What are your favourite "Cartman and Butters" episodes? Mine are AWESOM-O and The Death of Eric Cartman. Casa Bonita ae well, if that counts.

Eh, "Super Fun Time" is OK, but it doesn't hold a candle to the likes of "The Death of Eric Cartman", "Casa Bonita" and "AWESOM-O" - the latter two of which are easily among the best episodes of the show ever produced.

Basically, those three episodes for me, too.

AWESOM-O is one the best episodes the show has done by far.

Yeah, my vote also goes to Casa Bonita and Awesom-O. The former is more well-plotted, but the latter is a tad funnier.

That was good fun. A lot of laughs, and Cartman's dream was one of the best animation sequences they've had in a while. My only complaint is that they didn't wrap it up very well, the ending was funny but didn't mean a whole lot.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if they were originally intending it to be a two-parter but bailed on that idea late in production. Really funny episode, though. Was also nice to see some stuff from the season premiere carry over... Except when the hell did Butters burn down the gym?

It'd be awesome if they continue carrying stuff over into future episodes for the whole season, but I won't hold my breath.

Well, at the very least, they've set up a future Butters episode for sometime later this season. I doubt they'll ever go full-on serialised (they were seriously contemplating this idea at the mid-point of season 15 and abandoned it pretty quickly), but I wouldn't put it past them to carry on the occasional plot point throughout the season, much like they did in season 6.

I thought that was one of the best episodes they've done in a while! I laughed so many times, such as when the USDA guy's dick shot off, Cartman frantically calling Kyle on his phone & on the radio, Stan slamming his head on the table and Jimmy's comment about the party when Cartman enters his dream.

The dream sequence was pretty awesome and I love that they had hard continuity and references to the previous episode, something South Park rarely if ever do. Great episode.

I liked that the plot basically continued from last episode. The ending could have been better, but all in all episode was good. The best part was the "It turns out it was a set up... oh, never mind."

Only "oh, never mind" was said in far fewer words, which made it even funnier. :laff:

I keep wanting to say it was the best episode in a while but then I keep remembering that the Black Friday trilogy were three of the most recent episodes.

Ignoring that trilogy, though, and possibly ignoring "The Hobbit", it was the best episode in a long, long time.

Interesting, there is still continuation. I like how much plots were connected (and how it all came down to toilets) and reference to Breaking Bad fitted well in with story.

I'd be surprised if they haven't mapped out the connections they'll be using, roughly, from the start of this season, as opposed to it just being that they happened to produce three episodes that sort of continue on from each other through chance.

Anyway, I enjoyed that. I'm really quite impressed with this season so far. The last two episodes have both been really good by modern South Park's standards and the first one wasn't bad. In fact, I'd say it's the strongest opening three episodes that the show has had since season 14, the last season I really loved. Maybe they were just a bit overworked with The Stick of Truth, last year, and this year, they've been able to devote more attention to the actual show.

They're definitely making a conscious effort to serialise the show this season, though I wouldn't go as far as to say they have the whole thing "mapped out." Matt and Trey have never worked that way in the past when doing multi-part episodes and story arcs, not to mention this week's episode was largely put together in response to an article that was released after last week's episode.

Either way, I'm absolutely loving the serialisation - it makes the series feel so... revitalised. The fact that all 3 episodes of this season so far have been hilarious certainly helps, too. Here's hoping they keep it up for at least the rest of the season (both the serialisation and the current quality level). :)

Interested to see where they go with this. Timmy's handicar seems inspired by his role in "The Stick of Truth" imo. Also odd to see them randomly return to the crippled summer camp & Nathan and Mimsy.

I've really enjoyed the latest season so far. I mean the first episode was just a big bag of meh, but everything afterwards is great, it feels like the South Park crew is really starting to get back on their feet.

Then again, they are only making 10 episodes a year now so go figure... :p

That was a great episode, the entire Wacky Races thing worked really well. Random points:

  • My only disappointment with the Wacky Races part was that there was no Hybrid in the race, that would have been a nice callback to season 10.
  • The show's timeline seemed a bit messed up, every season of South Park is set in the year that it airs in, but Mimsy says Nathan was raped by a shark "last year." The episode with the shark aired in 2010, though?
  • I'm guessing this episode is this year's "episode without any of the main boys," like Goth Kids 3. Maybe that's a thing they're going to do once a season now?
  • Matthew McConaughey getting sucked into a wormhole has to be a reference to Interstellar, right? :laff:
  • There wasn't a lot heavy continuity in this one, only Randy playing guitar and singing "I am Lorde!" for a brief moment. I suppose the callbacks to summer camp and the shark incident count as continuity, though. Just hoping they don't drop that streak of running continuity we've had so far this season.

