This thread'll probably die too. You should just stop making them and just post for a while. Then you'll get the idea of whats acceptable and whats not.

I'm really more a gamera man myself.

Anyway I think Godzulla is cool (I always loved big monsters when I was a kid)

The last Godzilla movie was pretty bad but I enjoyed it anyway because "there was a big monster in it"... I was expecting a very bad movie anyway.

(But I loved the part where the french guy complains about american coffee.)

How could you like the American Godzilla?  I mean sure it looked cool, had better effects, and starred Jean Reno, but that doesn't excuse the horrible acting, pathetic plotlines, and worthless characters.  The last real Godzilla movie (Godzilla 2000) was awesome.  It had the best special effect of the entire series and the venerable "man-in-a-rubber-suit" feel.  Pair that with some hilarious translations like "quit yer bitchin!" and "Gott in Himmel!" and a group of moderately interesting characters (not including that little girl...even when their voices have been dubbed, kids manage to stink up entire movies).

Frankly, even if you're not interested in the movie itself, the Godzilla series is one of the best for heckling.  Whether it's the failure to fully grasp the English language or some of the more hilarious antics of Godzilla himself, there are hundreds of unwritten, tounge-in-cheek jokes in every movie.

I hate the american Godzilla not because it's american but because they changed him too much. Gamera's cool too.

I love Godzilla. I used to watch all the movies over and over when i was a kid. I saw GodZilla 2000 and eventually bought it, and it was another great movie in the series. I think my favorite one had to be "Destroy all Monsters" where all the monsters are controlled by aliens and go on rampages.

Such classic monster movies...

I liked all of the Godzilla movies, especially vs. the smog monster. DrThunder is right, they are almost as funny as they are good. I never get tired of watching Gamera shoot fire out of all of his shell-holes and wonder where the air intake is. This stuff is just too funny. Ithink the MST3K crew has done one or two of these to death, too bad they never got a crack at the Matthew Broderick version. It would have been fun.

My 3 year old niece is hooked on Godzilla, I am just waiting for her mother to get that first letter from school... I live near an army base and one day the artillery was practicing...she was petrified. "'Zilla coming!!!" That poor kid.

Big fan of Godzilla. I own quite a few of his movies including the most recent one. The one that came out in 2000, I think. Personally I like Mechagodzilla and the three-headed thing. I always forget what that is called.

Um, the last Godzilla movie, if it wasn't pointed out already, was Godzilla 2000.

EDIT: The original Japanese version of the original godzilla movie, Raymond Burr-less, undubbed, and  is making its run in small theaters around the USA.  http://www.rialtopictures.com/godzilla.html  Check the dates and your city on this list. it's gotten insane reviews, and apparently is much different from the movie with Raymond Burr cut into it.

It's apparently more foreboding and carries a much more darker tone than the Raymond Burr version we got back then.

Not true. As _I_ pointed out already, there have been several G-films made since G2K.

And Klumsy Kitty, a fan-made MSTing of the American Godzilla can be found at http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Towers/1139/doomsday1.txt

My Godzilla thread was resurrected?

Anyway, I'm really stoked about Godzilla Final Wars. And having seen the origional Japanese version of Gojira, I can say that it is infinately better than the dubbed RB version. I also recommend the japanese version of Gojira (84.)

And Tom123, it's King Ghidorah

Godzilla Final Wars is the newest Godzilla movie and according to Toho, the last Godzilla movie for at least a decade. At least 15 monsters will be featured.

Isn't Godzilla a big Lizard thingy walking across a big city crushing roads and cars and frightens the people on the streets? Isn't that wot King Kong is except he is an ape? If I am not mistaken, King Kong is made b4 the first Godzilla movie rite?

I have seen this movie but the Japanese version with subtitles. The one I saw is an old movie, when I was a kid. I find the monster fake and did not find the story interesting. Sorry, no offence just not a big fan of it.

Godzilla is more than just a "big lizard thingy" and is no "King Kong copycat".The origional movie had a dark anit-nuclear/anti-war theme, as far as I know King Kong never had any serious messages, King Kong is just a typical monster movie(and not a very interesting one IMHO). Godzilla exists because of mankind's arrogance with nuclear weapons and is mankind's punishment for that arrogance.

Honestly I think people only remember Godzilla for his bad movies and tend to overlook his good movies.

When the original Godzilla movie was made, they tried to capitalize on King Kong  by giving Godzilla an ape-like face. Even the term Gojira is a corrupted version of the word gorilla.
Kong is 50 feet tall.
Godzilla is 500 feet tall.

The recent Americaized Godzilla flick isn't the best movie to ever come out, but I personally didn't hate it. I liked the fact that he was much more lizard like.
The first Godzilla movie was intended to be, and kinda is, a bit scary.
Subsequent Godzilla movies went more for the "for the kids" approach and got semi comical.
They had that same charm that Gerry Anderson's Supermarionation shows have. Speaking of which.... I'm off  now find out about Anderson's new CGI Captain Scarlett project....
