your born with magic in your blood, its not something you learn, its like a gift. Thats what seperates magic with muggles.

Isn't Harry's mother and father both magical... how does that work?

Maybe you get magical abilities through little creatures that live inside you and connect you to magic.  People with more of these little creatures would obviously have greater magical ability than those lacking them.  We could call them "magiclorians."

Yes, but there had to be talent there to begin with no, EvilLunch? Study does not seem to help the squibs no matter how hard they try...

I don't know, I thought Harry was pureblood; both his parent's were Wizards yes??? They both went to Hogwarts anyway. I had the impression that pure-bloods were people who never married outside of wizard families, whether they were aquibs or whatever. Hmmm. By that definition I guess Harry could be a half-blood,but I don't remember J.K. ever really going too deeply into Harry's parents' lineage.

I guess after a lot of secondguessing, it's really impossible to tell just from lineage exactly how great a wizard someone will be. I mean.. I'd say it is rather like the force..
No, George, you CAN'T just measure 'force' with a scanner...

ok, harry's lineage
Harry's Mother Lily (Evans) Potter was born of Muggle parents, which makes her a "Mud Blood"
James Potter was born of a pure blood wizarding family. They did the wizarding nasty and had harry, as his mother was of muggle origin he is half blood.

and if you finally dont believe it, flick to the back end somewhere of book 5, its is clearly stated that harry is half blood

Like EL said, I think it's impossible to tell who gets magic abilities. It is more luck than anything else. Also, Grim is right about knowing what makes people half-blood and what not. At least in my oppinion.

I heard on CNN, the publisher of Harry Potter’s books raised by quite a bit in their stock market performance because of the Harry Potter’s books selling so well.

TEH ZOMBIE THREAD!

Well, we've got Goblet of Fire coming out this year, commence speculation on what storylines will be ruthlessly hacked away.

First guess: Fred, George, and Bagman.

Cedric Diggory.  What can I say, I'm a cynic.  And he and Cho were eliminated from Prisoner of Azkaban entirely.  More seriously, they'll likely nix Hagrid's sidestory with Madame Qu'est-ce Qui Sa Visage and the whole Harry/Ron conflict.  And what Nix said of course.

Really, I'm more interested in The Half-Blood Prince, coming out next month.  I even pre-ordered it, because you just aren't going to find a better deal than 40% off on a new book.

Interesting fact: Potter novels are the only ones I bother buying in hardcover, because someone (forget who) gave my little brother the first four in hardback, and since he's illiterate, they became mine by default.

i think the quiditch games will be taken out or at the very least be made into a very short, rushed scene. GoF was a huge book that they got to condense into 2 hours.

Well, the only quidditch game in GoF is the World Cup, but they probably would cut it most of that down or just skip the whole game.

Well, the rest of it was pretty much 250 pages of teen angst and five or so with dragons, as I recall.

One thing I know they left out of the movie that nobody's said yet: the maze being in the Quiditch Field.

Who do you think is the Half Blood Prince, or the person that might be killed in the book? I have no idea on the Prince, but I have a feeling that either Ron or Dumbledore is killed in the next book.

Rowlings likes to pull the plot twist out of left field two parks over.  Villains tend to be incidental characters.  People you don't even think about.

For that reason, I think the Half-blood Prince is Dumbledore.

Also, I do believe Dumbledore will not survive the series.  But I don't think he's gone until book 7.

It's called reading the book.

Also, what Nixorbo said is what I meant with the maze thing.

Dumbledore as the Half Blood Prince? We don't know much of his past, so it's possible. I don't think she'd make Harry it, since he's the main character and it would be too obvious or cliche.

Well I am looking forward to the new film and book and so here is what I speculate.

well firstly I remember hearing that the guy who played Uncle Vernon was unhappy becuse they have pretty much cut the entire beginning of the book out and start the film with the Quiditch world cup.

As for the Half Blood Prince MKTai is right, Jk Rowling has said it is neither Harry or Voldermort....so i guess Hagrid either him or a new character who has yet to be introduced.

Out of interest, what is the release date for the movie?

At this point, I really don't think she'd introduce a character so crucial to the plot as to beat Voldemort, unless it was his parents or something, which is impossible.

By now, the movies just give me ideas, although the first one left me a bit disgruntled.  I had this great image of the castle grounds and the great hall that it completely ruined.  But my memory of movies is awful, so I ended up forgetting the movie and went back to my old way of envisioning things.  It's hard for me to forget what I've imagined throughout a whole book.

I gather she's quite pleased with the way the movies  have turned out so far anyway.
