I hope some people wont hold this against me (too much) but then again, this is a question that nearly all europeans ask each other every dang year.  ;)

Who _should've_ won the Eurovision song contest?

Discuss  :D

I think Malta lost because it doesn't have as many neighbours as Latvia has - do you see where I'm going with this?

The amount of votes that were just given away to neighbouring countries undermined the some of the show in my opinion.

It has always been political, Cyprus and Greece always give each other top marks as an example.

I didn't watch it, I have on some previous years, but I almost barfed. Really it's rare for anyone to deserve to win because the songs are so crap. Not only that, but like Tweek said, it's not based on talent, it's about which countrys like each other.

So, who did win anyway?

All I know is Denmark came in last, and people here had been hyping themselves into believing it had a chance to go into top-5!  :laff:  :nono:

I didn't actually see many songs but I saw all the points given out - so I can't really say whether I thought Latvia deserved to win - I didn't like it that much though...

Having seen it, the best songs were from UK, Malta and Sweden. Since you can't vote for the country you live in, I would vote for Malta.

While some of it is political voting, Latvia's song must have had something special to it because it consistantly got top marks even from western europe countries. Personally though I thought that song SUCKED!

Hilarious moments: Cyprus giving Greece and its robot dancers 12 points!
Germany's entry - why do they bother? Ever year I swear Germany just take the piss.

Did anyone see the Belgian candidate? No? Phew.  But Russia even sucked more.

Britain tied with Estonia who I think were probably there because no one really had the heart to say they didn't like it after all the Estonian effort that had been put into the show.

Sour Grapes I know.

I'm glad we didn't win, the winner has to waste money hosting the next one  :p

Yeah. Apparently Estonia nearly went bankrupt cos they had to host it. Ireland have also spent a lot of money cos i think they have had to show it 4 times in 10 years.

That Father Ted episode was classic!

Do they have something like a song contest in the USA, but like a singer from each state or something?

i personally thought that france should've won. that song was really something, you could literally feel it flowing through you (ooh am i poetic now?   :D.)

Latvia's song was very typically and totally average IMNSHO, i think that Malta's song was much better (something about it just seemed....cute.. in a way   :D.)

Most of the papers in my country, sweden, thought that we would end up fighting over the victory and voila, we ended up at 8:th place...
jeees.

France's song stood out too. My top 3 would be:

Malta
UK
France in that order.

And yep, the winner loses so much money having to host the next one which is why Ireland after a while started fielding crappy songs, and then got kicked out last year for coming in the bottom 5. Maybe that is why Germany keep fielding terrible songs.

I think the songs were worse than ever  :hmpf: but next year it'll be better, when Norway's there again  :p just kidding. Norway are alway b-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-d

Malta! That was totally unfair on Malta. Estonia and Lithuania and Russia would always give Latvia top points, but the only ones to give Malta top points areCyprus and UK. By the way, the UK song was a big improvement on previous years.
