Did anyone saw the awards? I thought the performances were very cool, especially Avril Lavigne, The Hives, The Vines and Guns N´Roses but the awards were so wrong. How could Eminen winned 4 awards? P.O.D deserved at least 1 award.
What do you think?

Meh, what a f@#$ing commercial back-scratching farce. Do they really expect the general public to see the likes of Michelle Branch and Avril Lavigne as having more credibility than Britney Spears, etc just because some record executive has them hold a guitar in their videos?

That lead singer of the Vines reminds me of a an epileptic 12-year old. He's bloody fool the way he carries on. If that 'Get Free' song of theirs was any more of a rip off of 'Negative Creep', it would be beyond a joke.

I hate MTV.

I'm dreading October.

I hate MTV too. In fact, I hate the VMA´s because they always give awards to the most popular artists when there a lot of bands that make better videos like Rammstein but I do like The Vines .

It just furthers my theory that music sucks these days.  Is ANYONE going to remember these "bands" in a few years?

Avril Lavigne is crap, she is punk pop, the worst two music types out there. And she only has ONE hit song and wears the same outfit all the time.

There's nothing punk about Avril Lavigne. The Sex Pistols are punk. She has very little in common with the Sex Pistols.

Kiddies, award shows will always be a joke, especially when MTV is involved. As long as Eminem is white, he will continue to "winned" awards. I have no problem with that because at least they are going to someone with talent. Talent! Something that I notice is seriously lacking as I look through the nominees for best hip hop video and best rap video. *does a double take* Two different awards: best hip hop video and best rap video. Uh, MTV......*shakes head* whatever. DMX, P. Diddy, Missy, Ja Rule and Ashanti, Fat Joe and Ashanti, J-Lo and Ja-Rule. Are you f*ckin' kidding me? This is hip hop/rap to you? *feels sorry for MTV* If only you knew....

Yes, that is what MTV leads us to believe. And people who say a certain genre sucks should be beaten with a...can of soup?  ;)

I'd prefer MTV to play nothing but the crappy, manufactured side of hip hop and rap over them playing crap like Bush and Stone Temple Pilots like they did in the mid-90s. This way, you can just ignore the entire channel.

I thought the opening number was great, especially when he took the piss out of Englesias, that guy plays up to the camera with melodrama in his videos more than any other male artist, looks like he's constantly constipated.

The Hives performance would have had me in stitches laughing on the floor had it not been 4 in the morning and I didn't want to wake everybody up, they should be mimes or conceptual dance artists instead of a band. Arseholes.

Avril Lavigne looks like just another bimbo with a good image and voice (in a studio of course).

Anybody notice a few people boo-ing Eminem? And then he said "Sorry I had a few anger management classes" when he got his next award?

I never watched it but I read in the paper who won what awards. I'm just happy that Linkin Park won best rock video for 'In the End'  :D I think half the awards went to the wrong people actually. Some people didn't deserve to win what they did. Actually, how do they decide who wins what? Is it the public that vote or something?  :)

And Speli, I have a feeling all of your opinions are what your military father tells you to believe, so I'll let that slide. How f*ckin' boring would this world be if everyone listened to *tries to think of what Speli likes*...Barry Manilow?

I watched it in the uk and I thought it was great. Avril Lavigne is new to us to the uk and I think she's good. I like her song too.

Eminem's and Justin Performance were great. I don't have a problem with rap and hip hop because I'm into that kind of music.

Who that prsenter? is he a film actor or tv star? he was very funny doing Eminem and Enrique Iglesias.

I watched part of the VMAs.  I particularly liked Jimmy Fallon's making fun of nominated songs.  He was right on the money with the Eminem parody:
"This looks like a job for me.  So everybody just follow me 'cos this is your one chance to see some music played on MTV."
MTV hardly ever actually shows good music videos anymore.  That's why I switched to Much Music USA.  :)
There were some highlights, I thought of the VMAs.  I was really happy No Doubt won awards for their "Hey Baby" video.
Did anyone see the member of Nstink who looked like he was gonna cry when they didn't win the award for best pop video?  Me and my sister were cracking up.
I was very happy Linkin Park took the best rock video award, but I wouldv'e liked to see POD take home an award.
Go Dashboard Confessional!  I love emo and they're number one in my book!  Norah Jones would've been a good choice too.
I like Avril Lavigne (Don't shoot me!).  Her "Sk8er Boi" video never fails to put a smile on my face and while her music is pop-punk, it's too angsty to be little kiddish (well, her other songs are angsty).
I turned off the TV after Linkin Park won their award, but I was happy Michelle won the people's choice.  I'm big on chick rock and I don't think she's just another girl who had a guitar stuck into her arms for a video.  She is stuck-up, but I can identify with her lyrics.  And she obviously cares about her music.  Did anyone see how she acted when she thought they broke her guitar?
Anyways, I didn't see anything else, besides the Vines' performance.  But what I saw, I was pleased by.  Except that I think Ashanti should've won for her video "Foolish."  :)

So Eminem antagonized Moby for no real reason during the show, I hear. Personally I'll cheer and laugh till it hurts, the day I hear that Moby has hauled off and knocked Marshal Mathers onto his butt. Assuming Moby ever DOES punch him, that is.

Seriously, I think what's actually happening is the two of them are teamed up. Eminem gets bad boy publicity, Moby gets a mature and patient image promoted.

The very fact that Eminem won anything should prove what a farce these awards are. But then, pretty much every awards show is completely meaningless.

Eminem's ego is getting WAY out of hand, that's all I have to say. The type of rap I think sucks is the type that talks about guns and sex. ie. almost all mainstream rap. Rap groups you don't hear on the radio ('cept for college radio), now those guys rule. Hieroglyphics for example.

Does anyone else find it terribly hypocritical of these teenage fanboys/girls who all jump on the band-wagon and trash various manufactured boy and girl groups, but now that the record companies are giving the same kinds of groups guitars and keyboards, suddenly they're serious musicians? What's the difference between Linkin Park and N'Sync? It's the same damn thing.

Gotta argue there, Ben. The difference between a Linkin Park and an N'Sync is simple. N'Sync is/was designed to appeal to the lowest common denomenator of teenage fan-girls. Linkin Park are musicians that just tend to have a substancial fanbase in the teenager department. Eventually, whatever dorky thing teenagers thought was cool a few years ago only becomes dorky when enough people hate it. (ie, lots of people liked Vanilla Ice when he came out, but eventually it became more cool to not like him.) It's some weird hyper-ironic sense, and I think Eminem is going to have the same thing bite him in the ass.

My three categories of bands.

1. Entertainers.  They don't play their own instruments, don't write their own songs, and in most cases, don't sing their own concerts.  See: Brittney Spears, and any boy band

2. Musicians.  Bands who write their own music and/or play their own instruments.  There are two sub-categories - good musicians and bad musicians.  Creed, Nickelback, the entire hip-hop culture, and manufactured bands fall in this category.  U2, Barenaked Ladies, Dave Matthews Band, some R&B, and most oldies fall in this group.  They write good music and play their own instruments well.

3. Artists.  These are the legends of music.  Timeless, one might call them.  Santana, Grateful Dead, The Rolling Stones - bands that have withstood the test of time and have had their songs ingrained into musical consciousness.  Everybody knows who these people are.

You can't tell me that the existence of Linkin Park/Creed/Puddle of Mudd didn't come about due to some demographic study by the likes of Viacom and/or the RIAA.

If you still believe otherwise, then I've got a couple of documentaries that I think you should watch.
