The pairings should've stopped after season one

Troy dating Britta was pointless...

Chalk it up to the gas leak.

Don't blame it all on a gas-leak year!

Anyhoo, I recognize my bias as a non-shipper, but I agree that the pairings should've stopped long ago. It was still season 1 when Abed noted that the study group had become as incestuous as the cast of The Brady Bunch and Pierce noted (with an ulterior motive, albeit), that Britta was "making her way around the table."

Yeah having a boring comedy come out of a comedy you know is capable of being brilliantly funny is very bad.

The Troy and Britta plot wasn't half as bad as them keep trying Jeff rotating between Britta and Annie

I'd agree with that. Any scenes of Jeff's "chemistry" with Annie were a lot more boring and pointless in my opinion (except when they were poking fun at it, which to be fair they did a lot).

At least Troy and Britta had kind of an interesting dynamic as a couple - they're both very stupid, but also each more mature than the other in different ways - even if it was executed poorly most of the time.

Eh, I think the age difference is about the same as April and Andy on Parks & Rec, and no one really seems to have a problem with that.

Though, as Josh said, the Jeff/Annie thing largely existed to satirize the concept of shippiness. Last episode of season 5 aside, I don't think Harmon ever planned to go anywhere significant with it.

I probably won't catch it this time around, and I hope they focus more on new seasons than rushing to make a movie in order to fulfill the "six seasons and a movie" prophecy, but it's still a cool story and I'm happy for the fans

Wow. And according to that link, Hulu had made an offer when Sony approached Hulu, but then Yahoo! approached Sony with an even better offer.

Another surprising fact is that Yahoo Screen is apparently a free streaming service that has existed for eight years. Who knew?

As for whether or not they seek to fulfill the prophecy, why not both? Six seasons, a movie, then some more seasons after that. So long as we keep our glorious, harmonious overlord.

Here's a pretty interesting article about Sony shopping around, and they, at least he, seem to be very optimistic, again even suggesting the possibility of seasons post-movie.

Personally I feel six seasons aren't as impressive, when they shorten the number of episodes, but I welcome more as they seem to keep their budget.

I'm happy, but confused. What sort of budget will Yahoo be able to afford (if they supposedly beat Hulu's offer, then apparently a decent one)? Yahoo Screen is a free service? How do they expect to see a return on this investment? Merchandise? Stakes in a theatrical movie?

They actually said that the offer was so generous that they can keep their network-sized budget. (See the link provided by Beamer above.)

As for a return on investments, they also said that they are trying to bring in Community as a cornerstone of the service. Perhaps this is a move where they will lose money on Community and hope to gain it back by increasing their audience size in the long run. I've never used Yahoo Screen, but I'm guessing it is supported by ads.

Yeah, community was never a super lucrative show, but it has a dedicated fan base and name brand recognition, so a pretty smart move on yahoo

So, an article I read a while back stated John Oliver won't be back because of his talkshow, Jonathan Banks probably won't either, seeing as he has a new show and Andy Bobrow, writer of "Mixology Certification" and one of last season's best episodes "Introduction to Teaching" has apparantly left the writing staff to work with other things.

I couldn't tell if it was pure speculation, but the same article refered to an interview with Chris McKenna.

Damn, I was really hoping Jonathon Banks would stay on as a regular. :(

I'm sure John Oliver would at least make some sporadic appearances. I mean, he juggled his role in season 5 with his duties on The Daily Show, and Last Week Tonight only airs once a week. Duncan rarely ever has major roles in Community episodes, anyway.

Has anyone seen the SDCC panel?
It was kinda disappointing. Entertaining sure, but they did not reveal anything new except for maybe that John Oliver can come back since his show only airs once a week.

