I think the two modern day giants for Aussie telly are Neighbours and Home and Away.  Nothing wrong with a bit of soap now and again and these two are the only good ones these days.  Personally i prefer Neighbours.  Would like to hear from someone who thinks Home and Away is better. I admit it has its good points but Neighbours is better consistantly.

Quite brave of you, admitting a liking of Neighbors  :p. I have no strong feelings one way or the other, but Neighbors is more comfortable and familiar.

I watched Skithouse the other day, expecting it to be quite poor, but it seems to have lifted its game quite a lot since earlier on. Actually, that was the second episode of Skithouse that I've watched semi-recently, and they were both well above my expectations. What's going on?

I don't know. I still haven't watched an entire episode of that show since the very disappointing first episode... I normally tend to give new comedies a chance, but Skithouse is just so lame and immature... it's like it was written by a bunch of 5-year-olds.

Anyway, I got Foxtel Digital installed last month, and it's great! My only complaint is that I'd much rather have a magazine TV guide than one you have to access on the TV, but at least you can put it to remind you when a show's about to come on... Also, most channels actually own 2 different channels, and they tend to broadcast their stuff twice (usually 2 hours apart). It sounds pretty repetitive and pointless, but I think it's a great idea. If you miss a show, you can still catch it on its second airing 2 hours later. Oh, and the quality is great - as you'd expect with Digital.  :)

yes quite brave to admit that, but i will agree with u that Neighbors is consistantly better, however Home and Away, must a have a new director or someting, i've seen some good camera work, and digital effects put in here and there, thou i don't watch them all the time i see it a fair bit due to other family memebers watching it....but keep an eye out for some good camera work, thats one think Neighbors lacks

thats and good actors, lol.

The only really bad thing about Neighbours is that is that it has got gradually shorter.  On BBC1 i remember it being at least 30 minutes long, now it is only 20!  So unfair.

Neighbours is entertaining and it is on at the right time and it is consistant.

England winning the Rugby World Cup way poetry in motion.  McNeil, your only complaining because your probably Australian and your still upset the way your little con arses got raped in the final.  They were just better than you and you can handle that.  I mean you are just a bunch of pussies, a prime example is the way you called some of the players that may i add beat you in the final old, what a load of tripe!  So shut up and sit down.

Allow me to grant you the same liberty, this is a message board, not a chatroom.

And you like rugby...
I'll just give up now, while i'm ahead.

As for Neighbours, it's crap, but i watch it, or at least listen to it, usually. It being on after The Simpsons and all.
Also i heard from a friend, that Neighbours has over 4,000 episodes, is that for real?

EDIT : Sorry about the rather pointless, small bump, damn thing was still cached on the index page...

I'm glad I waited a while rather than buying season 4 as soon as it was released- I got it today from JB Hi Fi for, wait for it... $33! Huzzah!

I paid all $90 for the initial release. And I don't regret a thing.  :D

Also... are there any good shows on Free-to-air TV here that I don't know about? Tuck away at some obscure hour or something? I'd watch the Sopranos, but it's like the 5th season or something and I'd get all confused.
My Tv watching consists solely of 'The Simpons' and... er... Angel. I started to watch 24, but heave gotten bored when I started to be able to predict everything.

Oh wait, just remembered, Black Books is back on! Fridays! Repeats, but that's okay, I haven't seen them all anyway!

Pff, I don't even care about Rugby, I'm just surprised you like Neighbours. Primarily in Australia it's just teenage girls who watch it.

Well i thought i'd resurrect this thread.  Has anyone been watching big brother?

I saw a bit of it the other day while channel surfing (yes all 6 of them thanks to Briz 31, with so few channels it was enevitable that i would end up on Ch 10)

That show has gone downhill big time (not that it was ontop to begin with)  And now that Aussie Idol is starting up again i think that its going to follow a similar path.

Why can't they bring back some decent TV shows instead of this reality rubbish?

P.S also did anyone watch the Poms get their arses kicked on Sat night?

Whaddya mean 'gone downhill big time?'

You see, that might imply that one time, it was a good show to watch. And you know how impressionable these message board folk are.

That would have to be one of the worst Australian imitations i have ever seen. If by some miniscule chance that you are actually Australian, stop giving Yankees the idea that we are all Steve Irwin clones.

Was that from anyone here? I'm not angry (I found it quite funny), just curious.

I've got no clue as to when Merrick and Rosso are coming back on, but I remember a useless bit of trivia about them: They're playable characters in multiplayer XIII!
As for your profile zoidyzoid, I never noticed it before, but you should add more Aussie jokes like Fair Dinkum. I'm not going to be pointing fingers here but it's written similar to how Neil McNeil writes here.

What are you trying to saying?  Just kidding, i never actually look @ ppl's profiles and wasn't aware of 'old mate Zoidy Zoid's' till now.  The way i write on msg boards is just to style-ize it.

Anyhoo, Merric and Rosso, i think is coming back l8r in the yr prob around Sept (give or take a month)

I guess this is an appriate place to post this, but is anyone looking frwd to the Olympics (assuming the greeks finish on time)?  its like 40 days of somehting away, i really couldn't care less....well actually aside from the fact that Ch 7 will drop regular programing.

I can't say I'm that interested in it, apart from the swimming of course  :D (as I'm a swimmer for those who don't know). As long as Australia doesn't win much and shuts the hell up about how good they are, I'll be happy.

There's actually a girl from my club who is swimming in the 4x200 freestyle relay after coming 4th at Olympic Trials, which I also swam at... and came 48th or something... I wasn't there to qualify, obviously.

I may watch one or two events, but generally I find the Olympics to be a pretty boring affair. Although I generally hate all televised sports.
During the Sydney and Atlanta Games it got rid of decents shows on TV but with the state of TV these days it's probably an improvement.

The most annoying thing on TV apart from Reality TV now days on Aussie TV is the 6:30 lineup on Channel 7 and 9. Half of their program is dedicated to the "new health scare the government doesn't want you to know" and how we're all going to die soon because of a previously unknown ingredient food that makes nearly no difference at all to your health. It's the exact opposite of the interesting and important news on SBS that's on at the same time.

Has anyone else noticed that Channel 7 has been airing a few movies lately that Channel 10 usually air (Terminator 1, Men in Black, etc.)? I think they may have bought some movies off Channel 10 or something... Which wouldn't really surprise me, considering that Channel 10 supposedly blew the majority of their budget in the first half of this year, or so I've heard.
