I think the problem will be to come up with a good story which one could turn into movie which would run for at least 80 or 90 minutes.

To me, the late Lorenzo Music will always be the voice of Garfield.  That said, I think that Bill Murray is an excellent choice for the role.

Okay, I can kind of see that one, I guess.

What the hell?  I'm sorry, but no.  That makes about as much sense as Denise Richards playing a nuclear scientist.
What's that?  She did?

The film looks like it could be good, but I doubt it'll be a classic. Odie gets caught by a dognapper? Pretty unoriginal...

Oy vey, I can't see how they can make a live-action dog like Odie. I can't see how Jennifer Love Hewitt can pass as Liz. I wonder if they'll remember that Jon works as a cartoonist, which was mentioned in the first strip ever, and then never again.

I'll go out on a big limb here and say the Garfield comic strip initially jumped the shark when Garfield started walking on two feet (which was around '82 I think, when they came out with the first tv special).  The earliest strips are great, a single man and his often difficult cat.  After he started walking it became nothing more then cartoony gags and lost all that original spirit.  It was still funny for a while afterwards but is worth absolutely nothing now.

In any case, I'm boycotting that movie.  I don't need them fucking up another great childhood memory.  They already ruined "The Cat and the Hat" for me forever, so I'm never viewing another live action movie of a cartoon ever again.

i dont mind that garfield is realistic. i didnt like it at first, but now, its kinda cool. actually jon one said in around '85 in a comic it went:
jon: garfield, i'm going to a cartoonists convention ad the motel i'm staying in doesn't allow pets
garfield: sorry odie, you can't go!
jon: uh, garfield, you ARE a pet
garfield:rats i forgot

My favourite goes like:

Garfield: Meow meow!
Odie: Bark bark bark!
Both: (walking off together) Hee hee hee!
Jon: (confused and annoyed) Speak English!

It's a humor site, Ooy.  Maddox probably doesn't really hate Garfield.  It's just meant to be funny.  No big deal.

An official Garfield site, eh?  Good, now I know who to contact to ask why the Halloween and Christmas specials aren't out on DVD.  The Halloween special is sweet. It aggravates me that it's not out on DVD yet when it seems every other holiday special is.

Garfield is awesome, I read it everyday.  My favorite lines from the comic are:

Jon: GARFIELD, YOUR'RE SITTING IN MY SCRAMBLED EGGS!!!!!
Garfield: They're warm.

Jon also had an artist's easel sitting around the house a few times, but it didn't say specifically that he was a cartoonist. Those were mostly in the early years, that is.

 http://maddox.xmission.com/c.cgi?u=garfield_sucks

Comics I like include Zits, Close to Home, Calvin and Hobbes, Shoe, Blondie, Non Sequitur, the Buckets(even though it's losing its appeal as of late), and Dilbert.

I heard praise for Get Fuzzy and I'd like to say that is THE most awful comic ever. I've never seen Wizard of Id and I've only seen B.C. a couple times in out of town newspapers, but I agree with Hagar the Horrible. That's just awful.

I used to like the Garfield comic strip when I was 8. The animated series was decent, if I remember it right, and Garfield's 9 Lives was great. I used to own it on VHS. It's not the typical Garfield style at all.

I was going to post the maddox article, but someone beat me to it by a month. That sums up my current attitude toward Garfield pretty well. The movie looks like it'll be horrible, and I thought the Cat in the Hat looked bad. This is just ridiculous.

Good to see another Maddox fan though. I was wearing my "For every animal you don't eat..." shirt yesterday.