Eh, I thought it was a big load of meh, to be honest. Watchable enough but a big let down after the previous three episodes and I'm annoyed that they basically completely gave up on the continuity thing they've been doing here. I have a feeling that they'll pick that back up with the next episode, but that's almost more annoying than if they didn't bother.

It wasn't actively bad, but... bleh.

It was definitely the weakest episode of the season so far, but I still really enjoyed it. The jokes/comments about the taxi industry were dead-on, and particularly funny to me seeing as I worked in that industry for 4 years. The Wacky Races stuff went completely over my head, though it was still somewhat amusing seeing the adults watching it in their pajamas. At any rate, it was certainly better than most of the handicapped kids' episodes (seriously, Crippled Summer was fucking awful).

I'm also hoping the serialisation continues. The Lorde callback was nice, though I'd prefer much more (especially given that they seem to have set up a Butters episode with the mentions of his suspension and subsequent return, only to not follow through with it at all) as it really added a new sense of excitement to the previous episodes... I wouldn't be surprised at all if South Park just continues in a somewhat more serialised fashion but continues to churn out the occasional stand-alone episode like this, which I'd be more than happy with.

It makes sense there wasn't much continuity as there wasn't main characters either. But I'm glad to see this was still pretty good.

I thought thing with Butters might have been him going overboard with leaving the school as a joke in the background, but an episode about it would still be interesting.

QNF is probably right; I saw a few people on other message boards suggest it was Butters' way of leaving the school, perhaps being tricked into burning down the gym by Cartman, or doing it whilst under the guise of Professor Chaos.

I too, however, would like them to address it a bit more or go into detail behind it at some point.

Get with the times, QNF! That leaked back in January. :p

Though, seriously, it's pretty great. Apparently someone found the file uploaded on South Park Studios - it just hadn't been linked to anything. I wouldn't mind betting they actually had it on there for quite a while and were just waiting for someone to find it. Seems like the only way they could've actually gotten it out there.

I would have bought season 14 (I stopped buying the seasons after 11) had "200" and "201" been included - even if it was the horribly censored "201". I'm not buying it till they put the episodes on it.

And I didn't realise that had leaked, despite it being months ago, so thanks QNF. It's nice to finally have closure by seeing it - and it's pretty amazing that they censored that. I mean, they obviously just did it because it outright mocked them for giving in to terrorism in the first place, but still... the whole thing leaves me sour.

Eh, I imported the American versions of seasons 1-10 because they weren't readily available here at the time of release, but I just can't be bothered with that any more.

I mean, on season 10, I paid the cost of the set in America and then I had to pay a further £10 or so in import tax (that's about $15, I think). Import taxes suck.

I just don't feel like I should have to go around the system to buy something that will only play on my one specific DVD player when they should be going out of their way to stop me from illegally downloading everything for free. I kind of just felt like Viacom didn't deserve that sale if they were going to be so shitty about things.

I import region 1 whenever I can because I hate the speed-up that occurs in conversion to PAL. It's particularly noticeable in animated shows when all the voices are higher in pitch.

I also find it much cheaper to import (DVDs are about twice as expensive here, even after you factor in the shipping costs - plus, the shipping cost is virtually nothing if you purchase DVDs in bulk and get them shipped together, which is what I usually do), though Western Australia is also a notoriously expensive place to live. :hmpf:

Speaking of which, I finally got season 17 on dvd earlier this week! :D

Ordering in bulk will hit you with a shit-tonne of import taxes in the UK.

The UK is particularly nobbish with stuff like this, but basically, you'll end up, at least, doubling the cost of the things you buy thanks to import taxes, and that's not accounting for the shipping costs.

I went to America back in 2006 and bought huge amounts of DVDs, then, as I'd avoid shipping and tax charges. I usually only bothered to import DVDs of things that weren't available in the UK and weren't going to be available in the UK for the foreseeable future.

And I only really bothered to do all that because it was harder to download things online back then. Nowadays, I just tend to download things and then buy them on DVD/blu-ray when they become available here. As far as I'm concerned, season 14 still isn't available here, so I'll stick with my downloads. I mean, "200" and "201" were the two highlights of that season for me and the main reason I'd be buying it in the first place.
