Well, actually, the first movie was basically the whole book down to a "T," except they cut out the whole dragon scenario in the book. The second movie was their "learned from our mistakes" movie...they advance the plot faster, but I still wish they'd kept the gnome-tossing bit in....

And then again we may never see another movie.  Aren't all the kids in the movies growing up pretty fast, the books take place year after year, but it takes longer than a year to make a movie.  Then there's always the point of Dumbledore being dead (well the guy that plays him anyways)...

There will be more movies. Much more.
After all, I wouldn't be surprised if they have split Part IV or V into two movies, because nobody can stand a four hour movie.

I finished it up yesterday.  Had to wait until Tuesday to start it because my wife got ahold of it first on Saturday.

I don't think it was quite as good as Goblet of Fire.  She does keep everything until the last few chapters, but there are a lot of clues throughout the book about what's going to happen.  It was generally known that a major character dies, so every time somebody got seriously hurt, I was thinking 'oh, no, not ...'.

If Sirius gave Harry the mirror so they could communicate, why didn't he remind Harry of it after they realized the Floo network was watched?

Re the movies.  I thought their intent was to release them every year, around Thanksgiving (the US holiday at the end of November).  But it looks like Prisoner of Azkaban won't be out until next June, tho it may have just been delayed by the death of Richard Harris.  I'll have to agree with Gocad, parts IV and V should probably be split in 2 parts.  They can afford to slip the dates some...wouldn't be the first time actors played characters younger than they are.

Cho Chang has become so annoying it makes my head hurt. I mean honestly she was one of the few sane not-so-major or dysfunctional in some way characters from the third and fourth books. Now, she's just a mess of nagginess. In fact, they should have a stronger word for annoying and naggy: Annaggy. Yes, Cho Chang is annaggy.

The Prisoner of Azkaban had been slated for the Fune release date anyway, even before Richard Harris died. There's one simple reason - The Matrix. It would be insane for Warner Brothers to release two blockbuster movies in the same month. So, The Matrix Revolutions was scheduled for Novemeber, Harry Potter for June, bringing in more cash for Warner Brothers.

No way. After two books of lead in and then this book where the chemistry starts to build, Cho is far from history. Remember how Lily treated James when he was at Hogwarts? Somehow I doubt we've seen the last of Cho Chang.

I know I just don't like it when characters change so drastically. I'd hate it if in book 6 if Snape became this really nice guy who liked to give his students flowers and ride ponies. Than again, I guess she could be suffering from the traumatic events that happened to Cedric. I hope Snape doesn't join Voldemort like rumours have been saying. He's one of my favorite characters.

That make's sense from a writer's standpoint, but not a character's standpoint.  (Love that Lord-Thingy of Fudge's at the end.  He's such a dope.)

I found Cho a bit annoying as well.

I can understand her being upset when Cedric is mentioned, and even bothered about Harry meeting Hermione (they are teenagers, after all), but I don't understand her sticking up for her friend who betrayed them to Umbridge.

Incidentally, is it me, or does it sound like in the movies they say Her-MY-ne, instead of Her-My-o-ne?

Wouldn't be surprised - English-speakers in general tend to drop syllables in different words, it's probably just their dialect.

Yeah, that's what I thought. But why would she have SO much lead in just to have it fizzle out like that? And is she really going to let Harry spend the next two books miserable, lonely, and without love interest? It will be especailly difficult for him if, as I forsee, Hermione and Ron hook up.

Cho was never really introduced, at least we never learned anything about her background. All we know is that she is cute. I think that Luna Lovegood will be a more important character in the future...

I agree that Lovegood's name is heavy foreshadowing, but I thought she would come into play not with Harry but with Ron... At least at first. The way she continually flirted with him made me think the events would happen like this:

1.) Ron becomes jealous of Hermione and Krum.
2.) Ron gives up on Hermione, goes after Luna.
3.) Hilarious love triangle between Ron, Luna, and Hermione ensues.

On the other hand, to be perfectly honest, I hadn't really considered Luna and Harry together, and after that bit at the end of the book, it seems to make sense.

And to be honest, I wouldn't miss Cho.

Only time will tell!

Right after Luna told Harry about the other kids hiding her things. After that it came apparent that the two may have feelings for eachother. Harry felt really sorry for her. And Cho now seems like a slut she's gone from Harry to Ginny's ex.

Yeah I agree, I think Luna is gonna be an important part of the future books. I mean afterall, she did have a whole chapter named after her. I dont think Cho is gonna play a significant part really. I think the role of Cho was to show that Harry has had a bit of experience with girls thats all, and that if he and Luna do get together, its not like he's been thrown straight into the deep end and that he'd act differently and understand more. Even though he did nothing wrong in the first place and Cho just needed a slap  I think she was there for background references for later books thats all

(Very bad word)I don't think we've seen the end of Umbridge... the kids did lead her to near certain doom, she's gonna want vengance!  As for everyone's theories about Luna, I hadn't thought about it, but yeah... I agree.  Also, I'm glad Fred and George are doing well for themselves away from Hogwarts.
Does anyone think the DA will reform next year?  I mean, there's really no need anymore, but it's a good narrative inclusion.
And as for the death, I managed to avoid the spoilers elsewhere and was completly surprised.  And saddened.  I thought it would be a 'negative' character, like one of the Malfoy's.  Imagine how much trouble there would have been in store for Harry had it been Draco or Snape or even Dudley who died.

Yea, I was disappointed not to learn of the O.W.L. results.  The twin's departure was perfect...classic Fred and George.  I think DA will have to re-form next year.  He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is still out there.  They certainly didn't capture all the Death Eaters, either.  They may just be part of the Defense Against the Dark Arts class, but I think they'll still have some after-class meetings.

I noticed Nevile is getting better at magic.  I have a feeling his absent-mindedness isn't natural.  I suspect he witnessed what happened to his parents and had a Memory Charm put on him to make him forget it.  We know from Bertha Jorkins in Goblet of Fire that Memory Charms can have that effect.

Hey, yeah!  That was one of my favourite bits about the book, the fact that the prophecy could have referred to Neville instead.  I think Lord V's got some plan for Longbottom...
But I also thought he was just getting better at magic because the death eater who tortured his parents was out there and he wants REVENGE!

I think Neville knew exactly what happened with his parents, because he became really terrified when ME Moody introduced the class to the cruciatus curse. Another question is, did Lord-Thingy lose his body again when he was defeated by Dumbldore?

Oh fine, just this once.

I maintain that Dumbledore cannot survive all 7 books.  After all, in every book, it's mentioned how everything will be fine if Dumbledore is around, that Dumbledore was the only one Voldemort ever feared, etc etc.  Harry will never be able to stand on his own as long as Dumbledore's around.  It won't be a satisfying conclusion if Dumbledore's around to lend aid.  Ultimately, Harry has to do everything on his own.
