You're going to get that with ANY book-turned-movie. What you're getting is the director's vision of the book, which, surprisingly enough, will not be the same and everybody/anybody else's. Like Venus says, what's the big deal?

Review. Well, not really, just random thoughts about it, and giving enough hints about the B-plots to make people curious. And come on, you all saw at least the second half of that spoiler sentence coming anyway. Ah, [Traitor deleted for security reasons] has really fucked himself this time...he ought to have chosen death. See? No spoilers, just enough to drive people nuts.

/\ /\ /\ <sigh> Anyway, read it. Am I the only one who's totally unconvinced that is a traitor? If for no other reason than the reason Dumbledore gave for trusting him - or rather, the reason that Harry assumed Dumbledore gave for trusting him - seemed really, really, lame. And it doesn't end so much as it does stop... but then, you should expect such a thing from a series it begins to draw to a close.

Started the book at 11:00 yesterday on a car ride up to our cottage. Thanks to the caootage having nothing much else I'd rater do, I was able to finish the book by 3:30 this afternoon (the fastest I've read a Potter book since book 3). Overall, it's not bad, I'm glad to see Harry no longer saying everything in caps, but it's not the best in the series. Anyway... I had correctly guessed Snape was the Half-Blood Prince on page 180. I knew whoever worte in the book was good at potions and I knew how irony worked, so I figured the book woudl wind up being Snape's old text. Then, when I found out the book used to be the H-BP's, I guessed that made Snape the Prince.
And I agree with SJM, the reason Dumbledore trusted Snape was unbelievably lame, and there had damn well be a better reason that gets uncovered in the last book. But I love that I wound up being suspicious of Snape at all; I'd decided in book 4 that Snape keeps getting presented at harry's first suspect so often he's got to be just a red herring. So the fact that I didn't trust him again during this book is, to me, some really good writing. I'm going to need a few days to digest the ending before I can critique it properly. Editied to fix the spoiler tags.

Oh man, Slacky, I agree with you. I didn't want to believe, I just refuse. I will ignore it. LALALALA. No, but seriously... I'm convinced JKR is going to turn it all around in the 7th, and Snape is going to be tied up in the bottom of a trunk or something, with Karkaroff drinking Polyjuice Potion and pretending to be him. I don't know, for all Snape said in Chapter 2, it just doesn't align right with the other books.

Alright, here goes: What it boils down to is that Snape had a choice between killing Dumbledore and killing himself, thanks to that weepy bitch Narcissa. Snape chose to save himself. Why? I'm not entirely sure. There's no way he's been a traitor all this time, despite his reassurances early on in the book. Snape's note evil, he just had his courage pushed beyond it's limits; he didn't want to die, especially since the others would have fragged Dumbledore anyway. Well, as far as he could tell. It would take too long to cover all his possible emotional motivations, but the simplest explanation is that his courage had already been pushed beyond the limits by his duties as a Good Guy, and he killed Dumbledore out of fear.
Besides, with all the Phoenix allegory, it's not like there's no chance of Dumbledore returning in some form. I just hope she doesn;t cheap out and bring him all the way back to life. Another interesting thing is that Rowling pimped this book with an identity mystery ("who is the Half-Blood Prince?" ) and ends it with another one to further encourage people to read the last novel: "who is "R.A.B.?"

YAY my hundreth post i wonder how many it takes to not be a noob. Let me put it this way, a non-noob doesn't ask "how many post it takes to not be a noob". My brother has our Harry Potter book, so I'll have to wait a bit to read it.

Bones was mentioned passingly in the beginning - ina Harry Potter book, that's a sure-fire method of becoming a major player later on.

I just finished it, and was overall very impressed. I think I'd put it second out of the six books thus far, behind GoF. It didn't have much of a plot, a bit unfortunate considering the book was 600 pages. But Harry was once again likable following his angstiness in Book 5, Dumbledore was back to his usual grandfatherly self, and Snape was as deliciously detestable as ever. The shippy stuff was very funny and well done, I thought. I do have a couple of complaints. Lot's of characters made only the most miniscule of appearances, or they were left out entirely. Wormtail, Bellatrix, Moody, Kingsley, Karkaroff, Bagman, Umbridge, and especially the V man (among others) himself were mostly M.I.A. In all likelyhood, many of these characters will play a part in Book 7, but I'm worried JKR has forgotten about some of them. And this was just about the biggest cliche in the history of fiction. Ron: I like, suck at Quidditch. Harry: Take this potion! With it, you will be skilled. Ron: Ron does very well. Ron: I are winner! Harry: LOL!!! I just gave you water. You had the skills all along. All you needed was confidence. Ron:

Ginny has gotten much better, that's for sure. She was shy and whiny and helpless at first, which for some reason, really bothered me. She's a pretty tough chick now. Ahem. Did anyone else get annoyed by how insightful Hermione is with relationships? I remember she had Harry's crush on Cho pinned a long time before it came to fruition. Now, in book 6, she's all "triumphant" when finally get together. Who made her Cupid, eh? I mean, Harry kept totally quiet about this new crush, and yet she acts like she knew it all along. I know we women have 'intuition' but that's a little far-fetched...

I just finnished reading the book today and I must say it was pretty good, although I don't think the title suites it because... the book didn't really center around the "Half blood Prince" anyway, but more towards Harry's look in to the life of Mr. V. Although it was interesting to find out it was Snape. I thought the shippy parts were funny, and that Ginny really did get a lot better. As for the guesses about who R.A.B is, they are very likly. I still have to look into it alittle before I decide on who it might be. Ah, spoken like a true fan...

Figured this deserves a response. Have you not realized Harry Potter takes about 80% of its story from Star Wars the same clichés as Star Wars? Seriously, I called "Han and Leia" about 60 pages into Sorceror's Stone.

It's the only example I've seen of what an infinite loop in the physical universe would look like. Anyway, back on topic, you may have noticed a few characters returning that weren't in the previous book, or were mostly overlooked. I just remembered my favorite one, though, from the first novel: Hagrid's pink umbrella of DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
