I know this'll be obvious to any fans of the show, but I remember that Channel 4 UK used to bleep out a lot out of South Park, but now there isn't any bleeping or much swearing when they show it.
Is this just C4 censoring more, or has there been less swearing in South Park recently?
(not counting the film of course. Holy ****ing ****, those ****ers sure knew how to ****ing swear in that movie.)

Channel Four never cut South Park, it was made with those beeps, they are on the videos too.

But, in the U.S. broadcasts, they have cut down on the swearing. I guess there's only so much you can do with a constant foul-mouth. Remember, this is the show that said "shit" like 140 times in one episode. The novelty wore off.

I remember that eppy, Evan!  And I think they *did* cut down on the swearing just a little bit.  I guess they figured that it wasn't all that neccessary.  --Shit, did I spell that right?  Erm, anyway, South Park is an awesome show!  It was one of my favorites for about four years!  n___n

Hmmm they always bleeped in the US as well, even had a couple jokes about it in the Shit episode.  Not all the time, usually once or twice an episode at the most.

ok, i felt like reviving a very old thread, so, here

Are you sure that That was Tweek`s 1st episode?

didn`t the fight between Tweek and Craig air 1st?

oh, well, whatever, Tweek is a really cool character that should replace Kenny, that is, if Kenny could die, but i must say that i think that Butters is a funnier character, ummm well ok then

Gnomes is episode 217, Tweek vs Craig is episode 304, which aired later as it is in the next season.

South Park never cut down the swearing, you just get so used to it that you begin to forget about it. They DO have less beeps though, but the casual "damn," "bitch," "asshole," "bastard," etc. occurs just as often as ever. Also, they've been saying "fag" and "nigger" on the show lately.

With the Increasing trend towards Convservatism on todays western society, I think its far more likely that theres less swearing.

I haven't seen any of the post-season 6 episodes, so I can't really say for sure, but I think they are cutting down on the cussing.  And good for them.  Trey and Matt actually seem like intelligent guys, and I think it's cool they're trying to prove they can do more with their show.  (Specailly love the Lord of the Rings episode!)

Anyone catch the cure to SARS? I remember it was Sprite, Chicken Noodle Soup, and something else....

According to Stan's "inward journey" - the cure to SARS was Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup, Dayquill and Sprite.

Anyway, I think South Park's at it's high point right now. Ever since season 6, it's taken on a more political and satrical type of humor, and I love how the whole show's become an intelligence-insulting parody of life.

Is it translated into French? Any chance of getting an audio sample? I'd love to hear what the dubbed voices sound like.

I hate dubbed voices. I can't stand them.

I think that South Park did, in fact, stopped swearing as much. Probably because at the start of South Park's run, they needed to have the constant swearing as a shock value so they could have people talking 'bout the show. Later in the run, though, they knew that swearing constantly wasn't required as much any more, and toned it down slightly.

Don’t you live in Canada? Isn’t it bilingual over there? It is not hard to find DVDs of South Park in both English and French version over there, no?

South Park in my digital TV is shown in dual language French and the original, the DVDs here are available in German, French, Dutch and English with French subtitles I think. Unfortunately they don’t sell them season by season but a few episodes here and there, so I decided to buy them the next time I go back to Australia since I never saw season 1 to 4 and one episode of season 6.

Sorry I can’t give you an audio sample through the computer, I don’t have the device for it, and it’s off season since at least 3 months or so. We are up to season 7 here.

According to your profile you live in Japan, I am wondering so do you watch Japanese programmes in dubbed English version or Japanese version?

If you don't want to pay for a copy of south park which in my judgement should have the both language because there is the market for both in Canada, try to download one from a French website then.

Damnit, why was this thread bumped? This will get closed very soon...

But to answer the original 2-year-old question once again, no, the swearing has not been toned down. Compare recent episodes like Christian Rock Hard, Douche and Turd, etc. to any old episode and you'll find the same amount of swearing, if not more. It just tends to lose its affect once you watch a lot of the show. I barely notice it anymore, but if you really focus on it, the swearing's still there.

^True.  Though I think another part of it is that in the earliest episodes the swearing itself was part of the joke more often (not even just for shock value, but also because Parker and Stone wanted to explore the way third graders really are as opposed to the way they're usually portrayed in television, including the usually risque subject that kids actually do swear behind adults' backs).  Note the bit in the pilot where Kyle goes on a long swearing(and bleeped) rant against the aliens toward the end, or the opening that basically just consists of the kids saying naughty things without knowing what they really mean (like "dildo" ).  The first season in general had a lot of this sort of thing: the kids saying all these things but being fairly clueless about them (another example is the "licking carpet" scene in the the Tom's Rhinoplasty episode, where the kids take the term too literally).  That schtick eventually wore though, so in later episodes the swearing is more or less just Parker and Stone's own mouths coming through during the voicings, and thus it feels more like natural swearing that one wouldn't be as inclined to notice.
