South Park has "been there" for me since my class watched the first series ion a VHS (taped off Sky TV) at school, and this September 14th it's back for a 20th Series, and the second video game follows on on December. Should be a great year!

Just finished a rewatch of the whole run and despite that Oprah Winfrey moment I thought it all stood up very well, there was one moment that stood out, here's a clue to my favourite South Park moment of all time:

I'm hyped for season 20 & The Fractured But Whole; also looking forward to seeing where they go with the PC principal stuff!

The new season is off to a fantastic start.

I really hope it plays out a bit better than the last season ultimately did. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Great first two episodes, especially the second one. As usual, on point satire about people's desire for nostalgia and interestingly realistic view on internet trolling.

Both of Gerald's montages were a delight. Really enjoying this season so far. I know we're only 2 episodes in, but it seems like they've really gotten the hang of this serialised storytelling. :D

Boy, they're really keeping these episode plot synopses vague/simplistic this season.

To be honest, the whole "what's this week's episode going to be about?" thing is pretty redundant now that it's so heavily serialised, anyway, so they can be as vague as they want.

Yeah it make sense that they kind of play down the topic of the week episodes now that they do all the episodes together and there's just way too much stuff to cover that happens when the show's not on the air. That was one of my big beefs with season 17 when they seemed like they almost had to tackle stuff like the Zimmerman issue even though it was already old news

So the final episode of the season is titled "The End of Serialization as We Know It" - a hint to suggest the show will be returning to its old format in season 21?

Sure hope so. It was neat the first try, but gives the episodes way less rewatch value, and on top of that, each and every single one seems to just be filler for the next.

Also, I'm super fucking hyped for Fractured. Man, I could've been playing it this friday... But nope :(

I loved season 20 and the serialisation was a huge part of that.

I expect that they'll go back to standalone episodes but I hope we get more season-long arcs to the extent that season 20 did it in the future.

Decent season premiere if nothing particularly special.

Decent season premiere if nothing particularly special.

This can be applied to every SP season premiere for probably the last decade or so.

It was an okay episode, Cartman having a thousand devices in his room might have been my favourite scene. I'm assuming having him break-up with Heidi is them severing the last tie to the serialization?

Yeah. I think they want this season to be back to standalone episodes, but the season 20 finale didn't tie everything up so this episode was their sort of "damage control" and we'll be completely back to their usual schtick next week.

Although, for the record, I seem to be in the minority who absolutely loved season 20. I thought it was the best thing they'd done in years (which is impressive, because seasons 19 and 18 were good, too).

I quite enjoyed season 21 even if I found it a big step down from the last 3 seasons. I'm in the minority of people (or, at least, vocal people) who absolutely loved season 20.

I like that they didn't make a hard and fast rule of not showing Garrison or not containing any serialised elements, despite what some news outlets reported (without properly looking at context) about the season avoiding politics, etc.

I thought the newest season was fairly weak overall despite some solid episodes, I’d probably place it on about the same level as season 19 in terms of inconsistency and muddled messaging. I’m with you on season 20 though, I enjoyed it quite a bit and thought it was easily their most successful bout of continuity experimentation.

Was just wondering, does anybody still care about this show anymore? I really enjoyed the last 3 or 4 seasons, these seasons in my eyes were the strongest South Park's been since Season 14 or 15. However, I'm sort of enjoying Season 23 so far, admittedly the weed farm stuff is starting to get really old really fast. Love the new intro though. The ManBearPig eps were probably the best thing the show has done since the console wars trilogy. I also loved the big F you they gave to China in the second ep as well. Seeing fingerbang again was such a treat. Other than that, you're not really missing out on much.

Season 22 was a huge step-up in quality, as I find seasons 19, 20 and 21 to be some of the worst the show has ever done.

23 has been meh. The Tegridy Weed stuff was dragged out for way too long, but it looks like they're going back to some more classic South Park stuff in next week's episode! Fingers crossed. :)

This season was pretty good. I'd like to see them do an entire season where each episode is like an episode from a different series like the last few episodes leading up the the finale this season. I agree that the Tegrady Farms stuff had run it's course by mid-season. I'd give it a solid B overall.

Anyone catch the Pandemic Special? It was really good imo, the first time South Park did a good season premiere in quite some time. The face diaper joke surprisingly didn't really get old despite being overused a bit. The whole flashback thing with Mickey though sure did however.... hope it won't be a recurring gag during the season. So it's a good solid 8/10 for me.

An interesting episode, for sure. Seems like season 24 is just going to be composed of hour-long specials rather than the usual 10 episode format?

Also, why did Butters' dad change his mind about wearing masks without any explanation?

Also, why did Butters' dad change his mind about wearing masks without any explanation?

Up until late spring/early summer it seemed like the government was saying masks didn't do anything, and conspiracy theorists were saying it was a government conspiracy to hoard masks. Then it just flipped very suddenly and the government wants you to wear masks and conspiracy theorists think that's a government conspiracy. I thought it was a parody of that shift.

I thought the special was OK. I'm sick of Tegrady Farms.
