Could someone please tell me the exact meaning of 'jumping the shark' as regard to TV shows?  From what I gathered it's something to do with an episode of 'Happy Days', but I can't remember exactly what.

I refers to an episode where the Fonz jumped over a shark tank on his motor cycle. The general consensus is that after that episode the show got consistently worse. "Jumping the Shark" refers the point in a series' life after which it starts on a downwards spiral from which it cannot recover.

Thanks.  I'll add it to my 'barely useful information' folder   smile

And that's the end of that chapter.
