BUMP!

The cover art has been announced and I think that it looks REALLY GOOD. In fact, this is the best-looking set we've gotten so far in my opinion.   :)

I like the blue, but as a whole, it seems too busy for my liking.  I would prefer to have only the family on the couch gag, but I don't have any control over that, do I?

Snowball is a nice touch, and the blue is a lot better than the previous two box sets. Although I agree it looks a tad busy, and I'd prefer only the family on the couch gag too, but what can ya do...

Well, that is a variation on one of the couch gags, it looks like the one where half the town invaded their living room, you clowns!!

They also could have over emphasised those white engraving bits for the picture, the other box sets have them, y'know!

Wow!  That cover is really, really, really... good.

(Unfortunatly, I'm a season behind for that to be a really clever quote, but what the hell.)

For some reason, I thought it was going to be orange.
But anyway, I don't really like that set very much. They're using that damn cast poster background. I see that EVERYWHERE. It's on the figures, it's on posters, it's on shirts, damn! Use an original artwork! But still, the set is going to be cool. I just wished they'd done a different couch gag. Like I hope a future one has the Tracey Ullman era Simpsons on the couch. That would rule.

You probably thought it would be orange, Shadowstar, because that's the color of the graphic guide pages for season 4.  ;)

Obviously half the town wouldn't fit on this cover, not even close, which makes it fall flat in this context. This is why I made above post...

But the fans would get the reference if it was hinted that's what was happening!
We'll wait to see the other sides of the box with the next stage of the gag.

Were the first three DVD's all released on the day that FOX first released?  What other DVD's has FOX pushed back too?  I'm asking this because a couple of people made remarks about the date probably getting pushed back.

I don't know remember if season three got pushed around at all, and its been too long with season one.  Season two got pushed back a ton though, for whole months at a time I think, and multiple times.

I think Season Three got pushed back about a month, but Two was definitely the longest. I think it was originally was supposed to come out at the same time as Futurama S2 (in R2) but actually came out a couple of months after Futurama S3 (again, in R2).

They do in fact exsist and are in stores (including US stores) now.  Haven't checked it out (to be honest I've only seen one episode of the series), but I see it at Target all the time.  They came out in January I think.

Yep. And, may I say that I own the set and it's well worth the money. I believe it came out on January 19th.

Seems to be coming out in the US in only a month or so, but what about the UK? I don't really think I'll buy it, but still I'm curious anyway...

Also, on a DVD related matter, does anyone think if The Simpsons ever ends, will they release a giant and increadibly expensive collectors boxset of every episode ever made? It could contain the movie as well. I think that'd be kinda clool, not that I'd buy it because of all the crap episodes. Actually, would anyone buy that if it ever happened and they could afford it?...

Play.com says: Due for release on 02/08/2004, £29.99 or €47.99.
PlayUSA.com says: Due for release on 15/06/2004, US$48.99 or CA$65.99.

I'd prefer a special request-your-own episodes gigant0r boxset, that way you could filter out the crappy episodes!
Now there's a futuristic idea!  :D

@Otis: Personally, I'd prefer individual seasons. The movie should also fly solo in a two-disc widescreen collectors set.

@Faze: Why? Wouldn't the episodes already be out on season sets by then? I'm not buying the same thing twice dammit!  ;)

Or you could burn your own DVD's with all your favourites on them with the uber-DVD's they'll have in the near future, keep the nice boxes and throw the old DVD's at your chump friends!!

Or sell them, whichever's more fun!

Otis, can't remember the exact date, but I think it comes in August.

And nah, I doubt a huge mega set of every season would do very well.  Packaging a few sets together for convenience is one thing, but a 17+ season set would cost way too much for an individual purchase.  And anyone even willing to spend the money on every season (which I might not; I don't wanna buy 10-12) would have had all or most of them by that point anyway, so why bother?

I wouldn't be suprised if they start packaging several seasons together at a time, but I don't think the whole-damn-thing set would fly.

That's clool it's about August

I can see your points, and yeah, I guess already having the sets would be a big problem. I got the idea from that recent Loral and Hardy set of everything they've ever made (20+ DVD's) in a giant box set. Also that complete James Bond set of every film they've made up to the point of it's release. To be honest I don't think these are major selling sets, but more the kind of sets for genuine collectors. Of course practically every DVD these days has "Collectors edition" or something slapped on it. But if I giant set were to ever be made, then it would be for the genuine hardcore collectors, with big wallets too...

Also, I can also see them grouping sets together in the future as well, quite possibly...

A DVD box set is a peculiar spectacle but a box set of box sets now I'm afraid you've lost me.

Otis its the 2nd August by the way.
So I think that gives a few weeks to enjoy it before the end of summer.

Maybe they could put all the Scully episodes into one a big set. The episodes not from the era could get pushed around to other sets.
I think might have talked about this before but
with Seasons 6-9 we have 25 episode seasons, and the most they seem to be able to put on one disc is 6 episodes so I presume with those seasons we'll get 5 Disc sets. Which I like the idea of owning.

About the Scully-era seasons in one set: this is really improbable (I know it's just a thought though, and I'm not trying to criticize it), because, for one thing, Fox and its subsidiaries most likely don't care how poorly a particular season is recieved by the audience, and thus would see no need to package seasons 9-12 in one set (season 9 isn't really a "true" Scully season, because Al Jean, Bill Oakley & Josh Weinstein, and David Mirkin also were executive producers on some episodes, but I'll count it anyway). Boxing those three seasons in one set would also mean a longer wait between season 8's release and seasons 9-12's. This is because, in order to produce a set of commentaries and special features for four seasons, it would take a longer amount of time to complete. So, (and this is just an estimate, going by how long it takes to produce one season's features) there would probably be about a two-and-a-half year wait between S8 and S9-12. Still, I think that it would be a good idea.

Also, I believe that the Family Guy sets have 7 episodes per disk (granted, not every episode contains a commentary, so not as much space is needed). If Fox had a four-disc set, then the first disc could have 7 episodes and the rest could have 6, making 25 episodes available over four disks. But, I agree, five disk sets would be interesting, mostly because I would like to see the layout of the packaging. But, the only flaw is that the sets would most likely cost more money than 4 disks.
