Terminator 2
Aliens

And also, I know a lot of people preferred Toy Story 2 to the original. But although they're both very similar in quality, I still prefer the first Toy Story  :)

I feel like I'm in a bizarro world here. Maybe I've spent too much time with other Star Wars nerds--since when do people think Return of the Jedi is better than Star Wars/Empire Strikes Back?

And Temple of Doom better than Raiders? You gotta be kidding me. Don't even get me started on Back to the Future III being better than parts one and two.

Toilet off Doom sucked compaired to Raiders of the Lost Ark, and The Empire Strikes Back is the best Star Wars film

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan was better than the first film.

Episodes IV, V and VI are way much better than I & II.  :p

Most sequels suck, because they're nothing but blown up remakes...

I have to say i prefer fellowship to towers because i felt that towers had some really badly thought out scenes which annoyed me. I still absolutely love the film just some of it felt tacky.

Let me think here...
Sequels that were as good as or better than their predecessors:
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (compared to Raiders of the Lost Ark, not Temple of Doom)
Die Hard: With a Vengeance (compared to Die Hard, not Die Hard 2)
Terminator 2 even though the first one had Bill Pullman in his finest role.
Mission: Impossible 2
U.S. Marshalls

Please note that I didn't consider any films from series longer than three. Any more than three and they cease being sequels and start looking like installments.

I found Mission Impossible 2 to be one of the worst films i have ever seen, probably because i live in Australia and to understand why i hate it so much you would have to live in Australia yourself. So i found the first one much better then the second.

What state of mind were you in when you saw the original Ring. Any sequels or remakes are laughable compared to the original.

I really thought Ringu 2 was extremely well done, it was'nt just a rehash of the first Ring. They thought up a brilliantly original plot and was just as scary as the first.

As for the remake....... I admit i'm a sucker for the lead actress who use to go to my high school.

Ringu 2 was very good, but do you really believe it was better than the first...

Yeah, Naomi Watts is an excellent actress. Did anyone see her in Mulholland Dr.?

I personally thought the Ring remake was much better than the Japanese film. My only complaint was that scene with Samara at the end was less suspenseful than the claustrophobic and creepy scene in the Japanese film.

Empire Strikes Back is without question the best SW sequel and best in the series.

The second and third BTTF films if counted as one movie are much better than the original.

Aliens
Toy Story 2

Could be why one has to live close to Detroit to have a pathalogical hatred of 8 Mile.

Yep, that's true.

It just dawned on me, Dawn of the Dead is another sequel that is better than it's predesscesor.

I read somewhere that if all the current movie releases stay on schedule 2003 is year of the sequel, with the most number of sequels being played in cinemas this year.

Oscar Winning sequel, The Godfather Part II - and The Empire Strikes Back is far superior to A New Hope.  Raiders is the best Indiana Jones movie, by far.

All the others mentioned are pale imitations of the first, and the jury's out on The Matrix until after I see Revolutions.

What about Bond?  19 sequels?

Matrix Reloaded is a very good sequel so far.

Wow I own hardly any sequals.
Let's see sequals that were superior to the first.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of secrets
Tenchi Forever
X-men 2
Batman Returns

Now does Evil Dead 2 actually count as a a sequal since it is an extended rehash of the first movie.

What the hell is a sequal?

Anyway, I vote for The Great Escape II: The Untold Story.

I just want to add The Matrix Reloaded to my list, I can't believe I forgot it! I think that it is equal ( or perhaps slightly, slightly better). Definetly not worse, all the people that didn't like , what planet are you on!? Do you just pretend not to like it to get attention!?

Ok, sorry I guess that some people don't like it, but I just find it puzzling. As a huge fan of The Original Matrix I don't see what it delivers that Reloaded doesn't. I really consider it a truely great sequel, I loved it (like most people).

Because it's boring? I wouldn't waste my money on it but that's what I've heard from quite a few people.
