Couldn't find a relevent thread but here is a bit of scary anime news
from http://www.darkhorizons.com

Neon Genesis Evangelion: It was bound to happen, but even I was surprised by the speed. ADV Films has confirmed that they're teaming with game studio Gainax Network System and "Lord of the Rings" FX shop WETA to produce a live-action feature-film based on the Japanese anime TV series. One of the artform's biggest success stories, the 26-episode NGE saga told the story of the reluctant young pilot heroes who were in charge of mankind's fight against a series of massive monster 'Angels' by use of giant robots called Evangelions (resulting pretty much every week in Godzilla-esque fights between two skyscraper sized beings in an urban metropolis). The show was filled with biblical references, X-Files conspiracies, a somewhat unique sense of humour, and philosophy at a level that makes Matrix Reloaded look pre-schooler in comparison - indeed the last few episodes of the show became so abstract and confusing a TV movie was released a few years later which capped off the storyline in a way that was still difficult to understand but at least made sense. Even though the project is in early stages of development, its being moved forward rather quickly it seems. Thanks to 'Ali', 'Travis', 'Olivier', 'FanHalen'.

I can not see this working at all... It just can't...

You think this is bad? They're also making a live-action DBZ movie. Its budget is gonna be in the 200 million range, and half of that is hairspray.

I've heard rumors of a live-action Akira movie.  Supposedly it's being produced by Jon Peters of Superman infamy.

For some reason I can see a live action DBZ movie more then a NGE movie... Giant robots mixed with angsty teenagers and religious refrances. Anno did a great job balancing them in the series but I can not see it in a live action movie

DBZ could be fun if they ignore the main plot of the series and focus on one battle or make up a villian for the film. Goku and co are not multilayered complex characters.

They're not making one but FOUR live-action DBZ movies, all based on several sagas. I don't think it will be a fun ride. Watching Frieza and Cell as rubber costumes is not compelling, or if they used CGI for it, it probably won't be of good quality.

Bets on this is going to destroy Anime's pure image and replace it with this.

Whatever Anime's pure image was, anyway.

Wow I jsut can't wait this is going to be cool oh no wait the other thing.... that's right dumb.
Why can't they just leave well enough alone. I mean it was animated for a reason, you can so things in animation that are practically imposible in real life.
The only anie I could really see working as a live action is Cowboy Bebop but I wouold still be skeptical.
Mind you they did make a stage show of SailorMoon in Japan....crazy

Cowboy Bebop would be great as a live-action movie.

I agree. Would Spike be Asian or White in the Movie?

Also, I saw the preview of one of the Animatrix things on MTV, And I wish Speli was watching it too. He missed the shot of an Agent, Complete with the cheek-bones.
