Samuel L. Jackson.
He's got cool oozing from every orifice.

Eddie Murphy, Jim Carrey, Mel Gibson (depending what film he's in), Harrison Ford, Liam Neeson and Colm Meaney are good too.

- Colm Meaney.
- Ewan McGregor
- Brad Dourif (Grima Wormtongue in LotR, and Ensign Suder, the homicidal Betazoid in ST: Voyager. He also performed in Alien: Resurrection)
- Carel Struycken, who appeared in at least 5 TNG episodes (Mr. Homn), Twin Peaks (the giant), ...
- J.G. Hertzler (Martok)

I hate Nicholas Cage.
Eddie Murphy is not funny for me anymore.
And Robin Williams is SO NOT FUNNY.

Kevin Spacey is my favourite current (still in work!) actor if you're talking acting skills rather than looks.

Russell Crowe:

Born in a hard area of a hard town, in a hard country, at a hard time, during an epidemic of total hardness.

You just wouldn't mess with the guy.  Obviously for Gladiator, but LA Confidential is one of his best also.

Keanu Reeves : Has made some good films in his time. I have fond memories of watching him in "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" when I was little. He is also the 'One' in one of my favourite films, The Matrix. Also see Desire thread.

There are lots of other actors I like, who were good in their day, like Steve McQueen.

Oh come on. I am a huge Owen Wilson fan, but even I can see the ridiculousness in saying he's the best actor "of all time". And Keanu Reeves and Adam Sandler? Come on! Every critic who ever died is rolling in their grave!

Ben Browder

He is cool. He reminds me of David Duchovney and William Shatner, in the sense that while he's not a very good actor, he has a unique screen presence, and he fits his character so well. Think about any other actor playing Kirk or Mulder or Chrichton. I don't care who it is, it's just not as good without them.

Who's Ben Browder?

What about actresses? Julianne Moore's ok although I have only really seen her in Big Lebowski and, ahem Boogie Nights.
Jeff and Loyd Bridges, John Goodman and Charlie Sheen are good too.

Doesn't the thread title say "favourite actor of all time"?

I'd probably have to say Katey Sagal and Ted Danson.

In no particular order: (I'm assuming male actors)
1) Gene Hackman
2) Sean Connery
3) Pierce Brosnan
4) George Clooney
5) Lawrence Fishburne (Matrix only)
6) Samuel L. Jackson
7) Brad Pitt
8) Matt Damon
9) The rest of the "Ocean's 11" Cast.
