I was wondering when that was gonna come out. I'm not gonna buy it though. I'm waiting for Seasons 6, 7 and 8, I wish they'd hurry up!

Scruffy: [to aslate] Second.
Although they're not as good the Futurama DVDs, I still will buy these sets, even though they come out soooooo sloooowwwllly. There was 11 months between 1 and 2, and now a bit more than a whole year between 2 and 3. And meanwhile, the first 2 Futurama sets have been released in the US within 5 months.

Probably because the Simpsons is still in production and Futurama isn't, so the Simpsons guys don't have as much time on their hands.

Isn't it Fox Home Entertainment that makes the actual DVD sets though?

Yeah, but the Simpsons crew has to come up with the deleted scenes, commentary tracks, menu animation, etc.

Yeah, BNL cleared up what I meant. And also, I'm gonna collect all the sets, but not those crappy holiday-themed DVDs that have only 4 eps. They only released them because people are getting tired of waiting for the season sets.

One could argue, those themed DVD's are also a factor in the Season sets delay.

I think I'm going to stop buying the sets after season 10 or season 11.

I haven't bought any of the Simpsons DVDs yet, but I do plan to someday. I simply don't have the money to shell out $40 for each of them. I will probably buy a few of the sets from the middle seasons, then buy the rest when I have the cash, but I will probably stop buying them after season 10-ish.

Ahh Season three. Or as I like to call it "When the Simpsons started getting good." This is the first Season I intend to buy. The first to were to "Family-ish". And it's the season with "The Land Of Chocolate". And I'll probably stop around Season 8. But for that I'm going to need to go to Ikea again for another DVD shelf. Damnation.

Is it wrong for me to totally not care about the Simpsons anymore? I mean, yeah, I'd like to have S3 on DVD, but part of me doesn't care that much about it. I'm not even fractionally hyped up about it as I was to Futurama.

If it's wrong, then I'm wrong too. It's part of the effect of the newer episodes. It's probably going to be one of those releases which I notice while shopping and buy, rather than one of those where I pre-order it and wait slavishly at the door.

With the DVD specific features, the Simpsons ones just aren't comparable to the Futurama ones. Sure, you get commentary tracks, but unlike Futurama you don't get any voice actors and since the team that made these episodes has long since split up, you don't get that sense of friendship between them that you do with the Futurama staffers.

It's not wrong to totally not care about the Simpsons anymore.  I just own the season 2 set, and the only reason I bought it was that I had a gift card for Blockbuster for $15 off.  The Futurama sets have a ton more cooler extras.  You get more out of your money when buying Futurama on DVD.

actually i heard that on this one, that there are going to some voice actors on some of the episodes, but not on every one, unlike the futurama ones.

The "themed" individual dvds don't have anything to do with the delays of the season sets (I still hate them though, as I think they're cheap and an insult to the fans).  Why they're being delayed so much though, I'm not sure.  Sometimes the commentaries have been given as an excuse, even by people like Al Jean and Matt Groening, since many of the people on them have to be specifically brought in and the others are busy working on the show.  But I KNOW that's not the reason for the season two delays (those commentaries were finished before season one came out), and season three is also iffy (those were recorded last winter).  My personal guess is syndication; Fox makes so much money daily on syndication of these episodes, they probably feel a little threatened by their own success of these dvds.  In other words, if too many people buy them and stop watching the reruns, they make a lot less money in the long run.

Anyways, I think the quality of the Futurama and Simpsons dvds are roughly even.  Futurama probably pulls in the lead (and admittingly, the lack of deleted Simpsons scenes is nearly unacceptable, though its possible some may have been lost given the age of the episodes).  But ultimately, they're about even.  I actually like the Simpsons commentaries better too, since Futurama Volume two in particular is rarely informative in terms of commentary (they're often hilarious to listen to, but they rarely even talk about the episodes it seems).  I also disagree about them not being friends...in the Simpsons commentaries they seem to be very buddy buddy and make jokes with each other in much the same fashion.  In fact, many of the people on the commentaries are still involved with the show, and those that aren't worked on it long enough to forge friendships.

I'm not so hyped up about The Simpsons either. I'll always have good memories of the decent seasons, and I love the show. But I'm not really looking foward to it's releases on DVD that much. It's more of "Ah, that's nice" when they come out, and they come out when they come out.

I bought the Halloween DVD, too bad its only 4 of them.

The only Simpsons set I would be interested in would be a set with every halloween ep on it, as these days these are the only enjoyabe eps left

Now that would be an awesome idea, and I'd get that too. Also, I got that comp of 4 Halloween eps, it's neat. I don't really like buying the comps though because I know they're rip-offs. I would really love to get a comp with 'Trilogy of Error' on it though, as it's one of my very fave eps, and I don't want to waste my money on a Season 12 set just to get it.

The Halloween DVD will come to R1 this fall.
I think, when all the seasons come out, (When the show ends) there will be a huge box saying:
THE SIMPSONS: EVERYTHING AND A CLIP SHOW
SEASONS 1-??

Wow I can't believe it's taken that long to come to R1. It came out fittingly around Halloween last year on R2. But of all The Simpsons comps, I think it's the best, and well worth it  :)

Uh....there's only four episodes on it, and one is "Treehouse of Horror XII", which was pretty mediocre (and had the HORRIBLE segment with the Leprechaun or something).  And its like 15 bucks.  That's half an entire season, for only four episodes, and one of them isn't even worth owning.

The world loves ripping people off, but I think as far as the comps go, it's pretty good value and tidy's us over until more of the seasons come out. As for 'THoH XII', although not as good as the others, apart from the Leprechaun stuff, I liked it.

For the record I think THOH XII was okay...but unfortunately "okay" was about as good as you could get during the Scully era (the first Scully episode, "The Cartridge Family", is the only one that wasn't flawed in some way).  I just don't think its worth BUYING.  There are lots of great television programs I've seen, but that I wouldn't buy.  Bottom line is that for half the price of the first season set (all the episodes in that season are better then THOH XII, even "Homer's Odyssey" ), or even half the price of the 22 episode season two set (again, all of them are better), that comp is one lousy stinkin' rip off.

Hell, they didn't even pick the best ones other then that.  THOH V is great, but the others, other then maybe THOH III, were pretty much average at best.

I love the halloween episodes, but a special DVD, pfft I'm not giving my money to a machine...  Why not just buy the season sets, then you get all the THoH episodes in order...
