RIP Ernest Borgnine

I just read that on the IMDb; he had a good innings but it is still rather sad :(

A nasty shock and terrible to even try and imagine what may have prompted him to take his own life, if that is indeed what has happened. :(

He directed some of my very favourite films. I hope the memories of his work will provide a positive legacy that will endure beyond the tragedy surrounding his death.

While I am here, I should add my respects to Scott McKenzie. RIP to both.

Shit. Either way that's just...shit. :(
My next door neighbour recently was diagnosed with terminal cancer...this is all pretty close to the mark. I found it something very difficult to come to terms with as a  mere observer...

So it seems this was the best option he could see open to him. I can't pretend I "understand" where he's coming from or recommend his actions; I certainly don't think any less of him though.

That's some sad news.
And in some respects, it is an end of an era, as Tachyon said in the Deathpool thread, because I was looking up at the moon as we travelled down the motorway tonight and it felt just that bit further away. Without trying to sound too melodramatic...tohugh I am fairly drunk... He made history many years ago now, but today it feels like both himself and his achievement have passed into history. A champion has left us; now we need a new one.

RIP Neil Armstrong.

Bianca, I think you know Jobs died about a year ago, so I'm assuming your celebrating the anniversary of his passing? Just seems outta place with the fresh wounds. Can't believe we've lost Neil Armstrong. Just... damnit.

Jobs wasn't so much a "celebrity" as somebody who was reasonably well known and had something of a creepy cult following despite being one of the most enormously douchemongeringly cuntastic people to ever try to brainwash the entire world into thinking that their particular brand of snake oil is the snakiest.

Pretty mixed bunch, the people I was working with yesterday - whole host of backgrounds and age groups. All were dismayed by the news when it came through, and one around my age even broke into a (pretty good) rendition of Impossible Dream. Bravo, Andy Williams, RIP!

/edit - RIP also to Chief Inspector Dreyfus; Herbert Lom, who has passed away at 95.
