Half-Life!!
If it was done as well as the game, awesome!!
But it probably wouldn't be so DON'T EVEN TRY IT HOLLYWOOD!!

And Futurama shouldn't be there.
GTA neither, that could be any film based on the life of a New Yorker!

They're making a Max Payne movie but Mel Gibson basically already did it in Payback.

There has NEVER been a good movie based on a video game.  (Mortal Kombat was NOT good.  It was enjoyable, yes, but that doesn't make it good.)  That said, that would suggest that one's due.  Personally, I'm waiting for Wes Craven to make American McGee's Alice (a rumour from late 2000).

None of the GTA games could be made into movies. Vice City is based on Scarface and GTA3 was based on either the Godfather series or Goodfellas.
Grim Fandango would be horrible as a movie because George Lucas would probably be involved in it. Let's not forget that every movie Lucas touched after Star Wars and Indiana Jones turned to shit, plus he relies on special effects way too much in his more recent movies. Aw, special effects, beloved crutch of the untalented.
Never heard of Broken Sword though it does sound familiar.
If there is ever a Futurama movie, I doubt it'd be based on the game. In fact, I'd pray to God that it wouldn't be based on the game.
Prince of Persia would probably make a decent movie, but I doubt anyone will ever make a movie of it.
Time Crisis is overrated and the same goes for Jak and Dexter/Ratchet and Clank. Honestly, who'd watch a movie based on a platform game?
(Remembers the monstrosity that was "Super Mario Bros. the Movie)
As for Splinter Cell, Tom Clancy already has way too many mediocre (okay one or two are good) action movies under his belt and Splinter Cell is pretty similar to tons of other movies.
Metal Gear Solid would probably be the most possible and enjoyable game-based movie. The game has a ton of fans, good graphics, good and mostly original storylines, a memorable cast, and something all movie execs love: possibilities for more sequels and lots of merchandise! But let's not forget all those things also apply to Tomb Raider, and everyone knows the Tomb Raider movies were the most horrible game-based movies since that Street Fighter movie (Resident Evil wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be).

All games turned into movies suck. Very often games are based on movies without being the game movie (like Scarface and GTA etc.).

The original ads to FF7 boasted 'they said it couldn't be done in a major motion picture!  They were right!

Jak and Daxter would make a good movie. It really got me into the environments, and I was captivated by the game play. When I finally won it, I felt like my life had no purpose any more. It's be easy to cast, there's enough of a plot to fly as a movie, and plenty of potential for eye candy.

Mine's not on the list.

But first on the list, Metal Gear Solid is already kind of a Movie. It actualy has well over 4 hours of cinematic footage. I think it's perfect in it's medium.

My pick though would be Parasite Eve. Madona's production company bought the option for that several years back and nothing has been said really since. That would malke a good movie.

Didn't the movie rights get sold recently? I'm not sure, but I think they're working on a movie already.

MGS, in particular MGS2, is a movie already. But I think a new plot based on the games would work quite well.

Freespace 1+2 would, if done well, be an awesome movie too... and also if they did do it (which they won't, i know) we might get a sequel  :D(Freespace 3 isn't going to be made, for those of you who don't know what im talking about)

I vote for no more game based movies.  They're always such heaps of crap.  It'll be a better world with no more Double Dragons or Street Fighters.

The closest on that list is MGS, but as mazaite said, it's already a  good movie. I don't want some Hollywood director to "improve" the story or to see Aston Kucher playing Solid Snake.   :puke:

In all seriousness folks, I heard rumors of a pac man movie coming out in japan a while back.

I dont know about game based movies, but I think there have been great movie based games. Anyone play LOTR: the two towers? Awesome game.

My favorite game based movie is Resident Evil, I'm looking forward to the sequel.

I'd like to see a film based on Unreal (the first single player game). The mixture of science fiction and ancient civilizations plus the desperation of being cast away on an alien planet is really cool.
Half-Life would also be nice especially if it is done in the fashion of the first few levels.
Or Indiana Jones and the fate of Atlantis...

No Duke Nukem? A movie based on him would kick ass BOOM "Take that pig!" "Hey I know this classy motel where you can put quarters into the bed.."

Barring that BLATANT exception I went for GTA because coincidentally I was talking about such a movie just the other day.

Yeah... but that's a game based on a film. (Based on a book) There are few good movies that come from games... Unfortunatly

That's not entirly true what about Street Fighter 2 the movie (the animated one not the one with Van Damme that one sucked). I think that's the best game to movie I can think of.
I can't think of a game that would work well in the movie medium. Games like MGS work well in the game world but might not work as well in the cimema.

How do you do a movie with 3 different endings (4 if you want to get technical)??

I hope the Alien vs. Predator movie will be good, that's based on a game which was, in turn, based on movies.

Diablo II. Fantasy fighters and mages running around fighting the Three Prime Evils and their minions in a fictional world. How can you fail?

Failing that, something from the Heroes Of Might & Magic series.

failing that, pong would be a bearable alternative.

seriously though, how about simon the sorcerer? or the old lucasarts adventures like maniac mansion or day of the tentacle? those would make awesome movies, if done right.

I wouldn't like the idea of a "Maniac Mansion" movie but a remake of it on the next-generation consoles, the PC, and Mac wouldn't be bad. Maniac Mansion would lose what made the first game great if it were a movie: it's interactivity. Who wouldn't love microwaving a hamster in 3D? I doubt that'll happen though. LucasArts is pretty much a whore for Star Wars now. They even cancelled production on the Full Throttle remake which looked frickin' beautiful.
