I checked to make sure this one hadn't been made yet, but didn't search greatly in-depth... but I searched pretty good. Surprised this thread hasn't been created yet.

Anyway, mine is The Empire Strikes Back.

No.  It was not.  What was surprising?  That the writer couldn't write plots?  We realised this during Episode I and II.

I'd rather have her working on them than George Lucas.  Say what you want about "In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela", but it is not Star Wars prequel level of badness.

The best: ESB
I consider ep3 enought good and still it has deep hole of crap on it.. but only for the fall of the republic and final scenes is worth it..

I don't prefer it... and that video was hilarious.

Episode 3 will never be as good as the original trilogy, but at least now, all of the battles are story-based rather than just for looking cool like in Clones or especially in Phantom Menace. I loved it... but whenever they had romantic dialogue it brought it down, and instead of making Darth Vader cool again they gave him: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ooooooooooo!"

But it's still better than I or II. Anyone can admit that.

Empire is far and away the best, and to my mind, the only one that can be considered a 'great' film on its own merits.

This is how I'd rank the six of them:

1. The Empire Strikes Back (great)
2. Star Wars (great sci-fi/fantasy film, decent film in general)
3. Return of the Jedi (mediocre)
4. Revenge of the Sith (mediocre)
5. Attack of the Clones (bad)
6. The Phantom Menace (awful)

This is how I would rate them.

1. The Empire Strikes Back (great, 5/5)
2. Star Wars (great 5/5, just not as entertaining or mindblowing as 5)
3. Return of the Jedi (great 4.5/5)
4. Revenge of the Sith (good, redeemed the whole prequel trilogy, 3.5 or 4/5)
5. Attack of the Clones (okay, Christopher Lee was great and Yoda was awesome, 2/5)
6. The Phantom Menace (abysmal, 3 words: Jar Jar Binks, 0.5/5)

Empire Strikes back is amazing and although it may be a cliche now back than Darth Vader being Luke's Father was one of the biggest plot twists of all time. Jedi is good also because of slave costume Leia ;)

Oh no, I voted for the wrong one! I voted for the first one on the poll thinking it would be A New Hope, but of course with the blasted prequels that took place before, my logic of oldest one made first is out the window. God damn those shitty prequels!...

I voted Revenge of the Sith because a.) it's almost as good as the originals and b.) I haven't seen it a million billion times like the originals.

If we're looking at it completely objectively, I'd have to go with Empire. It is really a beautiful movie, and I think the visuals hold up better today compared to A New Hope and Return of the Jedi.

Prequels are underrated. I'd say Attack of the Clones was the only bad one.

Haven't seen 'em because they are just too long. I've heard they are funny and I think I would enjoy them, but seriously...if you can't tell me that a movie sucks in five minutes or less, you're just not trying hard enough.

If I'm in an analytical mood, I can admit that the movie had a lot of suck. But meh...it's still entertaining enough for me. It's probably not something I would pay to see again today, but when I come across it while flipping around on TV I'll usually watch it.

I think, in my old age, my love of Star Wars has morphed from loving the story and badass action elements to loving the art design and imagination/creativity of it all. (This is probably why I continue to watch the Clone Wars cartoon even though some of the stories have been eye-rollingly bad. The animators do a great job of expanding on Ralph McQuarrie's artwork.)

I think The Phantom Menace is extremely successful in that regard. Lots of great designs, lots of great locations. The acting is spotty and there is some weak writing, but the plot overall is solid enough and (for me) it is fun to watch.

Attack of the Clones and Return of the Jedi were unsuccessful in that regard. They both lacked fresh designs and had mostly boring settings, plus I think they both had the weakest scripts anyway.

A New Hope and Empire are the best of both worlds, with great designs and also legitimately good writing and directing.

No, the point of them is to be long.  They are supposed to be small films themselves.  That's the entire idea.  It's just a review.  It's supposed to be entertainment in itself.  And it is; great entertainment.  I have personally watched all of his reviews 5 times each.

In addition, they are a very analytic piece of work about what you should not do when making films or doing general storytelling.

And if you don't like watching the first review in pieces on YouTube, it is available in one piece:

I still like the original (Star Wars: A New Hope) best.  I saw it in Westwood Village (in Los Angeles), back in 1977 when it first came out, and I've enjoyed the story a lot more than the others.

Anyway, I often get asked this question, and it's impossible for me to answer. But I will say I love 5, 6, and 3 the most.

I love all Star Wars. Soooo tired of the constant prequel bashing...

I've so far not seen any of the prequel movies.  At first this was because I was simply uninterested and had no desire to go out of my way to see them, the same reason I didn't buy into any of the the non-canon stuff.  These days, however, I actively select against the prequels.  For example, if I'm at work on a Sunday night, and the only things on are infomercials, any or all of the prequels, and something on VH1, I'll just turn the TV off and read something online.

That being said, ESB is probably my favorite.  It's not as flashy, zoomy, or explody as the first or third movies, but it is a better story.

I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the concept of a "star wars holiday special".   I haven't seen it; someone who has, please explain this to me.  Yoda puts tinsel on an XMAS tree?  Luke & Leia roast chestnuts over an open fire?