..Oh, and Dan Harmon's hilarious line: "You'll be watching the show the same way you did before, only now it's legal"*

 • Joel McHale also stars on E!'s The Soup.
 • Alison Brie is also on AMC's Mad Men.
 • Jim Rash is an award-winning writer and hosts SundanceTV's The Writers' Room.
 • John Oliver was on The Daily Show, is a prominent comedian, and also stars on HBO's Last Week Tonight.
 • Ken Jeong is a movie star and also stars in MTV's upcoming Ken Jeong Made Me Do It.
 • Jonathan Banks was on Breaking Bad and also stars in AMC's upcoming Better Call Saul.
 • Donald Glover has left the show to focus on other opportunities including his music career as Childish Gambino.
 • Chevy Chase has been an established TV and movie star for decades and left the show due to creative differences.
 • Gillian Jacobs has had various minor roles and will have a recurring role on HBO's Girls.
 • And now, Yvette Nicole Brown has been cast on CBS's upcoming remake of The Odd Couple.

Here's to hoping for expanded success for Danny Pudi (without interrupting production or hilarity of Yahoo!'s Community, of course), who has had other roles and continues to land other roles but is not yet prominent in Hollywood, Bollywood, or Planet Jollywood.

My reaction:
Honestly, I would have anticipated preferred Danny Pudi to be cast in another show or movie, since his character is more popular and his role as Abed is like a video résumé demonstrating his versatility as an actor. But at any rate, I am happy for Ms. Brown.

No I kinda think Dani Pudi might have typecast himself because I can't picture him in anything else as anyone who isn't Abed. Like when he popped up in Captain America, that was super weird, funny but I definitely thought, "Hey, Abed's in the Marvel universe! Cool."

And Jim Rash is a successful filmmaker. He won an Oscar for The Descendents. Gillian Jacobs has had a few movies roles, although they've all been supportive. And she made this awesome short film.

Star Wars. Zardoz. Cougar Town. Cool cool cool. Pop culture. Pop culture. I'm [in a movie]. Meta meta.

You might be right about Danny Pudi, but I'm hoping not. I don't see many movies; the only thing I've ever seen him in outside of Community was some TV broadcast of a movie called Road Trip: Beer Pong (I think). The movie was filmed before Community started. Danny Pudi's role was a small one as some crazy Arab taxi driver. The character and acting were low-brow, which makes sense considering the movie. Still, I felt... disappointed.

I am aware of Jim Rash's writing. I suppose I shouldn't have glossed over that; it is his talent and success. My previous post was pandering to my lust for seeing actors from one of my favorite shows on screen.

Hmm... I was completely ignorant of that short film. Thanks for the elucidation! I shall add it to my list of videos to watch when I have a good enough internet connection. I do hope Gillian Jacobs finds greater success outside of Community, as well. I've seen her in a TV show and remember Dan Harmon saying in one of the DVD commentaries that she has played a lot of tough, leather jacket-clad females living hard lives. Presumably, not much else (though, again, I may be ignorant).

I think this comeback is kind of a dumb idea since the cast keeps getting other offers and eventually they'll probably not be able to get their schedules in line after this season, which is gonna be really far off anyway

Can one really call it a "comeback" given that the show's sixth season will be premiering around the same date that it would have even if NBC did renew it? It wasn't in cancelled status long enough for anyone to really have missed it - the off-season break is pretty much the same length and the show's just moving to another outlet.

Plus, the fact that they're no longer on network tv would likely allow for more leeway in terms of the shooting schedule, as there'd presumably be less stringent deadlines.

Here's to hoping for expanded success for Gillian Jacobs, Dani Pudi, and Jim Rash (without interrupting production or hilarity of Yahoo!'s Community, of course).

Jim Rash is an award winning writer and also hosts the very interesting panel show The Writers Room. I believe Jacobs has a role in the upcoming season of Girls too, though it might just be a small part, and frankly I don't care enough to find out.

Yeah I just rewatched "The Winter Soldier" and Dani Pudi's cameo only makes sense if you know who the Russo brothers are but even then he fits very awkwardly in this particular Marvel movie because it is a more serious film than the others. Had he popped up in Iron Man 3 maybe it would have worked more in his favor but he's damned himself to the one role.

I'm kinda thinking this is nothing, but according to this article Alison Brie doesn’t know if she’ll be returning to Community.

She was announced as returning and her addressing it now is better than her not saying anything it all, if you ask me. The others may know just as little as she does.

Looks like the site's just trying to turn an off-hand comment into a news story. "Not knowing what the deal is with season 6" is completely different to "not knowing if I will be returning." At no point in her quotes does she indicate the latter.
