I think I'll buy the set.  Season 3 is when The Simpsons started getting really good, though the next few seasons were better.

I think I'll probably buy it. Seasons 3 through 8 were the golden years of the show. However, all those seasons are going to be expensive.

I think I'll quit at season seven.  Season eight had some good episodes, but it also had some that I still rank among the worst ever.  It's sad that as a whole, The Simpsons has been more lousy than good.

Anyway, this set is supposed to have commentary on all episodes, storyboards, outtakes, and maybe some deleted scenes.

Well, that's unconventional. Most people I know are just going to go to Season Eight and stop (or buy them all) - you're the first person I've met who won't be getting the good seasons. Personally, I'll probably go up to Season Eight, and then I'll have to see whether I really have any reason to buy further sets. Currently I own the S2 set, and that's good, but I probably won't get S1 (at least not at the full price, the same as all the 22-episode seasons).

I wont be buying any, but i just dont get opting for the later seasons in spite of the early ones. MAtt groinig made the simpsons good, when he left they just tried to immitate him (poorly) and and added a bit of fox's trademark crude lowbrow filth to boot.

I bought the first Season, watched most episodes only once. Somehow it wasn't as funny as I thought it gonna be...  :hmpf:

Yeah, the same goes for the S2 set. There are still plenty of chuckles, but not many belly laughs. But that's OK, because I know the majority of the gems are in Seasons 3 and 4.

Look at http://www.snpp.com/episodeguide/season9.html

Here's a list of the titles:

The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson
The Principal and The Pauper
Lisa's Sax
Treehouse of Horror VIII
The Cartridge Family
Bart Star
The Two Mrs. Nahasapeemapetilons
Lisa the Skeptic
Realty Bites
Miracle on Evergreen Terrace
All Singing, All Dancing
Bart Carny
The Joy of Sect
Das Bus
The Last Temptation of Krust
Dumbbell Indemnity
Lisa, the Simpson
This Little Wiggy
Simpson Tide
The Trouble With Trillions
Girly Edition
Trash of the Titans
King of the Hill
Lost Our Lisa
Natural Born Kissers

Now that I look at it as a whole, it's not really that bad a season, but it definitely marked a turn towards quick gags rather than character-based comedy.

Me too.  At the rate they put them out, I might be 70 before they get to the last season.  I think season 3 doesn't come out until August here in the states.

Too bad it's taken so long for it to come out. I'll be in my 30's before I can get the entire episode run on DVD. Deplorable.

I'll probably get Season 3 on DVD, it's pretty decent. The seasons I most want are Season 6 and 7, and also 'Trilogy of Error' on DVD too  :)

I'll buy Season 3, when it arrives in the UK - it was a good season, and the commentarys are always interesting - although it would be nice to have some of the cast there as well, like Futurama. There's normally some really good extras as well.

I tend to go on DVD buying sprees, so I'll probably order Futurama S3, Simpsons S3 and West Wing S2 all at once when I get the cash.

I'll be getting them all up to Season 9 (that is if I want to in the next 8-10 years when it'll probably come out).  Hopefully season 3 sells well enough to get the rest of the seasons out faster so we don't have to wait a year for each season

Also I actually thought Season 2 was a very good season.  It was more plot based than later seasons and had very strong character development.  It wasn't perfect, but it contained personal favorites including A Brush with Greatness, The Way We Was, and Blood Fued.  I agree that Season 1 wasn't that great but I still got the joy of seeing the episodes unsyndicated  ;)

I want them all, because there are no crappy season.  Sure, there are some season that aren't as good, but they still have their moments.  And because I'm a completist.  And because some day (it won't be soon, but SOME DAY) the Simpsons won't be on TV at all, not even syndication, and I'll need to rely on the DVDs if I want to watch a specific episode.

I'm gonna buy every season in hopes to hear Mike Scully comment about what went "right" with such episodes as Simpson Safari.

I will buy every Season. In my opinion The Simpsons has only declined in quality with the most recent Season (14). Even now it's not a bad show, it's just so bland when you compare it to past seasons, the episodes are instantly forgetable. The drop in quality is made particularly obvious when Futurama is aired directly after New Simpsons on Sky each Sunday. I noticed it this week especialy. You go from watching a rather aimless and bland episode of The Simpsons starring Eric Idle (his talents were wasted) to Futurama's The Sting!

The Simpsons seasons that I like the most though are 3,4,7,8,9,10,and 13.
Season 3 is easily one of the best as it starts with one of my favourite episodes off all time- Stark Raving Dad, starring the true King of Pop, Living legend, and all round musical genius - Michael jackson! (or as the credits would have you believe, John jay Smith) I hope this subject is covered in the commentaries or with behind the scenes footage, as Greoning was clearly thrilled (no pun intended) to have him on the show, he mentions Michael quite a bit in the Season 2 extras.

In order to get The Simpsons out on DVD quicker, they should have different teams working on seperate seasons at the same time. They should set a target to have season 8 out by the end of 2004. That realy isn't asking too much.

I haven't planned on buying Simpsons DVDs in the near future because thanks to FOX's scheduling, Simpsons eps are no longer a rarity to me, whether they're the most recent ones or the classics.

But I might get season 3 because it's pretty old.

I'm not buying any seasons. Yes, I do hold an unreasonable grudge towards that show, mostly out of jealousy that it gets to continue on putting out crappy episodes while Futurama gets cancelled in (or possibly even before) its prime. Fox made me hate The Simpsons. I used to love that show...  :(

Where'd you hear that S3 was going to be delayed?  That's insanely annoying!!  Well...I was already spending enough money in August as it is, what with the Futurama S2 and Soul Calibur II for the Cube...
