Any opinions on the upcoming Star Trek series?

Personally I'm much looking forward to seeing some of the old TNG crew back together.

But, it looks like that may be a small part of the show. And, there could be a focus on action sci fi, which I'm not a huge fan of.

It wasn't until the other day that I learned that some of the other ST-TNG cast would be making an appearance. As long as it's thoughtful and entertaining, I'm good. Oh, wait...it's not going to be on CBS broadcast/cable, but only on yet another streaming service? I'll pass.

I just watched the opening episode. It started really well; I'm glad it appears to be an ongoing plot rather than one complete story per episode... I can't wait for the next episode.

When the whole series is out I'm going to break down and pay for the streaming.. I've avoided most spoilers (something I don't usually do), but the few I've heard make me want to see it very much

Im sorry... but so far its being a train crash in slow motion... and is still crashing

Im not a treekie but i can see this is a show made by people who has not seen the main star trek series and only the TNG movies (like the redlettermedia guys pointed out) and that it can work.. if you disregard all the series ,older movies and what was the long build ST universe Picard and Discovery work and you can enjoy them as some sci-fi series..

its also making the very common this days theme of building over the dead body of the past.. they can only think of the base material as stuff to break and ruin to make themselves look more dramatic and interesting..  same as they did with Star Wars

One thing I can say: the TNG movies are more-or-less in the same spirit as TNG itself. The main exception is the fourth movie. But the rest have at their core the same Roddenberry vision that drove TOS and TNG, an optimistic vision of our future.

The remake TOS movies by JJ Abrams are definitely not in this category, in my estimation at least.

For Picard, I'm only an episode in, so I'll reserve judgement. I will say that my favourite part by far was the opening on the Enterprise-D.

Until 1 year ago I did not stop watching my Star Trek series: The Next Generation but well my daughter was born and I have little time to watch it, my husband on the other hand tells me that it is super boring and BLa bla bla but well I do not lend him much Attention because I am going to teach my baby to see it to pass it from generation to generation because I like it for my mother.

The TNG movies are all about how many lifeforms Picard can murder during the runtime, and what appetites for blood, mayhem, and revenge he can satiate.  You can tell they had a lot of fun making them. :D

It looks bad, I don't think i'll bother watching it.

Actually watching Enterprise now which I never finished when it first aired.
Its pretty good, better than I remember and certainly far better than the dreadful star trek Discovery.

Well, for the most part Enterprise didn't really stretch itself until late in Season 3, I don't think. If only the studio management hadn't gone nuts and ST-ENT had gotten the 7-year treatment rather than being killed off :( And having a full seven years of it with the original concept executed, when the show starts off on Earth for a few episodes. Oh, well, if wishes were fishes.

Supposedly Picard had originally planned to avoid bringing back familiar ST-TNG characters but I've really enjoyed them.

And it's a bit wild, but I really like Discovery, too. Looking forward to watching season 3 next month.
