Wouldn't it make more sense to just release the show in complete seasons, or do they not do that for "children's" shows?

I don't know why they do that, but that's how all of CN's kid shows appear to be - the "Ed, Ed, N' Eddy' DVD set that's coming out around the same time also is a season 1 vol disc. It's probably two things: 1)keeps cost down; 2)makes more money for the network by selling two sets per season instead of one.

Well, at least they're selling this one in an amaray case instead of a crappy snapper like the first one.

As for "Birthmark", it'll be interesting to see how Slade managed to comeback after suffering a small case of "fallingintolavaitis". And in hopes that Raven will kick his ass, And that torn up costume. Wow!    :flirt:

I love Raven centric episodes....and Raven.

How do you think that the Titans will react to Slade's return?

Maybe it would go something like this:

Robin: "Slade!  But how?  You're..."

Slade: "Dead?  That's exactly what I wanted you to believe.  Fooling you has always been child's play.  You were all so willing to let yourselves be fooled by my apprentice, Terra..."

Beast Boy morphs into a Tyrannosaurus rex and bites Slade in half.  The other Titans look on in stunned silence, except for Cyborg, who just shakes his head sadly.

Cyborg: "He shouldn't have brought that up."

Okay, so that probably won't happen, but if Beast Boy doesn't have at least some sort of reaction to Slade's return, I'll be disappointed.

About the DVDs, it's not like I would buy them anyway (strokes hi-speed internet connection), but still, they could at least put some real extras on the disc to make it worth the while. A "Hi Hi PuffyAmyYumi" commercial isn't what I had in mind.

the show's target audience is 8-11 year olds, evan. They're not gonna really care about extra features...though I'm still miffed at the lack of commentary...

I think there's a big enough market (teenagers, comic geeks, people like us) to warrant commentaries or featurettes.  But, then again, I'm sure CN will re-release this show on enough DVDs in order to milk the cash cow.

Also after hearing what slip said, I prolly need to download this episode (no I don't stroke my 56k modem  :p), work has been cutting into my Titan's schedule.  :(

I knew that this was going to be a good one, so I made sure that I was home by eight o'clock last night.  I was not disappointed.  I would have posted something right after after watching it, but I wanted to wait and let RavenStar post his reactions first.

Stuff and junk:

I liked seeing Dr. Light being lame and pathetic again (just like in the comics); and he's still terrified of Raven.  Nice reference to "Fear Itself" there.

We see Slade breaking free from what looks like hardened lava.  I suppose this explains why we havent seen him since the end of season two: he's been trapped inside solid rock for over a year.

I really liked the way that this episode focused on Raven's friendship with Robin.  Previous episodes have focused on her friendships with Beast Boy, Cyborg, and Starfire, but this episode seems to firmly establish that Robin is the Titan to whom Raven is closest.

Beast Boy mentioned Terra!  (I think that this is the first time that Terra has been mentioned on the show since season two.)  It would have been nice to have seen more of Beast Boy's anger toward Slade over what he did to Terra, but that would have taken focus away from Raven, and this is really her episode.

Raven can stop time, apparently.  Once again we see that the full extent of Raven's powers remains hidden and the things that we've seen her do are just the tip of the iceberg.  (Incedentally, the way that the time stop was portrayed, with the birds frozen in midair and everything taking on a bluish cast, reminded me of a similar scene from The Books of Magic.  I wonder if that was intentional.)

Robin and Raven seek refuge from Slade in a church.  I thought that this was a really nice touch; the church being a perfect contrast to the demonic heritage from which Raven is trying to escape.  (I also noticed that, despite the fact that the building was obviously a church, we didn't actually see any crosses or other overt symbols of religion.  Political correctness rears its ugly head again.)

At the end, when Slade pushed Raven off of a building I wondered how she was going to survive the fall.  She seemed to be too out of it to use her own powers to save herself, and everyone else was frozen.  Then, of course, Robin swings across and catches her.  Very heroic.

They seem to be building toward the Trigon story arc this season, and apparently Slade is serving Trigon.  It should be interesting to see how this storyline pans out.

Dammit! I missed "Birthmark"(Thank you very much Aviator, cool movie BTW.)

But I did see "The Quest" earlier in the morning, so I'll talk about that.

