Benedict Cumberbatch's character in the new film is being credited as "John Harrison". Not Kahn, nor Gary Mitchell as rumored...

Who the fuck is John Harrison? Hopefully this is disinformation. I am literally angry with anger.

What makes you think that it's James' first time?

Back to Trek, I still am very reserved about Into Darkness. Personally I don't like how they overwrote all of Kirk Prime's actual traits and made him less heroic and definatley [sic] not as powerful of a person in terms of strong William Shatnery personalities. But that's mostly writing, not acting. I'm still waiting for Avery Brooks to come out and say, "We've got a movie gig, and I'm playing this really small part of this Emissary guy who comes back after years of enlightenment. Oh yeah, and the character ended the Abramsverse with his super-awesome Prophet powers."

Like any executive is going to make a DS9 movie. Even if we all want one.

I read somewhere that the DS9 writers contemplated to reveal the whole series took place in Benny's mind during the finale. Intriguing, but that would have royally pissed off TONS of fans...

I know about 3 other DS9 lovers who wouldn't have minded it it too much. Now, in 2012 I think it of being a better idea then I did on the original run. I think they could of made it work pending another season. Especially what happened in mid to late season 7 when Benny was writing on the walls of the Asylum he was held up in

I could never get into DS9 even though I have heard great things about it.  What season should I start if I want to try again?

TNG was the best for me and I did get into Voyager once I got Netflix.

Gotta watch from the beginning. It's amazing to see how all the characters change over time, and especially how much more badass Sisko becomes after he goes bald by choice is another thing to see. Because DS9 is arcing, it's necessary to watch every season for the minute details and choices that become important over time, unlike Mass Effect or TNG.

Well, there's a reason DS9 got 7 seasons and Enterprise didn't. But, ENT is ST so it's infinitely better the Ewoks. You know, that 80's cartoon that made those little beary shits.

DS9 had Avery Brooks, who punched Q, met Kirk, and saved the entire alpha quadrant times over. And now Avery Brooks has a jazz album out, cause he's a classically trained opera singer.

Maybe they'll make it into a musical or blow up Bajor, Qo'nos, Betazed, the and all of the Dominion, and have the Ferengi be behind all of it, where John Harrison is a Ferrengi in disguise.

While I agree with you in spirit, I do not in... body. ...... :O_o:
The notion is that this is Kirk as a younger man, before he'd acquired those traits. It's not a new concept to have Kirk depicted as an arrogant asshat in his youth - quite a few of the Trek novels portray him as exactly that. The real test will be the next movie, if they show him gradually changing into a more Shatneresque figure.

I would prefer to see a new Next-Gen era series, in which the events that sent Spock Prime to the past could be a story arc. We could have appearances from all the major players. Won't happen, except in my 1400-page fanfic.

Wouldn't everyone want to see another DS9/VOY era show? Nope. After Enterprise they were thinking of doing the next show in the year 3000. I'm serious. 3000. Zapp's going to get his own television show!

I would love to see new Kirk. talk. like. this. because. you. know. it's. that. sexy. thing. Shatner. does. when. shatting. on. the. television.

Wouldn't everyone want to see another DS9/VOY era show?

I've thought about this a few times since the end of DS9 and Voyager and the Nemesis feature film, and it would be intriguing. Playing devil's advocate, I think it would be difficult to present new and interesting storylines. DS9 arguably wrapped up the the Cardassians, Klingons and Dominion threads, Voyager pussified the Borg, and Nemesis ended with the Federation and Romulans on the verge of peace. What would they do? Bring out another super-duper bad guy?

Going back to a more "simple" time like Enterprise or the JJ Abrams Kirk era seemed to be the prudent thing to do. So much of those eras weren't fleshed out enough, if only because ENT and TOS weren't given the 7 seasons that the other series had.

I might be in the minority, but I actually liked a lot of what Enterprise had to offer. Sure, alot of the characters were one dimensional, but for my money, the 3rd and 4th seasons were among the highest quality of any of the Treks.

Were the characters one dimensional?  My favorite part was that it got the franchise back to the root of exploration in a realm where anything could go wrong.  It was that cowboy mentality of seeking out the darkness to discover truth.  Plus some of the stand alone episodes displayed interesting topics in scifi, and then the whole time travel story thread was ridiculous, but neat.

Also, more Mirror episodes is always fantastic... duhhhhh!

I think Section 31 would have been a good subject for a series. A Star Trek spy-thriller. Something like Homeland in space. Then you could have some really decent morally-ambiguous characters unlike the usual assortment of goody-two-shoes Starfleet paragons of virtue we normally see. The Federation is a utopia of lofty ideals, so let's see the dark and brutal underworld that keeps it all running.

I would simply title it: Federation.

Spits in the face of everything Roddenbury, but I think the man was rather overrated. Like Ian Fleming. One good idea doesn't make you a God.
