Why am I having a heart attack?  Because CBS sucks!  Have Leno move to CBS and give Conan his time slot!

Conan style TOTPD.

Besides, it's not confirmed. But if Conan wants that 11:30 slot, his best bet would be to go to CBS.

Wait, is Letterman retireing?

No, Kilborn is stepping down.  CBS wants Conan to replace him.  Then, when Letterman steps down in a few years (which he will, eventually), Conan will be moved up to 11:30, against Leno.

*ka-bump*

It was announced today, Conan will take over for Leno in 2009.  CBS is offically SOL - with Kilborn gone and Letterman ready to retire soon.

I think Conan is the best as of now since Kilborn is gone and "Tonight Show" and "The Daily Show" been going down in quality as of late. Conan is also probably the funniest one of all the hosts anyway.

Im not the biggest fan of leno, but full credit to the way he handled this. Im stoked though, Ill be able to watch conan at 9:30, he deserves this gig. I just hope the whole crew moves over to the show, andy blitz and the max weinberg 7. I turned on to Jay just after the monolauge, I thought conan was getting the show emmidietly. Jay then said "This isnt today, this isnt tommorow this is in 5 years". My heart dropped.

Also it better stay in New York. LA can go die.

To be honest, I'm a little worried about Conan getting the Tonight Show.  After all, there are a number of wonderful elements in Late Night that you probably couldn't do in a more visible time slot. (Namely, Masturbating Bear and announcer Joel Goddard's fascination for the Asian male prostitutes)  If they drop those, and others like it, it would really be a disappointment.

As for who should get Conan's show, well, I heard Jon Stewart's name mentioned, but I think he's better suited to "The Daily Show".  Of course, I could be persuaded on a show entitled "Up Too Late with Stephen Colbert".  Just idle speculation, mind you.

Yeah, I'm worried about Conan's move.  I don't know if his writers/staff/characters will be able to join him on The Tonight Show.  As Ttomalss said, I can't imagine the Masturbating Bear on at 11:30.

The Masterbating Bear will probably have gotten little old by 2009 anyway.

Actually, the bear will be taking over for Conan when Conan takes over for Leno.

We don't have a problem with it now in the central time zone. Of course, that means he'll soon be on at 10:30 here, which is inexcusable.   :hmpf:

Glad Conan is finally going to get the 11:30 slot. Seems CBS is royaly screwed now, though. Letterman is running out of steam, and Kilborne is gone. It'll be interesting to see who they finally get to take over the Late Late Show.

I think when Conan takes over for "The Tonight Show" he is going to keep most of the things that made him popular on later time slot.( Masterbating Bear)

I watched Jon Stewart on The Charlie Rose Show tonight (PBS show, very hoity-toity talk show) and Stewart was forced to admit that he's looking for an 11:30 spot.  His contract with Comedy Central runs until 2008, so it's completely possible he could move to CBS if Letterman retires.  Conan v. Stewart...that'd be most interesting...

I wonder if there was any pressure at all from NBC for Leno to retire.

Either way...what kind of "news" is that? He's not retiring for five more years! I'm now going to announce my retirement from whatever job I have in fifty years, in fifty years.

Dave actually made fun of that on Late Night the other night. Almost everything in his monolouge was to this effect:
"Hey Conan, congrats on the move to the Tonight Show.... in 2009!"
He sure likes ripping on NBC. He's probably still bitter that he didn't get The Tonight Show back in 93.

Maybe Dave was still holding out to take over The Tonight Show if/when he quits CBS.  But, honestly, I'm glad Dave will go off the air soon...he's just a shade of his former self.

He hasn't talked to Leno since Leno got the Tonight show spot after Carson left. Leno wanted to avoid that happening again, which is why he announced it so early.

EDIT: Wonder if Carson Daly's gonna move into the 12:35 slot.

When Dave lets go and just acts like himself, he's still hilarious. It's the scripted jokes and rehearsed interviews that suck.

But getting off of the Letterman/Tonight Show topic, I just want to say that as much as I love the Daily Show, John Stewart is a douche clown. His post-presidential debate special was horrible. What is wrong with him? Douche clown.

Jon Stewart was on CNN's "Crossfire" last week.  Naturally, he used the spot to plug his new book, but he also brow-beated hosts Tucker Carlson and Paul Belga on how they're destroying the political process.   :laff:  It's mean, but incredibly deserving.

He's a Scottish actor/comedian.  He's on those "I Love the _____" shows on VH1, and he's relatively funny on that. (Of course, he doesn't have much competition.)  You probably remember him better as the Wacky English Boss on "The Drew Carey Show."

This guy.

I haven't watched his new show yet, because it hits against Conan.  That's going to be the death knell for him, sadly..until Conan goes to the Tonight Show, Ferguson will be DOA. I will give him a shot on Monday (when Conan airs repeats) though.

Conan's great and all, but not so great that I can't give new people a try. I remember I gave Kilborn a try, and I actually thought he was good. Until I realized that every single show was exactly freaking the same.

Come to think of it, I have seen some commercials for the new guy. I didn't realize he was semi-famous, though. Cool. I never watch TV these days, but maybe I'll try to stay up and watch it sometime.

Conan is too self-involved to take serious in the interview section, but he has the best comedy section in the first 1/2 hour than most others have throughout their entire shows. I wish Triumph would show up more often. and the "Pierre Bernard' recliner of rage" bit never gets old.  :laff:

*The Pierre Bernard thing was stupid. It wasted alot of time. But I do admit, one or two of those skits were funny.

*My favorite Walker, Texas Ranger Lever moments were there:
-The kid on a ladder, the man tells him to jump, the kids jumps, and the man watches him fall.
-Walker proposes to someone, then he suddenly gets shot in the back.

*I also hope Joel, the Max Weinberg 7, and the writers move with Conan.

*Even if some of his skits get pulled, it won't be that big a blow. They're getting old anyway.

How dare you post something an hour or two after it happens!  Nobody could possibly have just turned on their computer/radio/TV and found out shortly after the rest of the world did.  The impudence!

Anyway, glad to see it posted somewhere.  The dead celebrities thread got shitcanned, didn't it?
