50% anime fans are idiots.
50% assholes.

You read the fanfiction some of them have written and you tend to agree.

Ah, yes. Asuka. From what I've heard, she's very annoying. But she looks cute as hell. I can make that latter claim just looking at the side of the new Eva box I got that came with the DVD. I'll be looking foward to it.

Oh Asuka.  The bitchiness is completely evaporated the farther you go into the series.  Well, maybe not exactly, but you'll understand why exactly she's like that.  Plus, she is incredibly cute.

On a related Evangelion topic, is it possible to be both a fan of Asuka and Rei? Because I seem like the only person who "loves" both of them with no ill will toward the other.

@nurdbot & nerdlingus- that's good, I'll know to steer clear of anime fan boards in future- someone might get hurt... again...

@evan- Rei is great, I only wish she'd been developed more in the series. I have a sort of love/hate relationship with Asuka- when she's bitchy she can be annoying, but eventually you see throught that and realise she's probably more fragile then all the other characters. Then I really feel sorry for her. And this happens as early as episode 9.

YES.

Rei is awesome, not to mention H-O-T. :D
I've already made my comments on Asuka.

Ahhh, Anthony Dantuono, where have you gone?

Anyway, I used to despise Rei...but that was only 'cause she reminded me of an ex-girlfriend who would Never. Talk. Ever.  Years have gone by and I sympathize with her more and more, poor girl.  Plus imagine how cold she must have been during the movie.

I'm gonna have to back Spirited Away. I'm not much of an anime fan and I still fell in love with that film.

I also have Princess Mononoke which is good too.

I dunno if this counts as anime, but some of the animatrix films were OK. I think that kinda counts as Anime for Dummies...

I have to say I didn't like Akira. Too out there for me.

Just saw Bebop the movie. All in all, pretty cool, but it doesn't measure up to some of the better episodes of the series. Still serious kicks ass though.

I, too, love both Asuka and Rei. They're so gorgeous, it makes up for the fact that Asuka's got major issues and Rei's a ice queen. Shinji doesn't have very much to redeem his whininess..
Ritsuko and Maya are still my favorite characters, though. I've cosplayed both of them.

I think this was in one of the few issues of Animerica I picked up, but said issue listed all these themes and "facts" about Evangelion.  Taking Sigmund Freud into consideration,  Asuka's the id and Rei's the superego.  There is this tension that tends to rip the two apart, and why Shinji can only side with one at a time.

If you don't believe the fan-fics involving hot three-way sex. Lol

Is anyone here a fan of the show Case Closed, I got into it a few weeks ago. It's a rather clever show about and really smart Lawyer named Jimmy that gets turned into a little kid. He then changes his name to Conan and starts sloving cases with his girlfriend who doesn't know that Jimmy has been turned into a child. It airs on Adult Swim at 10:00 est. and 1:00 wst.

Now how in the hell are you going to call Asuka an Id, when you have Unit-f*ing-01 in the same damn show.  I think it was more likeThe three females were portraying for shinji the "Three faces of mother" "Mother" (Misato) "Person" (Rei) "Woman" (Asuka) of course to build dramatic tension each of the female roles, the trio completely assumes these roles [Rei has no real face other than just a person who interacts, Misato assumes the role of nuturing mother, and Asuka drips with bold feminism] at the same time they also are horrible at being in these roles.  Rei is tottally indifferent to people, Misato is an Alchoholic, and Asuka can't get past her own pride.  So Shinji seeking to re-connect with these matronly atributes he has never truly known only finds himself more astranged to women, and his concept of mother than ever before.

In the industry we call this "Drama."

Thing is about Kaworu. He was one of the only characters (apart from his mother) to show Shinji true affection. This is also probably why he felt so betrayed by him/it.

Now I like both Rei and Asuka with more of a leaning to Asuka. Just one thing

I was just looking through ANIDB (great site) and I saw an extra episode called "After the end". Now I posted a pic in the anime pic post with the same name but I thought it was a mock up pic but now I am more curious, does anyone know about this episode?

Anywho. I just started reading One Piece and I have got to say it is great. I mean it has a guy made of Rubber and pirates, what more do you need?

Go Rei. Yay Rei! Rei. Yep.

(Not that I hate Asuka, mind... it's just Rei has the whole... 'Rei' thing going... if I have to pick only one mentally disturbed 15 year old, it's got to be her.)

@Wu

Yep, I agree.
But thats only because I've seen the series now.

For the first half (or was it two thirds?) the Shinji and Rei thing was definately plausible.

And as with Slacky, I'm all for Rei.  I used to hate Asuka until I saw EoE but either way Rei still rocks my boat.    ;)

Reminds me of that Seat car ad playing on UK tv at the mo....

Edit.
Slacky, shame on you trying to sound 'not so bad' by telling yourself she's 15.
Down one more I think.

Really?

Oh well, she's still mentally disturbed and cool. Like all the best women are. Except for the ones that try to kill you. Stay away from those ones.

Incidently, wu_konguk when did that whole
thing come up? Though, now that you mention it, it makes a lot of sense.

Is that in that last movie? I'll see it one day...

(Of course, the possiblity exists that it came up in the show and I forgot about it... it's been a while.)

Edit.

For those that do read fanfics and have seen the Eva series etc.. then I recommend this fic. Its comedy based, so there isn't much shippyness in it if any at all.
Without trying to sound to much like a plug though, do read, its one of the funniest fics I've ever read.

@Wu: Nobody said it yet.. But a few posts up, the 'After the End' pic.. Is it the three children slightly older? With Shinji holding Asuka, and Rei naked as usual? I found that a while back and was dismayed to learn that it's only a REALLY REALLY good fanart.
And the whole Lilith and Yui and Rei thing... Who cares? Shinji's too busy strangling/jacking off over Asuka to get involved.
EDIT: Pitt!

I'm pretty sure that her line isn't actually omitted in the Japanese version, but what exactly her line is varies depending on the translation you've got.  At least, that's what I've heard.  I've never seen EoE, so I wouldn't really know.
