Like many kids and their brothers, I used to watch Macgyver with my brother. Fun times, they were. But there was one problem: ALF came on at the same time.

I'd go to school the next day and everyone would be talking about ALF. All the kids were like "ALF this" and "ALF that". I would sheepishly ask "So uh, did anyone see Macgyver?" and the kids would just point and laugh.

Point ALF.

However, Macgyver stayed on the air several years after ALF. Though Macgyver was eventually shamefully cancelled, it wasn't in the middle of a cliffhanger like ALF.

Point Macgyver.

ALF later came back with a TV movie that resolved things. Macgyver actually had two TV movies, but they were both crappy and they resolved nothing. Also, ALF had two cartoon shows and a part in an anti-drug special.

Point ALF.

Currently, ALF is staging a comeback thanks to 10-10-220 commercials. So ALF is the clear winner here, right? Right?

Maybe not!

That's right, a feature length Macgyver movie! I'd like to see ALF pull that one off.

Even though ALF wins on a number of levels, I think this movie puts Macgyver ahead. But obviously, it's open to debate, which is why I'm starting this thread.

MacGyver's biggest fans are Patty and Selma.

Point: Alf.

I hate Alf. Remember?  He even invaded the offtopic bar on the main page.

McGyver, and that guy he worked for, later returned in that sci-fi series.

macgyver can like escape from a deserted island with a paper clip and a rubber band and and like shoot him with one of those electric guns or something.
alf eats cats, i believe. if macgyver were a cat, alf might have a chance.

Personally, I'd like to see Alf and MacGuyver stop their fighting and found a crime-fighting acadamy somewhere in the Northwest.

(cue 80's action series music now)

(cut to the opening montange of the series, with various clips of MacGuyver and Alf sneaking into buildings, defusing bombs, saving the girl from neo-Nazis, sliding across the hoods of cars, and, of course, sharing a good laugh at the end.)

MacGuyver all the way.  I never liked ALF.  I was always hoping that the government guys looking for him would find him.  Then they'd make an episode showing his alien autopsy.  That would have been cool.

I just remember that my dad used to watch MacGuyver. Can't say much about the alien life form, though. I vote for the terran action-guy form.

Never watched MacGyver, preferred The A-team. It's practically the same thing, but at least H.M.Murdoch was funny.

Alf was pretty funny too, so he'll get my vote.

Oh come on. ALF was cool. I can't remember ever watching MacGuyver when it was first aired, so I only have memories of it as a lame afternoon repeat.

I liked ALF, didn't even know MacGyver existed back then. Unfortunately, I never saw the end of the series, or the very beginning of the TV movie. Plus I was awed by the fact that the family he lived with had my namesake. Pity I knew nothing of copyright back then. Could have sued their pants off. :D

But . . . that's like so very many things.  Macgyver is completely different from the A-Team.  The A-Team is a crack team of military commandos convicted for a crime they didn't commit.  Macgyver works with the government.  The A-Team is comprised of 4 people - Hannibal, Face, Murdoch, and Mr. T/B. A. Barrachus.  Macgyver is . . . Macgyver.  The A-Team transforms cars and various other vehicles into moving weapons that will break in/out of any given compound.  Macgyver makes little gadgets that will do almost anything.  The A-Team uses guns in almost any situation, although they never hit anything.  Macgyver abhors guns.

Disclaimer: I have never seen a MacGyver episode, I'm going on what I've heard, what I've read etc.

They both fight on the side of good, they both fight for the little people, they both find themself in impossible situations and just happen to have everything they need to escape, just have to use a little engenuity. Both shows have catchy theme songs, they never kill anyone, they're all American, they all wear shoes, etc. The similarities are almost uncanny.

And now seriously (you heard me), the basic is the same. Guy(s) help little folks, guy(s) get into trouble, guy(s) manufacture highexplosives from chewing gum and matches/rocket launcher from firwork and balsa wood, guy(s) ride intot he sunset.

Now that's not necessarily a bad thing. I loveŽd The A-team. Don't know about MacGyver. I mean, Patty and Selma! ::Sideshow Bob shudder::

I remember ALF being on in the afternoons when I was younger. Thinking back it was a big strange - I remember him always having to hide in the kitchen when people came around or in the Garage where he lived. He'd always just pop up behind the kitchen shutters that led into the living room... never got to see his legs... weird huh! Well sometimes you'd see him walking around but it was pretty fake... Also thinking back his voice was pretty wacked... Imagine if you were the voice-for-ALF guy. I wonder what he actually looks like...   :p Still... I don't know, my memory is a bit sketchy.
Macgyver on the other hand, I only saw very late at night should I still be up flicking channels randomly. It was pretty fake too. I don't buy into that sort of thing really in the first place. He somehow manages to escape or save a girl with photocopier toner fluid and a the nib from his ballpoint pen. Now, I could do that, but I just don't wanna....

MacGyver hands down.

ALF was crap. He couldn't do any of the things MacGyver did.

He's like a sober version of Roger from American Dad.
