Has anyone watched this new FOX show on Tuesdays called Brooklyn Nine Nine? SNL alumni Andy Samberg is in it and so is Terry Crews (from The Expendables) and Andre Brauer. It's a very fun cop show about these inept officers trying to solve crimes and get the bad guys. It's kind of like Night Court meets Barney Miller.

It comes on after Seth McFarlane's new show Dads.

That's a terribly inaccurate description of the show, but yes, it's great. It's got a fantastic cast, Michael Schur (Parks & Rec) is show-runner, and although "police comedy" is hardly an original concept, this one's taking an angle with it that I haven't personally seen before. Very character-centred and actually treats the police aspect with a certain amount of respect. The officers are HARDLY "inept."

I like the episode where the cops become cops.

Yeah I watched the pilot just a little earlier and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There is an air of Parks and Rec/The Office but it's still a different kind of show. Plus as I understand it will air after New Girl (or before) which for me is a winning combination that I look forward to on upcoming Tuesday nights.

I heard it was being paired up with the latest thing Seth Macfarlane pulled out of his ass, but I guess New Girl could be bookending it on the other side, too. Not that I'm really fussed; never got into New Girl personally.  :hmpf:

BUMP!

We've had the mid-season finale, and holy crap, this show is incredible. It's hitting every damn mark that it tries to, and the cast has had instant chemistry with one another right off the bat. It also struck me that, like Parks & Rec, the show doesn't stall to execute the plot developments that we all know are coming, paving the way for new avenues much sooner down the road.

Everyone watch it, damnit!

I would advise going back and catching up on the ones you've missed, it's been great from the start.

My favourite so far would be a three-way tie between Holt, Charles and Rosa, but the entire cast is pretty damn incredible. :)

I agree Rosa and Holt are probably tied for second, followed by Charles. It's a really good cast.

I also enjoy Gina a lot.

Terry Crews cracks me up because he reminds me of himself in White Chicks, which is a film one of my friends loved for whatever reason, and I just picture her cracking up at him with the whistles and everything...

Yes, anyway, this is a great show.

Scrubs, with cops.

And wit!

I actually think it's near-identical in tone and style to Parks & Rec (which makes sense given Michael Schur's involvement in both); Close-quarters workplace with a cast of roughly the same number, and equally varied personality types, a huge emphasis on character humour, a mix of episodic plots and story arcs (namely where the relationships are concerned), all with a nice "feel good" vibe without ever overdoing the warm fuzziness.

Rosa in particular is basically half-way between Ron Swanson and April.

Hey, it's Beaker!

I've seen the first 3 or 4 episodes of this show so far. I definitely enjoy it, but I haven't fallen in love with it yet. I agree with someone else who said there's a bit too much of a focus on Andy Samberg, at least in the early episodes. I mean, I like the guy, but there can definitely be too much of him, especially in a show like this.

BUMP!

So now this is a Golden Globe winning show, both of which will all but guarantee a second season. I'll be honest and say that I don't think this was really the best show out of those nominations (I think Parks and Rec should have won and Samberg is great in the ensemble but he's not the best actor on the show) but I'm still happy that this is getting recognition. And last week's episode was probably the best one so far.

Haven't seen the new episode yet, but quality-wise, I'd probably rank this pretty evenly with Parks & Recreation. Of course, the latter holds a much stronger place in my heart given how long it's been going now and how well-fleshed-out it's become, but season 1 of Brooklyn Nine Nine is definitely running circles around season 1 of Parks & Rec. :)

Is it just me or is the Gina channeling Carol/Cheryl from Archer?

I can definitely see that, though Carol/Cheryl/Charlene is basically just Kitty from Arrested Development (and not just because it's the same actor).

You're not the only one!

I have watched not one episode of this show, but the above-linked-to article makes me think I ought to start tuning in. I don't like Andy Samberg, like, at all--even his guest appearance in season two of my beloved Parks and Rec falls flat for me--but I'm thinking I'll be able to overlook that.

Yeah, I avoided the show because of Samberg at first. However, when I found out Terry Crews was on the show, I was sold. He's had me since Jerome Mayberry. Pretty much because I enjoy any excuse to watch him flex his pecs.

The post-game episode tonight was one of the funniest episodes and tightly-written episodes thus far. Even though Adam Sandler pops up it's still ridiculous and funny that used Terry Crews and Andre Braugher perfectly.

Re-Bump! Season 2 will be premiering this Sunday the 28th.
Here is a bit of information on the second season, if anyone's interested.

I'm really looking forward to this show's return. Season 1 was excellent, and I'll be happy to have it back. Here's hoping the new timeslot bodes well for it, too. :)

Yeah, the first episode was solid, but episode two was fucking hilarious. I love how much mileage they've been able to get out of just how enormous Terry Crews is. Though this season definitely needs more Hitchcock and Scully. :p

"Hello, Raymond. You're looking old and sickly."
"So nice of you to greet us, Madeline. I thought surely you'd still be crushed under that house in Munchkinland."
"Sticks and stones, Raymond."
"Describing your breakfast?"

I really enjoyed the third season premiere. The show felt like it had a renewed energy after a somewhat underwhelming second season. :)

I'd imagine the Holt thing will play out similarly to Jim's story arc in season 3 of The Office - cutting back and forth between the two groups of workers for the first 7 episodes or so before eventually finding a way to bring them all back together under the same office.

Anyway, I'm really enjoying this season. Season 2 was a tad disappointing, but they've really stepped up their game again in the comedy department this year. I've been laughing pretty much constantly for all three episodes so far.