The episode was pretty good. But the funny thing was, I didn't really care about what Robin was doing. I kept waiting for the scenes with the other Titans. Everytime another scene with the other Titans came on, the wait was totally worth it. Beast Boy wearing the Robin suit was funny, but Starfire wearing it was funnier(and kinda    :flirt:  ) Then when Cyborg wore the suit, it was halarious. Then I was thinking "I wonder what will happen when Raven shows up?", turns out, she ends up wearing the outfit too.     :laff:  and     :flirt: at the same time. Oh yeah, Robin's journey was okay. I was never a big fan of the Robin episodes (Except the one where he was halucinating that Salade was back, and "Date with Destiny", although that was cool because of Starfire's dress and her funny expressions of jelousy), so this part of the episode was so-so for me. That little twist towards the end, I saw coming a mile away.

Positives-
-Side story with the Robin outfits was halarous.
-The end of said Side Story
-Silkey!

Negatives
-Robin's story wasn't interesting
-Predictable twist
-Robin: The Impatient Jerk Wonder

Rating: 7/10

I know.  I meant that this episode seemed to be the beginning of that storyline.  Sorry if I didn't make that clear.

Also, I saw "The Quest" yesterday, and I second all of spacepilot3000's opinions about the side story with the other Titans dressing up as Robin.  Funny stuff.

It's weird.  For season 3, the stand-alone episodes rocked the house, but the overarching story with Cyborg and Brother Blood seemed lacking. This season, the stand-alones haven't been as strong, but the Raven and Trigon arch is awesome. "The Quest" was so-so, and "Cyborg the Barbarian" seems iffy.

That's probably because Brother Blood is kinda lame, whereas Trigon the Terrible is the whole reason that the Teen Titans were formed to begin with.

And what's this about "The Quest" being so-so?  You must have seen a different episode by that title than I did, 'cause the one that I saw rocked.

Well, the suspense was killed right off because everyone should have known that the old lady was the master quickly. As for the three guardians, I dunno, it just seemed unoriginal that Robin had to fight all three of them. I know I'm a bit older than the target audience, but I've seen that "the enemy doesn't use sight, so I have to ignore my sight" technique so often. I did like the rest of the Titans dressed as Robins, though.

On a news note kinda, there is much speculation that "Cyborg The Barbarian" will turn out to be a partial "Army of Darkness" rip - and judging that Cyborg uses an arm chainsaw in "Haunted," that doesn't seem so un-plausible...

Were we not supposed to know?  I thought that it was supposed to be obvious to us, even though Robin didn't figure it out until the very end; dramatic irony and all that.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of complaints about this episode being full of clichés, but I prefer to think of them as homages.  Robin's quest was like something out of one of those old martial arts films, or the TV series, Kung Fu.  Complaining that it was unoriginal is kinda missing the point, I think.

I thought that the ending was pretty clever.

It's kind of a shame, though; Cyborg finally gets a love interest who isn't a criminal or a stereotypical sassy black chick, and she's stuck 5000 years in the past.

I don't mind a few weeks of repeats.  There are still some episodes from last season that I haven't seen.

Her name was Sarasim - an homage to Cy's girlfriend from the comics, Sarah Simms...
David, you dissapoint me. You should have gotten that...

And I mind a few weeks of repeats. We just got through with a similar one from like November to January, and it completely ruins the pacing of the season, and showing repeats for a whole 2 MONTHS after showing 4 new episodes is ridiculous...CN's scheduling department is worse than whoever scheduled "Farscape..."

In my defense, it's been a couple of decades since I read the comics, and I was rather young at the time.  Sorry if I don't remember the names of all of the minor characters.

If it wasn't for disappointments, I wouldn't have any appointments.

But, anyway, I like Beast Boy's comedic episodes. The Vespa callback is a really nice touch, and I love how the unmotivated B.B. has to take responsibility for something.

Hey, no thanks.  If it's an Aqua Teen reference, I'm probably happier not understanding.  I've already seen more than I wanted to of that show.

I doubt that any episodes of Teen Titans will contain intentional references to any Williams Street shows.

ARGH! Indeed.

Same thing happened with Vol. 1. Thought it would be amaray, ended up being a snapper.

Wow 151 minutes of Teen Titans goodness. I still need to find Vol. 1. It became difficult to find after the first week on shelves. And, if the back cover is correct, it looks like they have added the "Lost" episode that was shown on the computer. Thank god.

I saw that postopia commercial and I thought "Not all people have powerful computers you know!".

My 2 cents.

Can't wait.
