Most under-rated movie: Dune.

Dune had vision that most other sci-fi films of it's time lacked.  I'll give you that a bit of the dialouge is slated, the plot a bit excentric to say the least, but I think it's a film of exceptional vison for it's day and age, in standing out against being cast as a pop-culture knockoff of star wars.

Most under-rated actor/actress - Brad Dourif

I;ve only ever seen him in two roles: One flew over the Coocoo's nest and The X-Files episode "Beyond the Sea."  In both of these roles, I couldn't help but be amazed at his ability to become a character, no matter how bizzare they may be.

Most under-rated director: Sidney Lumet.

All I can say is that after seeing Network, and fail-safe I can't understand why Sidney Lumet isn't hardly remembered as the ingenious film-maker he truly was.  kinda sad really.

Runners up:
"Dark City"
Daniel-Day Lewis
Roger Corman

Or have you got a better list?

I agree with that completely.

If anything, Star Wars is a knock-off of Dune, not the other way around.  Remember, Dune was originally a novel, and the book was around long before Star Wars was.

UHF with Weird Al and Michael Richards is one of my favorite movies ever. However none of my friends have even heard of it. I was so syked when it was released on DVD last summer after being out of print for vhs for years.

Good call.  UHF is a wildly hilarious film, that simply got trounced by overhyped blockbusters on release.  Fear not, as it will live on as a cult classic.

Thank you.  I knew there was something farmilair about that creepy guy.  Damn, he's older than my dad.  This guy should be frikkin' HUGE by now.

Also: Silly me.  Brad Dourif was in Dune.
 that one slipped right by me.
