Yeah, that's the new Starfleet uniforms. Who else thinks they're almost or as lame as The Motion Picture's jumpsuits?

Also: No Shatner because Kirk is dead? Translation: lame. There was a 3-movie story arc about Spock dying!

So they are destroying the continuity once again..

so in the end the colorful pijama uniforms would be simply a 5 year nosense from starfleet? and before / after that they were more tolerable?

Apples and oranges.

Sure, some author by the name of William Shatner (oh, what a surprise!) wrote a Star Trek novel in which Kirk was resurrected after his death on Veridian III (damnit, why didn't they use the original version of Kirk's death in Generations?), but face it, Kirk was a Human and Spock is a Vulcan and they did make it quite clear that this whole resurrection thing was a 'one-time only' business.

Besides, has anybody looked at Shatner recently? Judging by his appearance on Boston Legal massive CGI trickery would be necessary to make him recognisable as Kirk...   :p

Hahahahaha aw, that's horrible... but kind of true. I've been watching TOS Season 3 after just watched BL Season 1, and, in some of the shots, he looks the same, but then, in others, he looks totally different. Sometimes I can't even recognize that TOS Kirk and movie Kirk are the same person. But, hey, what do you expect when somebody did TJ Hooker?!

I still want somebody more than just Spock. I definitely wouldn't mind Uhuru, Sulu, or Chekov, considering that two of those three are active in television on the same show! Hell, they could easily work in even a TNG-era character as Spock's trying to explain to them something about Kirk. I'd rather a flat TOS movie, but I wouldn't be complaining if they did that. It just seems like just Spock is not enough.

I'm walking on thin ice here, but it seems to me that the story of the film begins somewhere in the TNG timeline, perhaps even after the events of Nemesis. Thus it's impossible to work in any other character than Spock, since he is not human, therefore it's easier to sell to the audience that he would be still alive some 100 years after the TOS era...

I do think that the use of the 'old' Spock is some sort of attempt to bring the franchise back to the 23rd century, after the previous film to place in the 24th century. One should consider the films and the TV shows to be separate entities, depsite that the films were basically the result of the TV shows.

I love it when people are negative. I get to be cheerful and contrary at the same time!

That being said, the uniform looks almost the same as the TOS uniforms, except for the colour and the hat and the turtleneck. And since the individual in question appears to be female, the trousers would seem to be anomalous as well.

You know, if we don't end up liking this film, we can always disown it. You're talking to someone who doesn't believe the Trek is canon unless Spock is half Vulcanian.

Are you Gene Roddenberry's ghost? Or are you possessed by his katra? Because otherwise you won't be able to disown anything.   :p
(And even when you are either his ghost or are influenced by his katra, you still wouldn't have anything to say about it. Sorry Gene.)

To be honest, I'm a bit sick of all this 'That's not part of the Star Trek canon!' talk. I do assume that this remark was rather meant to be a joke (am I right?), but I do find these remarks tiresome, regardless whether they are serious or not.

I wasn't so much declaring what was canon and what wasn't as much as clarifing what part of canon I actually held in any sort of regard.

As for what the 'canon' of any particular series actually is, that's a question of deep philosophy.  My sister could probably debate on with you for hours about it.

If this movie sucks (which I think it very well might), I think we can safely trade its canon value for the Shatnerverse's. Kirk forever!

2. Defiant-class

My fav 5 trek Ships:

1- Soyuz class (USS Bozeman)

2- Excelsior class
3- Sovereign class
4- Galaxy refit (3 nacelle variant)

5- Doubtfull here, probably the Constitution refit.. but the Maqui attack ship was a sexy design as well.

Is curios that i really dont like the Galaxy class design.. (and i eated 7 seasons and one movie of TNG with it) its to me diss-proportioned.. a hell big saucer section attached to a small drive section with small nacelles (in comparison to the saucer).. the Nebula class using the same saucer is more proportioned to me... but in the Galaxy class something was off..too front heavy and butt light..
but adding that third nacelle and the front saucer  under stuff made it a hell lot cooler.. i love the Galaxy refit design.. the thrid nacelle makes it look more compensated .. is funny hoy only adding a nacelle and a bit of hardware in the front made the Galaxy look so diferent (and better to me)

1 Akira, hands down
2 Sovereign
3 Defiant
4 Prometheus

I was very dissapointed with the Intrepid. The nacelle design is just half-assed.

Non federation:
D'Deridex
Vor'Cha
Negh'Var (and the alternative universe equivalent, or was that the other one...)

(1)Constitution - Can't go past the original.
(2)Intrepid - I like the shape.
(3)Excelsior - What TNG should have used, instead of the overblown Galaxy class.
(4)D-12 Bird of Prey - rough and utilitarian, like my car.

the Yeafer is indeed cool..

the Rhode Island variant of the Nova class is also much better than the original Nova... its like someone polished the minor faults (IMHO)

So the ST movie will be told via flashbacks or are we going to see the Constition class in all its original glory (after seing it back in DS9)

i saw the "construction" teaser only.... but i readed somewhere that it will start in TNG time wich is quite confusing...
when i say "original glory" i mean we will se the Constitution as it was meant, a new powerfull class.. we saw it CGI in the DS9 episode but even there it was more nostalgic touch and the Defiant was nearby cloaked.. i wonder how they are going to make the original design work as a cool brand new powerfull convincing design and not a "60s rocket thing"
