This came up in one of the other threads between me and Sarge. Instead of spamming that one, I'll start something new.

Which is your favorite late-night talk show?

IMHO, its a good tie between Conan and Jon Stewart for fav. talk show host. Conan's good, but I do think he falls back on the 'I'm so unpopular, no one likes us' jokes way too much. Especially since he's on 2 channels now (NBC and Comedy Central).

The Daily Show is also really good, though it's usually too dependant on what's going on in the world. Slow news day = not that great.

Letterman's fine, though he's getting really weird. His repitorie is a lot of in-jokes mainly.

I could give or take Kilborn or Leno. Especially Leno.

COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONAN!
Come on, masturbating bear!! That's the greatest thing ever!
I've always hated Leno. Kilborn is dull. Letterman is a God, but his show is...meh now. Let's see if Jay Leno will float.....

I love Conan and Leno.  Have to give it to leno though.  COnan makes an ass of himself all the time, which is great in its own right, but Leno is the best.  Letterman sucks.

Lately I haven't been able to get enough of Letterman. I know he relies on in-jokes a lot, but damn it, that's what I love about him. The other talkshows seem too rehearsed and overwritten. I'd rather just watch Letterman goof around and show Dr. Phil clips all day. His idiotic games are great, too. "Will It Float?" and "What The Hell Is It?"...that's the kind of crap I like to play at home.

Also, Letterman is a class act, as shown by his 9/11 and Warren Zevon shows.

Conan is good too, but the humor factor of his show has been steadily declining for the past few years, and the repeated jokes tend to annoy me. Already mentioned is the "nobody watches us" stuff, but there are a lot of other Conan cliches that piss me off(I don't feel like going into them now...maybe some other time when it's not 3:30am). Also, Conan is hands-down the worst interviewer on TV--which is too bad, because he is really hilarious. I wish he'd lighten up, forget about the staged questions, and just have a normal conversation for once.

I'm not much of a Leno fan at all. I'll watch Kilborn if he has a good guest, but his comedy is pretty forgetable.

Conan also was a writer for the Simpsons, he did some great episodes like Marge vs the Monorail one and Homer Goes to College.

I like both the NBC guys, but Conan is better. His humor is more quirky. He tends to make fun of himself whereas Leno pics on other people. Even if Ritchard is no longer there, he still rocks. One con though: I have to stay up later for his show.

You make me choose between Conan and Leno so I voted for Conan.  In reality I watch them both regularly.  Don't watch the others much and I have a particular distaste for Letterman.

Jon Stewart needs votes.  He's got the best delivery since Chevy Chase on SNL's Weekend Update.

Letterman. He's just the greatest. Conan is... repetitive and immature. The masturbating bear isn't funny, because you know ahead of time that he's going to masturbate. Which is, amazingly enough, not very funny, especially after you've seen it a few times. Letterman is the real deal.

I have to disagree with Nix. Jon Stewart is a hilarious man(the Daily Show rocks, and I liked his MTV/syndicated shows a lot too), but I've never been a fan of his delivery. I don't like the way he laughs at his own jokes. I think the show would be better off with Steve Carell hosting it. He's so dreamy.

Jon Stewart, because he can do that baffled wide eyed look so well, and like FJ said, the delivery system is outstanding...

Of the ones I've heard about Leno is the best. At least his jokes are funny.

Letterman is just a lot of weird in-jokes, although the deli-guy is quite good.

If it's possible, I'd like to take back my vote to Conan and give it to Jon Stewart. Conan's pretty good behind the desk and with his skits, but his monologue's suddenly started to get on my nerves. His 'no one watches us, all the other shows we've done suck' shtick is really growing lame.

True, but I'm assuming Conan doesn't have a whole lot to do with Triumph. It seems like more of a Robert Smigel thing.

I attended a taping of Late Night the summer before last. Christopher Walken was the guest...it was pretty good show. After the taping, they test-screened a Triumph sketch where he goes to a Bon Jovi concert, and it was awesome. The whole audience loved it...I've never seen so many people laughing so hard. Smigel must feel like a real badass, getting more laughs in ten minutes than Conan and the writers got in the whole hour-long show beforehand.

I've gone with Conan - we occasionally get his shows on CNBC and he's pretty funny.  I miss Arsenio Hall's show from the early nineties.  My favourite British talk show is Jonathan Ross's, simply for the quality of the guests - Tenacious D were on the last series.

I am bringing this up so we can talk about Jimmy Kimmel. What do you people think of his new show?

I can't see it lasting too long. Kimmel looks like he is totally underprepared to host a daily live broadcast, and I think ABC hates him.

And yet, I have to admit...last night's Armenian Comedian guest segment was the funniest/strangest thing I've seen in ages. I was eating cereal at the time, and I almost died.
