Originally posted by edeltraut: Maybe it's because I was expecting it to be terrible after last year's disaster of a Christmas special, but I actually liked it. I'm a sucker for stories about space tourists. I just tried my best to ignore the really cheesy bits, and enjoyed the rest. I thought it had a bit of a Sylvester McCoy vibe to it, in a good way, with the obligatory Russell T Davies cheesiness thrown in. Exactly the same, only I laughed at the cheesy bits. It's how I cope with life, come to think of it. Let's see, best use of the Doctor saying 'forty-two', loved the design of the ship. Music was pretty good, although Astrid's Theme sounded disturbingly similar to a certain tune made famous by James Cameron and Celine Dion... And 'Stowaway' added a bit of a joyous touch at the end. Sweet. Sweet as in 'very moving', that is. Made me smile, it did. I also think that Richard Bucket would have made a great companion. But, you gotta think, maybe the Doctor realised that his adventure-drenched life was not the safest place for such an elderly bloke. That's one way of looking at the matter, I suppose. To tell the truth, I'm quite looking forward to Donna. Lovely chemistry there'll be, for sure. And have you heard the news about the next series' Doctor-lite episode? I hope they execute this well... It has so much potential...

The second episode of this series was much better than the first and much darker. I think the episodes that do not take place on present day Earth are better by and large... although Blink broke that rule at it is my favourite episode to date. It was nice that The Doctor had to make the choice to sacrifice 20,000 people rather than just letting it happen I hope future episodes are as good as that one

Agreed, I thought the episode was absolutely fantastic, maybe not as powerful as Family of Blood or overall greatness of Blink but it was really, really good, and although I didn't dislike the first episode, this one was much, much better. I like Donna so far, and I'm kinda glad they've got the "yes I'm from Galifrey and yes it's all gone" bit out of the way already. Very much looking forward to the rest of the season. Also, you notice how that's two episode, two alien societies that have lost their or a key planet and relocated to Earth and the Doctor has gone "how can you "lose" a planet!?" or words to that effect? Interesting plot arc, perhaps? ;-) Other thing about this and last week's was that while I felt that sometimes the effect in the first episode looked a little tiny bit cheap, I thought the production values on this one looked really impressive.

Gosh, I love series4, if they keep up to this standard all along that would be awesome, brilliant situations and hilarious moments. Especially this one, the first episode was kinda cheesy sometimes with the potatoes (but still it had some hilarious scenes as well). Donna definitely, undeniably rules. And the water pistol made me ROFL XD I always loved the parts when they give us hints about the finale. Like The Impossible Planet, or Gridlock, or the Torchwood, Bad Wolf, Vote Saxon things.

I noticed that too Zed. I think it's gonna end being a "bad wolf" or "mr.saxon" type thing, where it appears throughout the series, then climaxes at the end to be a whole big story

I liked the Pompeii episode. The dialogue was a bit iffy in some places but overall it was very good (and the special effects made up for last week's episode with the aliens that looked like damp rolls of toilet paper). Catherine Tate's dramatic acting was on par with her comic acting (the "don't run to the beaches" scene was great). I noticed the "lost planet" thing as well. Presumably that's going to continue in one form or another this week (I think I remember the Ood episode a couple of years ago saying that their planet had gone). And planets have been "lost" before: The Daleks' and Time Lords' planets come to mind....

Futurama rip-off alert Energy barriers never work in sci-fi. Tim McInnerny should have trapped the Ood brain in a crummy world of plot holes and spelling errors or, failing that, sent the Ood-fo-sphere into a parallel universe.

@Bendersfan1221 If you go on youtube around 11pm the night Doctor Who is shown and search "DW -insert ep.title here-" you can usually find it. That's how I watch it. Yeah, I caught the use of the shadow proclamation too. And I was thinking the song reference meant a regeneration but now I'm not too sure...

Wow I really liked the Ood episode. I really feel so sorry for them. I was amazed with the part on what they did to the baddie. That was brilliant.
Looking forward to next week's episode where Martha is back

Fantastic, another worldwide present-day alien infiltration. But, putting that minor issue to the side... The Doctor's magic wand is becoming more and more useless! But, putting that minor issue to the side... I don't know how this Doctor is being written, but he's gone past being 'domestic'. He comes off as an egotistical git for the majority of this episode, from the moment he starts his insistence 'don't start fighting'. The last episode had some of this as well. Remember his reaction when Donna called the TARDIS just a box? He was offended. The Doctor I used to know would have been offended for the TARDIS, but it wouldn't harm his own ego. It's a very telling moment, and one which I dread. RTD has stated that the episode after next will 'change' the Doctor in a profound way, I really hope it does. (At the same time, I dread its coming as well, for reasons it would be tedious to embark upon at this point in time, but I quite possibly probably will at some point in the future.) This episode did, however, feature the best scene of the entire series four so far. It really shows the Doctor's paranoia at being left alone, as well making up for all the Doctor/Companion bonding scenes that seem to have been cut from this series, and fantastically displays the depth of their relationship. Plus we have Catherine Tate saying 'Grea' big, ou'e' space, dunce!' in that irresistible quite interesting accent. Things to note for the series four arc:- The fifteenth broken moon of the Medusa Cascade is mentioned. And then rementioned.
- Donna is learning how to fly the TARDIS. (I will not squee, I will not squee, I will not squee...)

Next week's episode has the potential to either be freakin' awesome or destroy the foundation of one of my childhood icons.
Right now I'm feeling rather optimistic. Which is good.

Next week's episode does look promising. I thought his daughter looked familiar, a quick check on IMDb revealed her to be Abigail Nixon from The Bill which I haven't watched in years.

I did. Loudly and unashamedly. - The fifteenth broken moon of the Medusa Cascade is mentioned. And then rementioned.
Connected to that, I stumbled across potential spoilers for the rest of the season. Urgh. Oh, and this week's episode looks good. A token mention of the rest of Doctor's family would be loverly.

wow, just...wow First off, I cant believe he gets a cloned daughter before the opening credits. Then we find out shes a time lord, shocker. Then she's dead, which I expected. But then I was basically sobbing I felt so bad for the doctor. And I seriously thought he was gonna shoot that guy. But now that she's still alive....what's this gonna mean, now that there's two timelords running around?
