....moving on.......

Thought last nights episode was the best new Doctor Who episode I've ever seen, as terrifying as it gets for 7.10 on a saturday evening  :D

Blink certainly was a good episode, the best of the current series, I thought there was a far greater sense of danger because the Doctor wasn't the protagonist. It was probably not as scary as some of the episodes starring Tom Baker as the Doctor as back then each story was spread over several episodes.

I had a few reservations leading up to the showing, but it was really a brilliant episode. I thought last weeks was stunning, but this one was as well for different reasons. I really do think that on the whole this season has been the best of the new-format Doctor Who.  :D

Blink was brilliant. The new Doctor Who has had its share of clunkers but these past three episodes have completely redeemed the series for me. Now if they'd just get rid of Russell T. Davies and replace him with Steven Moffatt, or at least give him more than one episode a season. He's the best thing to happen to the show.

Tonight’ episode was excellent. I love it when Jack cames back and I was exerting bit of slash with Jack and the Doctor but.......

I am going to be looking forward for the next episode.

Holy wow! I just found this thread, and now I think I may have to permanently live here. Oh, I can't wait until Doctor Who next week! But there's just a few things I need clearing up...

1. I heard from a friend that this is the Master's fourteenth regeneration.
2. Wasn't he put on trial on Skaro anyway?

I'm rather confused at how he can be alive and well right now. Does anybody know?

I see three possibilities there.

1) It was established in the 1996 movie that Timelords can "steal" regenerations from each other. Maybe the Master managed to do this offscreen sometime before the Time War. Don't know if I buy that explanation, since the movie also introduced some other wacky ideas like the Doctor being half human. At this point I'm not sure the writers of the new show are even acknowledging that the movie ever happened.

2) The twelve regenerations thing was just an artificial limit set by the Timelords. Now that they've all been wiped out in the Time War, the survivors can regenerate all willy nilly as many times as they want with nothing to stop them.

Or what I find most likely,

3) The writers gave up all pretenses of continuity with the old show and trashed the twelve regeneration limit. Instead of killing off a main character or ending the show, they're way more likely to come up with some half-assed explanation/excuse for why the characters keep regenerating, so it's not something I worry about. They might even explain it sometime in the next two episodes.

I just wrote a huge essay about Doctor Who. Somebody kill me now.

Well Tennant is being referred to as the Tenth Doctor (as opposed to the ninth if the TV movie was being ignored). Also, I don't know if you've seen it, but in Human Nature a page of John Smith's journal which shows some of the Doctor's previous incarnations in it has McGann's Doctor displayed, and he's actually right in the centre of the page (here if you're interested).

Yeah, if they want to carry on with the show beyond a certain point (which they almost certainly will) then I think they'll just come up with something to allow them to do so.

No, they wouldn't do that. I find it much more likely that falling into the Eye of Harmony during the much-dissed 1996 Movie somehow altered the Master's gentic structure. Or at least had something to do with it...

I think the only bit the current series doesn't follow is the Doctor's half-human bit. And I never bought that to begin with.

The Master is evilly sexy especially in his dressing gown and he is still funny in some parts.

Yeah, the're's two things i'm not totally understanding:
Also, about the aging thing, alot of people think the Doc's about 50 or something, he's meant to be 900, he aged to 1001 (The whole "One Year Later" thing) and he turned 1901. Just wanna clear it up.
I think that John or "Sam" was good as the Master, really energetic play. Pretty good episode.

Well it was slightly unorthodox - but pretty darn cool. I think it needed to be unorthodox though. I did really enjoy John Simm being there, looks like he had an absolute ball of a time doing it.

There's the "So what's the deal with" that people are asking but I won't bother with that right now.

The reset button resolution was pretty pathetic but John Simm was hilarious. For some reason, in the scene where he was in his dressing gown, he reminded me of Simon Pegg. Hopefully the Master will come back as Philip Glenister next time.

It had its moments and John Simm is a great actor, but on the whole I was disappointed. I think it could have been much better if they had given it to someone else to write. It was a typical Russell T. Davies episode, with pop culture references that will be extremely dated in a few years and plot points that just don't make much sense when you think about them. He's done a good job with bringing the show back and all, but I don't think he writes very good sci-fi. The ending was unbelievable - clap your hands if you believe in Timelords! Gah.

The last 15 minutes of the last episode last night was some of the best acting I have ever seen.
David Tennant played it extremely well...almost brought a tear to my eye...

...although I havent watched much of this series apart from that bit-I dont fancy being in floods of tears every week, although it is brilliant.

One: Nothing has been confirmed concerning Jack and Boe. For all we know the dialogue could have been just a shaggy dog story.

Two: Clap your hands if you believe in Time Lords? Fantastic! (Mind you, the idea wasn't executed very well. But it was a great idea, nonetheless...)

Three: The police box is impaled upon a ship's bow. A Jack and Rose from quite another reality are in for quite a shock. However, the presumed identification disappointed me. You see, the real one never had these with her name on them.    :hmpf:

edit: I hope I was subtle enough to justify not using spoilers...

I guess I'm ok with that as long as they don't play Do the Locomotion (or any of her other songs) at any point in the episode. Which, given their track record, you just know they will.

Ok, me rewatch old episodes, and methink me notice something about Daleks in new series...

1) When they fire their Dalek guns, the flesh of their victims' flashes brightly and becomes transparent and their bones become briefly visible.
2) Their ships are flying saucers, with tops that rotate in one direction, bottoms in the other and central hubs which remain stationary.
3) When the ships fly across the screen in a majestic fashion, an erie sort of chanting music plays, which sounds almost identical to something very similiar...
4) The camera angle used for this 'majestic fashion' is also almost identical to something very similiar...

Can anyone say 'ripoff of Mars Attacks!'?

Also, perhaps I've discovered the new series four story arc?

I'd say it was just a subtle callback to The Idiot's Lantern, but given Russell T. Davies' track record concerning being subtle with anything ever, you just might be on to something.

Also, that's the most cartoony looking bomb I've ever seen outside of Bugs Bunny. It's awesome.

Skaro is apparently destroyed sometime in the 30th Century through the actions of the Seventh Doctor, when the stellar manipulator device known as the Hand of Omega turns Skaro's sun into a supernova (Remembrance of the Daleks).
