The Singles Chart has become meaningless in the face of record company fixing No.1's and manufactured chart acts, which have made a mockery of the music business.

Therefore having the Xmas No.1 is no mean feat anymore, and it's doesn't carry the mythical status that it once did.

It's worse in New Zealand, in that 75% of the charts are actually based on the amount of play-time on certain radio stations. The number of records bought only contributes for 25%....

Juliet...

NOBODY FUCKING CARES. It's a meaningless competition between a bunch of talentless pre-fab "artists". It has absolutely no significant bearing on the world of music or anything else.

There. Rant over.

Yeah, but it goes down in history - in its own little way - as being the number one for christmas, in a way that most of the other crappy number ones throughout the year don't.
That said, I don't much care either.

I like old songs better.

99% of the new songs anymore are hyped, lame and dumb like Rap songs,Creed,Boy Bands or some lady that can't really sing and has big boobs.

Where is this for? Remember PEEL here is international... Is this the USA? UK? On what charts? Mainstream? Alternative?
Frustrating vague ignorance.

As Kryten put it, "Rant over."

I really don't like any of the choices listed above, which is sad, because I used to really like Eminem. I guess the British music scene is a lot worse than the American. And, trust me, the American music scene is really crappy. Except for Eminem, I haven't heard any of those songs before, and something is telling me I'm lucky.

Evan, you are lucky.

Out of those selected, Eminem is the best. It's not my most favourite Slim Shady single, but damn sight better than most of the other manufactured bullshit trying to claim a number one. I mean, technically I absolutely detest the idea that Popstars: The Rivals will only be decided after whether the boy's single, or the girl's single (which is f*cking shit BTW) get's the Xmas No1. I hope they both crash and burn! I really do. Not a dig at the band members personally, but the idea really irritates me, enough with the f*cking engineered bands!

'Twas a bad year for British music. I think most of the #1's this year have been cover versions.

OK for those wh don't knoiw:

Girls Aloud and One True Voice are the manufactured bands created for Popstars series 2, which makes it about the fifth damn music reality TV show in recent times.

They are releasing songs for Xmas #1 and are hyping up some big battle. I hope Eminem gets it. I dont even like him, but he already kept the Cheeky Girls off #1, and if he keeps the Popstars off aswell I will donate my organs to him!

Unfortunately I dont see that happening any time soon. As Melllvar states, the pop singles chart is all about publicity. Record companies actually buy singles themselves, pay members of the public to do so etc. They fix the charts knowing that the pre-pubescants who buy these songs will fall into their money-making advertising trap.

And Creed do suck. Sorry but thats just my opinion.

Juliet. I'm sure no-one meant naything personal, but most people over the age of 12 aren't interested in Popstars. There's a reason it is on a saturday night at 7. People our age are out dancing and getting laid at that time  :p

My guess (but not my vote, wouldn't vote for any of them) would be Eminem, he's got the public where he wants it.

I say clone Frank Sinatra and the rest of the Rat Pack so we can have some good Xmas tunes again.
Oh, and gather the most musically talented monkeys and clone them too and then put them in a room full of typewriters.
