 Personally I'm not a fan of either of the fat, oafish buffoons, but without Homer, there would be no Peter, so in a sense there is only one winner.   :hmpf:

The question is "Who is funnier?". It doesn't matter which one came first or who is more original. Peter's just a funnier character even though the idea of his character was spawned from Homer. When you go to see a movie, then see a parody of the movie, which one is funnier? The original or the parody? The parody  of course! Just think of Peter as a parody of Homer.

But a parody usually takes something that wasn't meant to be funny in the first place and makes it funny. And Homer was always meant to be funny even if in recent years he hasn't met the mark.
