I don't understand why everyone is all shocked (at least through my circle of fb friends) about Disney taking it over. Disneyland already boasts Star Tours, one of their more popular and well known attractions, so they already make globs off money off the star wars people (including the well stocked star wars store it leads into). I was more amused by Lucas' reaction to everyone, something like, 'I said I would never do it again, I didn't say no one else could' :laff:

And those who don't want to see the franchise ruined - hasn't it already been ruined by the mass marketing campaign and pandering to every woman, man, and child of all ages?

If Disney bought all the rights does that mean there could be an official release of The Star Wars Holiday Special? :evillaugh:

Well, that would be fun just to watch Lucas squirm. Also, if they have the rights will they give in to fan pressure and actually release the unfucked up original cinematic releases of Star Wars, TESB and ROTJ?

Considering the hash that was made of the prequels, I am - cautiously optimistic.

Make the Heir To The Empire trilogy into movies!

Fifth..

But that ain't gonna happen..

We all tought Lucas was going to at least base on UE sources in the new trilogy..  he utterly went over them .. why would disney even remotely use those books to make new movies...

Heir to the Empire mean recasting everyone.  Is there room in your hearts for a Han Solo played by Ryan Gosling, Luke Skywalker by Shia LaBouf and Princess Leia by Megan Fox?

Well.. they did it with Star Trek ... they did it (not exactly and way diferent scenerario granted) in Galactica..

People has acepted that the main classic cast is gone... and its almost impossible (unless they go spin-off style) to do an ep VII withut recasting someone.even if they pretend it to be 30 years later.. Carrie Fisher is too wasted.. Harrison Ford is a super star meaning tons of cash.. and Mark Hammil has deleted Star Wars from his C.V so i think he wont want to begin again... Even Danis Lawson (Wedge, aka : Ewan McGregor's uncle) refused to make a cameo in Ep.III

Javier's right. It's just about thirty years since ROTJ, and the original cast are not suited to playing the characters any more. Recasting would have to be done very carefully though...

Wich is spin-off style...  its definitily possible but i think the wide audience wont accept it.. they acepted the prequels but only because it explained the direct origins of Darth Vader and it had classic characters on it (Obi Wan, Yoda, Vader, Palpatine , C3PO and R2..

I dont think anyway Disney would even respect the classic visual style, like Lucas did they would reinvent all new ships , they would make a new Death Star like threat (after all the Death Star was the main motivator in most of the classic trilogy) ... Lucas did it despite some assets being suposed to be arround in the prequel area (Victory class destroyers wich are esentially scalled down Imperator destroyers ... Z-95s wich were the precursos of the X-Wing , even there was suposed to be a TIE Fighter series before the classic TIE L/N (standard TIE) ...
hell , the end of Revenge of the Sith was scripted originally as be a standard Imperator destroyer with TIE fighters (in the death star scene)... but then Lucas retreated and ordered it change to a Venator class with V-Wing fighters (still keeping the TIE sound effects) because "The empire will have 19 years to design and built those ships"... well George the empire had 19 years too to build a Death Star that acording to your own sources needed like 5-6 years to build (3 for the second) and that didnt stoped you to show its basic structure complete right after RoTS didnt it...

sometimes i love how he contradicts himself even in a single scene

I don't think a whole new continuity would be a bad thing for the upcoming sequels.  I imagine that the chances are pretty good that the only people who'd really care about the plot of the post-Jedi canon will be super-nerds that are going to be disappointed with a film version of it anyway.  'Twas ever thus.  Lord of the Rings super-nerds seem to be the most vehement critics of the Peter Jackson movies, so, even if the new Star Wars sequels are pretty good takeoffs of the books, super-nerds will still end up being alienated.

The same would go for the prequels, too.

Bingo.

Three words: Viqi Shesh, Yuuzhan Vong collaborator.

Thrawn is the obvious suggestion, so I'm going avoid the road apples behind that bandwagon and suggest a three-part Yuuzhan Vong-Viqi Shesh villain arc. I enjoyed the way that played out... when I was fifteen years old and idolised suicide.

So Michael Arndt is gonna write Star Wars Episode VII?  Well, it can only be better than George Lucas.

But they sure are doing what they can for being just as bad as Lucas.

Quote
However, Vulture reports that 'the studio’s brass want to bring back the three central characters of the original Star Wars: a much older Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo. No deals are in place with any of the original actors, though our source did say it had high ambition to sign up Mark Hamill, and EW recently reported that Harrison Ford was open to the idea of returning'.

Yeah, because that is exactly what I wanted.

Consider all rumors as bullshit..

I have eard the rumors about bringing back the original cast... and recently that
Darth Vader would be back in Ep VII ...  its simple: the script has not even began to be writen yet ..at best they are still selecting the writers.. so there is nothing..

We had this crap too back in the prequel days (AAAHHH , i feel so old talking about the prequels as "those days in the past"... but again.. if they release Ep VII in 2015 and keep the traditional 3 year gap .. i will be 42 when ep IX airs ...  :( ) many unfounded rumors ..
i renember when Ep II and III each was close to release there was thar persistent rumor that a love triangle between Padme, Anakin and Obi Wan would be the detonator for Anakin falling into dark side..

I bet that Senator Binks will have hardly aged a day...

Emperor Binks

Well some sources stated he was 3 years old in Ep I ... only that Gungans matured very fast.. i guess same bullshit as to put Ahsoka as being 14 but dressing her "adultish" alleging that "her race matures fast and 14 is like 18"...  if you do that why you dont make her 18 ... ooooh .. that would be less apealing to kids...
Again same mistake as i have said.. they try to apeal to all publics at once and end up failing all the same
