Looks like the site's just trying to turn an off-hand comment into a news story. "Not knowing what the deal is with season 6" is completely different to "not knowing if I will be returning." At no point in her quotes does she indicate the latter.

Wait, online journalists mislead people like that? I am shocked and appalled!

To semi-quote Britta Perry, "this [article] reeks of moral ambiguity."

It seems to be stringing together a series of mostly-true sentences in order to concoct an untrue article in the hopes of generating hits and ad revenue.

Besides, contracts were signed on June 30th. It's too late to not know now unless if one side is breaking their contract.

I'm sure Britta would get it wrong too, but it's "reeks," not "wreaks."

Yeah, I wasn't thinking it was anything major. There's at least one other article with the same story, but they're probably cashing in on the fear that Alison will "pull a Donald" some twitter followers have.

Hopefully they'll wrap everything up this next season since it looks like everyone is getting offered bigger roles and might not be able to commit to a seventh season or a movie

I'd still like the show to go out with six seasons and a movie, just for sheer fan-pleasing prophecy fulfillment.

Yeah, I agree with you both. I want season six to wrap it up, and the movie take place between seasons four and five. That way it could have Chevy and Donald back.

In other news, I was delighted to hear that Joe and Anthony Russo will be directing the season premiere together.

It would be entirely too bizarre to set a feature-length theatrical movie in the past of the show's timeline. Are you serious?

Besides, Donald Glover isn't written out of the show for good and it's been implied that he might still return, so I would be very surprised if he didn't agree to be a full-time player in the movie should it come to fruition. As for Chevy Chase...well, that's a different story. Obviously he's dead in the show, although they could easily find ways to have him show up anyway, either as a spirit (the show has done weirder things), in flashbacks, or hey, maybe he faked his own death and has a reveal halfway through? I mean, that wouldn't be out of character for Pierce. The real question though is whether Chevy Chase would even agree to be involved, and it seems like there's a strong possibility he wouldn't.

Actually, somewhat.
I've seen other people suggesting it, and I could see a story working out. Did they ever establish exactly how much time had passed between the seasons? As for Pierce faking his own death - again, I think they put the nail in the coffin* with Abed's attempt to retrieve that tracking device.

Every season covers a year of college (generally with the mid-semester break inserted during the mid-season break, though the shorter episode orders of seasons 4 and 5 kind of messed with that a bit). I'd imagine season 5 would've followed suit and started at the the beginning of the following college year, even if none of them were studying at the time.

I recall reading that Dan Harmon wants to start off Season 6 with the characters talking about how something really awkward happened over the summer, without ever saying exactly what happened. And then the movie is all about that awkward summer thing.

Although that premise would preclude Troy and Pierce's return and Dan Harmon & Co. are making things up as they go along, anyways.

Yes, that's what I assumed at first, but that would mean Jeff ran his business to the ground while Britta, Annie, Troy, Abed and Shirley would've graduated and gotten jobs or whatever during the course of the summer. Perhaps the season starts off in January like it aired? I still can't recall if any dates or such were ever specified.

It may not have been a far-fetched recollection/suggestion then.

Well in that situation it would be deliberately set up by the show with the intent already understood beforehand, so that the whole idea could be fleshed out with the movie and 6th season interlocking in cool ways.

Not quite the same as if they set the movie between seasons 2 and 3 with no previously established explanation, forcing us to put everything that happened in the show after that point out of our minds. That would be awkward and pointless.

Also, as Scrappylive pointed out, Harmon's idea would still presumably leave out the possibility of Pierce being there.

Reading that article, I understand and support her decision, but this is very unfortunate news.

Including Jonathan Banks, four prominent actors have left the show. I believe this show is strong and malleable enough to handle such changes, but still... Wow.

It will. They would've no doubt had some contracts down before announcing its return.

Anyway, this is unfortunate news, though I honestly don't think it'll impact the show as much as, say, Troy's departure did. Shirley has been criminally underutilised for quite a while now, and she's still said that she's open to return in a recurring guest star capacity.

I'd also expect Troy to at least make an appearance at some point, seeing as how his storyline only had him leaving for one year. Seems like him and Harmon are still on friendly terms with one another, too.

