Way back in the order up thread, a few of us started making top lists of episodes of anything.

It's sort of interesting to see how episodes of Futurama fit into these lists, so I thought I'd make a thread for it.

Edit: I updated the list to include "Granite State", and also, fuck it, here's 300-101:

Man, I watch way too many shows to be able to make a list like this. Plus, it's really hard to grade a good episode of one show against a good episode of another, they all have different strengths and their own M.O. I mean, how do you rank a brilliant episode of a drama against a brilliant episode of a comedy?

Also, doesn't this belong in the tv forum?

I couldn't make a list like this; I don't watch nearly enough TV and Futurama is the only show that I've seen every episode of. Every other TV show that I enjoyed I eventually gave up on (such as Heroes, which turned into an absolute mess by the third season).

Oh God, I honestly don't think I can make this. I kind of have an idea for how it could go, but it would honestly just take to much time and effort, along with trying to figure how to rate comedy and drama episodes apart. The only thing I'll say is that Futurama would definitely have quite a few episodes on it (around 10-15), with 2-3 in my top 10 (though not my #1 spot).

By all means, go for a top 10 or a top 25 if 100 is too daunting a number to cope with. It's just interesting to see where Futurama ranks alongside other shows.

It was in General Disscussion at first.

Also, I still stand by my statement that it's impossible to rank individual episodes of different shows against one another. Though, for what it's worth, my favourite episode of any television show ever is probably "The Constant" on Lost.

Not sure if I'll get through this, but I'll at least start it.

100.Family Guy: Da Boom
99.Aqua Teen Hunger Force: Invasion of the Mooninites
98.King of the Hill: Pilot
97.The Twilight Zone: Living Doll
96.King of the Hill: The Nut Before Christmas
95.South Park: Raising The Bar
94.The Office (US): Money
93.Futurama: Brannigan, Begin Again
92.King of the Hill: King of the Ant Hill
91.The Office (UK): The Quiz
90.American Dad!: Rapture's Delight
89.Futurama: Future Stock
88.South Park: Make Love Not Warcraft
87.Beavis & Butthead: Cow Tipping
86.The Office (US): Goodbye, Toby
80.Aqua Teen Hunger Force: Revenge of the Mooninites
79.Aqua Teen Hunger Force: Ol' Drippy
70.Beavis & Butthead: Stand-Up Comics (or something like that, this is all coming from memory)
40.King of the Hill: Returning Japanese
30.King of the Hill: Traffic Jam
29.Office (US): Finale
28.Dark Shadows: The One Where They Introduce Barnabas.  I believe it was in the 120's
21.Futurama: Space Pilot 3000
19.Office (UK): Christmas Special
20.Futurama: Anthology of Interest II
10.Futurama: The Late Phillip J. Fry
7.Futurama: Meanwhile
6.King of the Hill: Propane Boom/Death of A Propane Salesman
5.Futurama: The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings
4.Futurama: Jurassic Bark

I wish I could Include movies based on shows because Bender's Big Score, Beast With A Billion Backs, & Beavis & Butthead Do America would all be in.  I'm also surprised by the lack of King of the Hill on these lists, I know a lot of people hate it but I didn't think that I'd be the only fan here.  :hmpf:

I'll probably edit this, and maybe even replace or move some entries, but these are some noteable episodes of my favorite shows.

Easily the best episode of American Dad ever produced. :)

Though isn't it kind of arbitrary though to be putting numbers like 30, 40, 4, 5, etc. next to episodes when the list is incomplete? Shouldn't their position be determined by the ranking of the episodes around them, as opposed to just whatever random number felt right?

I love King of the Hill but, it ran at a very consistent quality for me. Some episodes were definitely better than others, but none were absolutely exceptional to the point that they'd get close to this list. But that doesn't mean that I didn't love the show.

Likewise. As much as I would love to give King of the Hill the recognition it deserves, it's really hard to hand-pick the stand-outs for a list like this.

Anyway, I think I was able to narrow mine down to 50. Now keep in mind there are a lot of shows I absolutely love that I wish I could've put in here, but I had to keep it to things I knew well enough to recall specific episodes of. And I'm positive the order could easily change with time...

