly between him and Weir). I can only imagine what they're gonna do with Lt Ford now that he's fucking crazy. Can't wait for more...

After watching the past two weeks, I really think both shows are hitting there stride early this year.
For SG-1, having Vala there brings so much to the show, and amazingly, her comedy almost makes up for Jack O'Neill's absence.
And on Atlantis, the show is begining to show it's real potential, and is standing up to it's older brother in terms of entertainment value.

Wait, is Vala that chick from Farscape that hijacked the Prometheus and fought and made out with Daniel? She was weird. Edit: Yes, she is. Gateworld.net says so. And it's episode guide reminds me I've missed several episodes of S9.

Yeah, that's her. She was in the first 6 episodes of Season 9. She was brought in to "fill in" for Amanda Tapping (Col Carter) while she was having her baby.
I really enjoyed her stint, and I look forward to them bringing her back.

Whoop-eth for the renewal.
I rented the movie a couple of weeks ago. I forgot how good it was and how much the Disney movie Atlantis: The Lost Empire copied Stargate. I mean, seriously, A:TLE has almost the same storyline as Stargate and almost exact characters with different names. Stargate was excellent to rewatch. Oddly, I have a report to do about polytheism, particularly Egyptian.

Take it outside, Egyptian boy! Unless you plan to write your report about evil aliens posing as Gods and travelling across the galaxy... I agree with above people, although I missed todays episodes on account of sleepiness. The Atlantis one was especially cool, but where did the Deadalus come from? I missed some episodes of SG-1 and the last episode of the last season of Atlantis!

Actually, I was, but due to limited time to research and the rough draft due tomorrow, I was unable to include Stargate's references to ancient mythology.

They announced the creation of the Daedulus in the Season 8 finale of SG-1. And in the SG-1 Season 9 premier, Daniel was scheduled to travel to Atlantis in it's first trip. It's basically the Prometheus' sister ship, but is more advanced since all the cool Asgard stuff was added beforehand, not as an afterthought. Since it's introduction, it's been pretty much been running back and forth from Earth to Atlantis.

I loved the episode "Epiphany" when Sheppard got trapped in that Ancient sanctuary. Awesome story, and it played out really well. Not to mention, that it showd Dr Mckay at his funniest. I mean come on, he referred to Tayla and Ronan as "Conan and Xena". Fucking priceless. Oh, and M.A.L.P on a stick.

Ron on! So as not to be easily confused with the masterless samurai from fuedal Japan of the same name! Ya, I thought he might have left for another show. I wonder did he not have that long a contract or if it was planned to write him out of the show in that way.

but I wonder what would happen if you had O'Neill and MacGyver at the same place... O'Neill: Oh noes! We're trapped by the goa'uld! Here Angus, shoot them with this gun! Macguyver: ::Hastily builds a bomb out of chewing gum and duct tape that hurts the goa'uld but doesn't actually kill them, disctracting them long enough to make his escape:: O'Neill: ::Witty rejoinder:: Edit: Ww? Is that a quadruple-u?

Only seen one S9 episode. Sad. Far as I can tell, it was pretty steeped in Arthurian lore, too, and that sounds pretty neat.
So what's the general consensus on the new not-Jack? Seemed pretty decent to me.

Nix, yeah Season 9 is centered on a new enemy now that the Go'uld are pretty much gone (cept Baal who's still alive and kicking) called the Ori. The season (as you said) deals alot with Arthurian mythology, kinda straying from the Egyptian Lore of old. Quite interesting. Mitchell is pretty good, obviously he will never be as amazing a character as O'Neill was. I find it kinda similar to Jonas taking Daniel's place for Season 6. He did a GREAT job, but he just wasn't Dr Jackson. @Faze: Yeah, I was greatly impressed by the finale. I'm a sucker for big space battles. I mean, we had Earth, the Tokra, the Jaffa, the Lucian Alliance, AND the Asgard all fighting. That's pretty freaking sweet. But I must say, overall I was more impressed with Atlantis this year. They really hit their stride in Season 2, and the plots were just amazing. I loved the episode with the Genii coup and the one where you find out that Colonel Caldwell was a Gould agent trying to destroy the city. Absolutely brilliant stuff... Also, has anyone else heard that Claudia Black will be joining SG-1 as a permanant cast member for Season 10?
