Computer generated? Bah--not Garfield! Unless Pixar does it. Then I will endorse it.

I used to love the old garfield cartoon! Too bad work and college prevents me from scouring nickelodeon at all hours of the day to see if it's on  :(

Nickelodeon doesn't show good old-school cartoons anymore. Bah.

Garfield's alright, until you realize that eventually, all of the strips reuse the same jokes. He's fat and lazy and likes lasagna, okay, we get it! To be going over the same ground for 25 years...sheesh. It's a surprise he hasn't died of over-exposure.

Comics* that I do like, however, "The Far Side" "Calvin and Hobbes" "The Boondocks" and "Bloom County." Notice how most of them are discontinued.

*-not counting political comics.

"Get Fuzzy" is a lot like Garfield -- except it's actually funny and not stupid.

My dog is Satchel.

Personal fav comic strips: Get Fuzzy, Foxtrot, Zits, Far Side, Calvin & Hobbes. I read 'em all though.

PS - Cathy and Ziggy must die! Along with Hagar the Horrible, the Wizard of Id, Hi & Lois, and Blondie.

I love FOXTROT!!!!! Foxtrot is $&#^@ing awesome. I had a whole foxtrot book.

I also used to like Shoe a lot.

B.C. is pretty dern retarded too.

The Born Loser makes me laugh sometimes. . .

Calvin and Hobbes, Garfield and The Far Side are my top 3 comic strips at the moment. I reckon there was a 'golden age' of Garfield. I haven't quite worked out when it was, but I think it was around the 10th to 30th books. That's not to say there aren't some great strips in the later collections, but it's not so consistent.

Garfield is ok, it can be good at points but it doesn't compare to the Farside and Calvin and Hobbes. Of the stips still in circulation I like Dilbert, Fox Trot and Get Fuzzy. Online strips I like are Sluggy and PvP.

If I remember correctly Garfield would be ok and once every week or two there would be a really funny strip.

Least favorite strip has to be BC, I find it funny that out of all the strips that become religious and creationist it has to be that one. It is called BC for crying out loud!

The movie is going to be like the Scooby Do movie, in that the cast is going to be human with the CGI animals... might work might not.

Garfield is a good comic. You'll get a laffer once in a while, and the majority is okay. Sure, it's repetitive, but after 25 years what strip wouldn't be repetitive? I haven't read an of the books lately, but I usually read it every day in the news paper.

The cartoons didn't thrill me though.

Foxtrot is the shizz, but I hate Get Fuzzy. Garfield is a good comic strip too, but I especially liked the cartoon show. However it has aged considerably. I get my kicks with Foxtrot, Calvin & Hobbes, and occassionaly, Robotman. But they don't put C&H in the newspapers anymore. Other kids thought I was 'retarded' because I liked Garfield. They were more into the action comics kind of stuff.

That was US Acres. Orson was the pig.

U.S. Acres was also a comic strip by Jim Davis, wasn't it? I used to have a book reprinting some of the comics. It was mostly gags that got recycled into the show, but I liked it at the time.

I like Garfield, but there's no way in hell this movie will be any good.

The thing that worries me most is not that they're making a movie out of it, but they're supposedly doing a plot that's already been done in a cartoon movie version. The basic plot is that Odie gets caught by the dog catcher and Garfield feeling responsible goes to bust him out. I recognize this in a cartoon movie/special. So they're making a live action/CGI movie that reuses an old plot? THAT's scary.

Seeing as theres no conversation string, I was obviously referring to the title, which I assumed meant this thread is a near poll. I dislike garfield on the grounds that it is not funny. Calm down big guy.

I used to really like the cartoons as much as the comics when I was younger, and they still provide a laugh - however that farmyard one really annoyed me!

A movie would be good - as long as it was done in the same cartoon style, and surely if they came up with a more original concept.
The saddest thing for me is that the actor that I've associated Garfield's voice to be - Lorenzo Music - died of cancer a coupla years ago, so I'd have difficulties accepting any other kind of voice.

I'm afraid that you're right.

CGI creatures, especially if they are based on real-life animals, never look good compared to real actors...

Garfield's been creatively dead for a long time. Jim Davis hasn't actually written or drawn the strip for ages. It's mass-produced by his syndicate.

Garfield's cool, the comics make me smile most of the time.

I also love Foxtrot, Pearls Before Swine (or whatever), Ziggy (he's so cute), and Family Circus.
