It doesn't sound that bad to me. So the site owner's calling it quits; it looks like all the "important" content is going to remain online in some form or other. They're not even shutting down the forum.

I am getting so fed up with the Outpost Gallifrey forum. It's all "rah rah RTD is awesome!" in the new show discussion section and God help you if you don't fall into lockstep with the rest of them. There's hardly any point in discussion if it's just going to be an echo chamber for blind praise.

I just don't get why people get so personally invested in a tv show. Why all the bile? It's no skin off my back if you think Blink was terrible and Last of the Time Lords was the best episode ever. But say you think RTD isn't a very good sci-fi writer and you're looking forward to his replacement, and they act like you just insulted their grandmother.

Also, I can't stand the word "squee".

I agree about the forums, edeltraut. I was simply commenting because the site was kind of an 'official' Doctor Who compendium. Once you found out how to navigate it, that is.

And my post before last seems to have gotten lost at the bottom of the page...

hey Xanfor, I found you on OG! Check your PMs!

I don't want to believe that rumor. What is he, 24 years old? That's way too young.

Press releases!

Quote
Jane Tranter, Controller, BBC Fiction:

"Doctor Who is one of the BBC's best loved and most successful dramas. Its journey over the past three series has been one of the most ambitious and exciting that we have had, and I'm delighted to be able to confirm not only three exciting specials for 2009, but a fifth series in 2010."

Quote
Menna Richards, Controller, BBC Wales:

"The success of Doctor Who is a fantastic tribute to the dedication and expertise of the production team at BBC Wales who have worked on the project from the outset. This announcement is marvellous news for all involved, and more importantly for the programme's amazing fan base and audience. BBC Wales is looking forward to producing the fifth series."

PMs checked, edel. Your turn.  ;)

As much as I like Doctor Who, They have worked very hard , and at there extreame best to get to were they are, and they deserve a breack, as long as we see a few specials to keep other fans and my adrenaline up, It wouldn't matter. Oh look...its coming 2009. Although I don't think my Dad will be too happy about it. Its pretty much one of few shows he watches.

There are mirrors out there for tv-links.  And lesser known sites that do the same thing.  That's all I can say on the matter, but it might lead you down the right track LFF.

Christmas special trailer. Lots of familiar looking stuff in there. I wonder if Fry and Leela will kiss or if the Doctor will dip his finger in bisque.

Yes. It answered my question about the Series 1 continuity. I wonder if Russell T Davis is a big Futurama fan. 'Cause if he says this isn't referencing it, he's totally insane in the mainframe. HA!

That was, I think, a tip of the hat to Douglas Adams, Futurama (I counted references to three episodes), the film Titanic, and possibly an intentional reference to a Wesley Snipes film near to the beginning. At least two nods to Star Trek TOS, and a possible set-up for a recurring character. Nerdfest.

Disappointing that whilst clearly the passengers were from an alien civilisation in the future, there were still flip-phones in evidence. Obviously, the heights of technology are bordered by immense plateaus.

I only saw two specific ones: A Flight to Remember (Titanic obviously) and Hell is Other Robots (the angel lifting scene). Unless you're inlcuding Space Pilot 3000 as the first episode to feature a head in a jar. I wasn't paying much attention towards the end, my interest sapped by how awful it was. Typical Russell T Davies fare: excessive choral music, slow-motion shots of the Doctor striding towards the camera, and some unfortunate person plummetting to their death from a bridge-like structure. The Doctor came off as a complete bastard at the end with that "I travel alone" crap. Having Richard Bucket as a companion could have been the best thing to happen to him.

I didn't see much of it, only the last 20 minutes or so, but yeah, have to agree.  Terrible.  Kylie can't act her way out of a paper bag, and the villian was sub-Dr. Evil.  Bleh!

Maybe it's because I was expecting it to be terrible after last year's disaster of a Christmas special, but I actually liked it. I'm a sucker for stories about space tourists. I just tried my best to ignore the really cheesy bits, and enjoyed the rest. I thought it had a bit of a Sylvester McCoy vibe to it, in a good way, with the obligatory Russell T Davies cheesiness thrown in.

I rather enjoyed it too, sure it was cheesy at times but it is designed to appeal to younger viewers. I didn't think Kylie's acting was too bad.