50. The Office (US) - Gay Witch Hunt
49. Community - Basic Rocket Science
48. Arrested Development - Let Them Eat Cake
47. Parks and Recreation - The Debate
46. Curb Your Enthusiasm - The Carpool Lane
45. South Park - South Park is Gay!
44. Andy Richter Controls the Universe - Crazy in Rio
43. Party Down - Pepper McMasters Singles Seminar
42. 30 Rock - Governor Dunston
41. Sons of Anarchy - The Sleep of Babies
40. Party Down - James Ellison Funeral
39. 30 Rock - Dealbreakers Talk Show #0001
38. Weeds - Pittsburgh
37. Futurama - Reincarnation
36. Lost - This Place is Death
35. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - Frank's Pretty Woman

Nice job putting "...And the Bag's in the River" near the top of your list cyber_turnip! Funny how the first season of Breaking Bad had some really strong episodes. It was so dramatic, clever and well written that it was the very episode that got me watching Breaking Bad from start to finish. I'd still say it's very close to being the best episode of the entire show for me.

As for my list, I'll post it later when I've finished it for good. :)

Breaking Bad had one of the strongest pilots of any drama I've ever seen (probably on par with the pilot for The Sopranos). Though I'd still rank some of the later Breaking Bad episodes higher, just because by that point, my investment in the show was so high that my reaction was much stronger and the significant moments were hitting me much harder. Still, if I were doing a top 100 list, the Breaking Bad pilot would definitely be on it (and probably Peekaboo, along with Half Measures/Full Measure and Face Off).

Peekaboo is still my favorite episode of the show.

You guys have pointed out most of my other favorite Breaking Bad episodes (Half Measures/Full Measure would probably come next on my list, followed by Ozymandias and the Pilot), but I'd like to submit Phoenix, One Minute, Grilled, and Crazy Handful of Nothin' as some other greats that weren't mentioned in here yet.

Yeah, I understand what Beamer was saying about being more invested in things further down the line, but I try to leave that aspect out of things when I'm judging the episodes in something like this. I think the first three episodes of Breaking Bad are just phenomenal in terms of how they manage to create such emotional investment without having 50+ hours invested in the characters by that point.
Honestly, I really struggle to figure out which is my favourite season of the show because I love season 1 so much, but the excitement of later seasons is far greater because I'm more invested in things. All I know is that season 2 is my least favourite season - but season 2 is fantastic, too.

I feel that season 2 has a pretty big lull in its first half, to be honest. Excluding "Peekaboo", up until "Better Call Saul", it's the slowest and least interesting that the show ever gets.

That's not to say that it isn't absolutely brilliant, but I love the simplicity of season 1.

I don't know. I think Season 3 might be the weakest overall. It only has four outstanding episodes for me. Sunset, One Minute and Half Measures/Full Measure. It also has Fly in it, which is considered by most to be the worst episode of the entire series. Season 2 starts off with two really good episodes but then a slow batch (with the exception of Peekaboo) until Better Call Saul. After that it's all pretty much rock solid. As for Season 1, it starts out with three amazing episodes, then two slow ones, then goes back to amazing again with Crazy Handful of Nothin'. Season 4 is probably the overall best in terms of consistency though, as I don't think it really has any slow episodes, and it ends with three amazing ones right at the end. Just my two cents though. A slow episode is still like an 8/10 for the show.

I'd agree that "Fly" is the show's weakest episode, but I'd still give it 8/10, which is pretty much what you said at the end, there.

That said, I don't really find season 3 to be at all slow. I find that it starts very tense and just builds tension upon tension. I can forgive the one weaker episode because, at least the episode was trying something new and, like I said, I'd still give it an 8/10.

As for overall consistency, I suppose it comes down to if you count season 5 as one season, or see 5A and 5B as separate entities. I'd say that 5B is easily the show's most consistently amazing run, but 5A, is arguably the slowest, least interesting "season".
But then, it's always been a show where seasons start slow and just build and build to an incredible back 9.
