How could you like the American Godzilla? I mean sure it looked cool, had better effects, and starred Jean Reno, but that doesn't excuse the horrible acting, pathetic plotlines, and worthless characters. The last real Godzilla movie (Godzilla 2000) was awesome. It had the best special effect of the entire series and the venerable "man-in-a-rubber-suit" feel. Pair that with some hilarious translations like "quit yer bitchin!" and "Gott in Himmel!" and a group of moderately interesting characters (not including that little girl...even when their voices have been dubbed, kids manage to stink up entire movies).
Frankly, even if you're not interested in the movie itself, the Godzilla series is one of the best for heckling. Whether it's the failure to fully grasp the English language or some of the more hilarious antics of Godzilla himself, there are hundreds of unwritten, tounge-in-cheek jokes in every movie.

I love Godzilla. I used to watch all the movies over and over when i was a kid. I saw GodZilla 2000 and eventually bought it, and it was another great movie in the series. I think my favorite one had to be "Destroy all Monsters" where all the monsters are controlled by aliens and go on rampages.
Such classic monster movies...

Um, the last Godzilla movie, if it wasn't pointed out already, was Godzilla 2000. EDIT: The original Japanese version of the original godzilla movie, Raymond Burr-less, undubbed, and is making its run in small theaters around the USA. http://www.rialtopictures.com/godzilla.html Check the dates and your city on this list. it's gotten insane reviews, and apparently is much different from the movie with Raymond Burr cut into it. ----------------------- Please edit your sig to 120 pixel height max. It's apparently more foreboding and carries a much more darker tone than the Raymond Burr version we got back then.

It was the worst movie Mathew Brodrick ever did. But at least it had Jean Reno

How can you say that? Have you ever even seen a Godzilla movie? It's nothing like King Kong.

Originally posted by Pikka Bird: His name isn't really Godzilla. It's Gojira. Godzilla is probably just a "cool" name meant for the mass-market westerners. When the original Godzilla movie was made, they tried to capitalize on King Kong by giving Godzilla an ape-like face. Even the term Gojira is a corrupted version of the word gorilla. Kong is 50 feet tall. Godzilla is 500 feet tall. The recent Americaized Godzilla flick isn't the best movie to ever come out, but I personally didn't hate it. I liked the fact that he was much more lizard like. The first Godzilla movie was intended to be, and kinda is, a bit scary. Subsequent Godzilla movies went more for the "for the kids" approach and got semi comical. They had that same charm that Gerry Anderson's Supermarionation shows have. Speaking of which.... I'm off now find out about Anderson's new CGI Captain Scarlett project....
