Deal Near for ‘Hobbit’ Films in 3-D
After months of negotiation and delay, Warner Brothers and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer are on the verge of an agreement that would allow the director Peter Jackson to begin shooting a two-part version of J. R. R. Tolkien’s “Hobbit” early next year.

I'm so sick of 3D movies. I don't understand why Hollywood executives think that this will make the movie any better. The one time where I seriously was impressed with the 3D was when I saw the short before Toy Story 3, cause for some reason it took the awesome concept and amplified it to 11.

They don't think it makes the movie better, they just see they can make the movie more expensive...

You usually have the option of seeing it in 2d, don't you? So let them make extra money from the people who squee over 3d.

Not all cinemas show it in 2D, and if they do maybe for 2 days or 3... so no, I don't have the option, even less so considering very very movies are shown undubbed where I live, maybe 1 every other month...

Why exactly are they making Top Gun 2? The first one was a piece of shit.

Why'd they wait 24 years for a sequel?  Why couldn't they have waited 204 years?

Tell it I hate it.

I was just thinking of that comic today, km.

Cool beans, Peter Jackson is officially directing The Hobbit and Tom Hardy (from Inception) is supposedly in Batman 3.

George Lucas proves that he is truly the master in the art of ruining things.

There is unfortunately not a thread called 'films I am not looking forward to'.

After Lucas came out with Star Wars I with Liam Neeson, and proceded to demystify what made a Jedi Knight so awesome, I stopped watching anything of his.

Hopefully the part about the live action TV show is right even if the rest of it thankfully isn't. I thought the TV idea had died out since it was supposed to air almost two years ago.

Just because they're denying it doesn't make the rumor not true. It just means they're denying it. Do I think the rumor is true? No idea. But I don't think you should rule it out just yet.

Bump: Apparently the new Batman film is called The Dark Knight Rises.

:O_o: Weird.

I was actually hoping they would go with the nickname theme and call it The Caped Crusader, but whatever.

I like the new title, very Frank Miller-ish, also (k)night and rise is some word trickery.
Glad they're not doing the Riddler, while a smartypants in the comics/old TV show, he doesn't feel right in the Nolanverse Batman to me.

Also, The Hobbit was in danger of being filmed somewhere other than NZ but not anymore, yay!

This film has already run into more problems than 4 films put together.  I'll go see it, even if only to reward them for sticking it out...

I like watching Top Gun.  Tom Cruise is Gay and Kelly McGillis is a lesbian and seeing them awkwardly trying to figure out a straight and steamy relationship is wicked funny.

Bump: Apparently the new Batman film is called The Dark Knight Rises.

Gay name.

Okay, so it won't be the Riddler, it won't be Mr. Freeze. Ras-Al-Ghul, Falcone and Two-face are dead. They said they won't re-cast the Joker, and Scarecrow has been done and depicted in a manner that wouldn't allow him to be made a main villain... who do we have left?

The Penguin: Probably unlikely on account of silliness.
Bane: Superhuman traits rule him out of Nolan's interpretation.
Catwoman: Kind of camp and exploitative, and the character was ruined too recently by that awful Halle Berry version.
Deadshot: Could be cool on-screen.
Hugo Strange: Fairly unremarkable and similar to Scarecrow.
Hush: Could be good - he's only a recent entrant into the rogue's gallery, but certainly a stand-out.
Killer Croc: Haha!
Poison Ivy: Unlikely...

You mean Batgirl! Batwoman is rarer.
Besides, Gordons daughter was too young to be Batgirl in the last one, unless there's a 10+ year gap between Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises we won't see Barbara Gordon be Batgirl for sure.

Aside from the usual trailer bullshit of putting in a million bajillion cuts per second and having ridiculous choral screeching, it looks pretty sweet to me.