 :hmpf:
Pretty much going to repeat what Beamer said. She's had no real story for a while. We only got to know in the season five premiere that she was separated from Andre or something like that. My first thought was that with her gone, this might basically just be the Jeff-Britta-Annie love triangle show observed by Abed.
If Shirley were to make an apperance it would probably be with as much story as she had the entire last season.

Quote
One is described as a woman who's brought in as a consultant to help shape up the school. The other is a retired salesman who comes to Greendale to reinvent himself

This sounds like the show will be stuck in an endless attempt to make Greedale better. Season five ended with Greendale being "saved".

Harmon does actually seem really optimistic these days

I think it would be neat if they committed to another location. Season 1 was essentially exclusively at Greendale. Season 2 introduced a couple new locales, including restaurants and apartments, but it was still mostly at Greendale. Season 3 went off campus still more, though that was in part due to the story arc wherein the Greendale 7 was expelled. Season 4 went off campus more and introduced more locales. The study group graduated at the end of Season 4, so Season 5 would have been the logical step to bring us to a new committed location. Season 5 stayed mostly at Greendale, however.

I certainly wouldn't want them to ditch Greendale, but I think it would be neat to see a new home for the central characters. I guess they have Troy/Abed/Annie's apartment, but that always felt secondary and most other locations have only been cisited once or twice.

At this point they might as well have Jeff fuck the Dean if they want to do anything unexpected

Well, they did have the Dean move in next to Jeff, a plot point that has barely been utilized.

Oh no, don't you go and make this happen as well!  :p

Scrappylive: We know that Harmon wanted to move them out of Greendale gradually. Season 5 was at the school because they felt the characters needed to get back to their roots. I think we'll see season 6 take them somewhere else despite what the casting description states.

Lambda: Good insight. :)

Quote from: That TV Guide article posted by ~FazeShift~
Writing is already underway, and the production has found a new home (having been displaced from its longtime stage on the Paramount lot): The CBS Studio Center in Studio City, Calif.

Wouldn't this make it more feasible to have a guest appearance of Pierce? (It could be a dream, flashback, hologram, revelation of a faked death, etc.)

Pierce's cameo in the Season 5 premiere was made a hologram because his departure included an agreement wherein he would not be allowed on the Paramount lot anymore. But the show is no longer on the Paramount lot, so that hurdle has presumably been eradicated.

Obviously, there's the well-publicized drama between Chevy and Dan, including Chevy saying the show isn't funny (Chevy's love to perform physical comedy was rarely emphasized on this character-based comedy.) Regardless, he did have that cameo in Season 5 and I read in a Harmon interview that when Dan texted Chevy about the idea of a cameo, Chevy excitedly agreed. So, despite all of the negative publicity, they obviously don't hate each other; they and their creative juices just don't jive well in more long-term, close quarters.

I mean, that's my theory, anyway.

I'd be amazed if they didn't get them back for the movie.

I mean, the main reason they left is because of scheduling and it's a lot easier to schedule a film around the requirements of people than it is an entire TV season.

That would be great. It's not as clever as the previous idea of setting it in-between seasons 5 and 6, that obviously doesn't appear to be on the cards any more, but it also sounds like it might make for something more enjoyable.

I never liked that premise of setting it between seasons because that would make it near-impossible to enjoy by anyone other than hardcore fans. It's already bound to be full of in-jokes and callbacks that will make that hard enough without being a continuity nightmare as well.

I still care as well, although I'm basically only checking twitter these days.
If they actually can get a season 1 feel this time around with their extended budget and all, it can be really good.
There's also been a rumour going round that Chevy will make an appearance again since he did his AMA on reddit. He mentioned he has recorded a cameo, and then the debated started whether he meant the one in season five or not. He is aware of being killed off though.

Interesting panel recap.

Anyone interested out there?

A season six poster has been released.

There's also been a lot of promotional material in general by Yahoo, including season recaps, an ARG recently leading people to gifs presumably from the new season, not to mention Community is now sponsored by Honda.

In general I have high hopes about it still beeing good Community. The budget increase looks noticable, and considering the last production day is after March 17th, maybe, just maybe, the season will be prolonged.
