A poll with good choices, a rarity. Anyway, it's a toss up between Terminator, Matrix, and Back to the Future. I'll go with The Terminator Trilogy, but only just. The others follow close behind  :)

I'm gonna go with the BttF trilogy, because it's three movies are most consistantly entertaining.  (I haven't seen all entries in the LotR or MWNN trilogies, though.)  And I agree with Otis that for once we have a poll with all good choices (though I wish there was room for the Evil Dead trilogy).

Since I've only ever seen 1 of them choices in its entirety, I'm gonna go with The Matrix  :)

I'm gonna have to go oldschool with Star Wars, just for the impact it's had on modern cinema. I think LOTR has a better overall story, but there's too much nostalgia involved for me to be impartial.

Star Wars, but Back to the Future, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings, and to a lesser extent Jurassic Park are all good too.  The Matrix is trash and needs to be burned.

I'm going with Star Wars OT as well. It may change once I see ROTK, but the setting in Star Wars is what puts it over the LOTR trilogy for me.

I'm voting LOTR, out of faith that ROTK won't suck.  But, even if the unlikely happens and it does... there is as enough in the first two for three movies already.

According to what I have read, you have nothing to worry about.

And I'll vote for The Lord of the Rings, of course.

Yo` I have to give it to the godfather... the first two are the single greatest mob movies ever written but... well..the third kinda sucked the biggest one... ever...::Gotta hold my traditions::

My opinion on the single best trilogy ever is definitly, (As far as new goes) LOTR, because Peter Jackson needs his goddamned rewards... but as far as old-school goes... It's Indy all the way and my god do I love it... the pure hilarity and wonderous action sequences that were so incredibly original for thier times.

I didn't think that "A New Hope" was all that it coulda been but hey... it was Star Wars.... and it was 77` so I can sympathize completely... but I still don't think that it's the greatest trilogy of all time... and Indy isn't gonna be a trilogy for much longer... they're talking about making another. ::War crys in joy::... but untill then it's still my favorite old school  trilogy...

1. Back to the future - All 3 movies are great.
2. Austin Powers - Number 3 sucked but the 2 first are awsome.
3. Indiana Jones - All 3 movies are the same quality but not as good as any of the above mentioned trilogys.

What's the matter, chicken?

Ohh I almost tottaly forgot the greatest cheesy trilogy of all time... and my personal all time favorite (for comedies I mean).... EVIL DEAD!!!.... How can you beat the low-quality/low-budget... extremely campy Sam Rami's classic???

LOTR all the way, baby. Along with SW classic. (I'm designing a lightsaber and an unorthodox jedi costume at this moment- hope I can find metal and fabric for it), I'm in LOTR-mode right now and I really miss it already... going to see ROTK again soon. I voted for LOTR because of the sheer quality of the movies. The design, the way the book was well-interpreted (when they stuck with the book). It just feels right.

When you say best trilogy with the term in mind being "all three have to be good", then LOTR takes the cake by far. All three movies are amazing and each get better than the last one. But my favorite trilogy is Star Wars because it's a classic and I've seen the trilogy so many times.

This is an incredibly tough poll. A good trilogy has to develop a story through the entire series, yet without looking like a derivative of the movies that preceded it.
This means it can be tough to sustain quality through three movies. Star Wars weakened notably during the final chapter.
BTTF and Indiana Jones are top notch, but the best trilogy is LOTR. IT is brilliant set of movies.

One thing I'd like to note: While I like all of them to some degree I think people are forgetting exactly how the BTTF films progressed.  Number two had little of that charm that made the first one so wonderful, and the third is a wacky tangent that isn't even as good as number two.  The first is easily and by far the best, so not the most balanced trilogy really.
