Maybe we'll get to see how Luna and/or Celestia got their cutie marks?

The Journal of the Two Sisters goes into detail about that.

Here's a new teaser trailer:

Personally, I enjoyed the season five animatic more than any of the polished advertisements.

I wonder whether she'll get to levels of crazy that Twilight got when she wanted to stop time.

You were spot-on.

Why aren't you both posting pony pics in all of the threads?  I'm concerned about whether you're true my little pony fans or not. ;_;

Because this isn't an mlp site and we want to be respectful of those that don't want to see pony pics everywhere.

Although this episode has given us lots of fabulous new faces for reaction images...

Yet they still use phrases like 'everypony' in their speech.

I think Discord is part pony. Or has parts of pony... I'm sure that's a pegasi wing...

Discord is a draconequus, but whether that's a distinct species or a horrible, horrible abomination unto the genetics of ponykind is unclear.

For that matter, where did alicorns come from before Starswirl's spell was completed by Twilight?

I'm not sure, but I heard somewhere that Cadence was a Pegasus initially... not sure if just a rumor though.

I think this was confirmed in one book or another, but I haven't read it myself and don't want to Google so I'll just second your guess.

There's one headcanon that Star Swirl created a Frankenstein monster who ended up being Discord. I'm pretty sure it doesn't work with the canon timeline, but it's still an awesome idea.

In TJoT2S, Alicorns are referred to with established aging rates (it takes a lot longer for them to get their cutie marks because they're so long-lived) and it's kind of implied that there's knowledge about Alicorns that at least Celestia and Luna have. The princesses aren't at all confused about their species, even though we never meet other Alicorns, and refer to... eh, I went upstairs and got the book in the middle of typing that. I'm not going to finish the sentence. Here are two quotes that show what I'm talking about. Some spoilers mostly about history and Alicorn/Equestrian culture.

I really hate to triple post, but because I'm struggling to even get to sleep (I had lots of caffeine today, where I normally have little to none). So I'm just browsing thru all the websites and messages, and apparently the newest map episode (the 100th special) is currently airing and I'm seeing spoilers and I swear the entire thing is just pandering to bronies.

... It looks effing brilliant. I'm in stitches just seeing stills of it.

-

Edit:

Now that I'm awake and watched it, I would like to say that it is one of the most random things they've ever done, but it's brilliant in its randomness. I'mma share a few of my fave moments.

(These are in no particular order)

I just realised I'll probably end up posting the entire episode in screenshots so I'll stop there.

The fanservice has gone thru the roof... including shipping?

 Say no more!

This is why I try to avoid spoilers as much as possible.

At first I couldn't believe the episode wasn't just a incredibly well made fan-fic animation, then I concluded that it all must be part of a pre-wedding day nightmare of Matilda. In the end, well… let's just say I'm glad I didn't know anything going in.

Sadly I'm inclined to agree. There's one or two I remember fondly though - Secret of My Excess and Dragonquest, mostly due to Rarity.

Casual racism towards Dragons - hmm, as highlighted in a recent comic if I remember correctly. But yeah, "You're just a dragon, I'm not talking/listening to you, where's the Princess?" Lovely! He doesn't so much exploit being an equal of the Princesses for the day, more the fact that anypony treats him with any respect or patience.

Too many contrivances in the plot there, like, for example, why would nopony allow Spike to say "I'm her personal assistant, I am acting on her behalf, deal with it!"

Also, Cadance tasks him with making sure Twilight is rested, and then when Spike explains what he's doing, she's like "are you sure you're doing this for the right reasons?" it does lead on to the fact that Spike often lets things go to his head - good continuity there - but the conference doesn't fall apart because he goes off and gets pampered, it's because he's explicitly trying to make sure Twilight is not disturbed. How would you have done it Cadance?
Oh, yeah, you would have tried to explain it logically and they would have simply accepted what you said because you're not from an inferior race...

Then at the end: "Here dragon, all is forgiven, have this bouquet of flowers that I've cobbled together from the debris off the floor. It has a pretty flower, you like pretty, don't you?"
...
"Sweet Celestia, you give him flowers and he destroys the statue again!!!"
"What a walking disaster zone!"
"Get that liability out of here!"

I complain, but in truth it's also a great thing - it's a huge boon for the notion that Equestria is not the perfect utopia that the show's premise might imply and the characters are rounded and flawed, leaving room for future development.

There were some other good things about last night - Twilight adorkable-ness was sky high and in relation to last week's episode (wasssssogoood!!! :D ) where background characters were fleshed out, but really their design was largely just variations on a stock pony model, the creativity in the designs of recent side-characters has been really strong and detailed.

They've always been about the toys. That's kinda the whole point in making a tv show. It's just a bonus they now have a large audience.

I enjoyed Rarity month, but Rarity Investigates was the highlight for me, especially the music.

As someone who had assumed that the CMC…

Also I had to chuckle that Diamond Tiara's "Obviously I've known since I got my cutie mark that my talent is getting other ponies to do what I want" means that fate decided her role in life is to be a manipulative bitch! ;)

She learnt not to be a bitch in the ep though. Let's hope next time we see her she's still positive and happy and not mean.

Her resolution reminded me of Sunset Shimmer.

And then in the following ep Cadence and Shining's news (and a tonne of new Pinkie faces)

I don't think I've laughed that hard during an episode since Castle Mania.

It seems a lot of fans like this one but I was decidedly underwhelmed.

If they really had to have a magically hyper-competent antagonist then re-purposing a previous villain who was threatening only because of a magical artifact she possessed seems a rather lazy way to go.

 2) As for the premier my overriding impression is: best Spike episode ever?

The Gift of Maud Pie

Why couldn't Rarity just make a rock pouch for Pinky?   :O_o:

Because then it would be a gift from Rarity to Pinkie to Maud.

Although, to be fair, Pinkie could have bought a rock pouch from Rarity (provided Rarity could make one by the end of the day without access to her materials and workspace). This assuming, of course, that Rarity wouldn't also want a party cannon as payment.

I liked how, in the latest episode A Hearth's warming tail, they showed a unicorn levitating several small items who had to put them down before she could used her magic to open a door.

It's such a small little detail but it's nice to see that they even think of those sorts of details.
