Burn After Reading
I liked it. It wasn't my fav Cohen Bros. movie but they have made a lot of great films already, so that would be a tall order indeed.
With the large amounts of star power that this movie brings it was a great relief to find that the movie does not rely on the names to deliver. I believe that the amount of strange detail brought to each twisted character was directly related to the quality of the actors used, but the dark comedy kept my attention outside of the individual characters. Don't expect non-stop laughs, but be ready for some painfully funny scenes from the foul-mouthed alcoholic Malkovich (and Tilda Swinton, playing as his wife) , the paranoid womanizing Clooney, and the shallow Pitt and McDormand. It also gives a snide look at the CIA and intelligence-gathering in general (J.K Simmons as the extremely laid-back supervisor :laff: )
Go see it if you want a dark laugh, or to see a group of self-involved weirdos cross paths in unexpected ways. Expect a lot of swearing and (of course) some blood.
A-, very entertaining.

No zing! It's apparently a positive review, so she wants the gun to shoot other people, not herself. Right? No zing!

Movies I saw recently, old and new:
Gattaca - Neato.
Step Brothers - Ok now I am sick of Will Ferrell, all his movies are the same, social idiots unlikely overcoming a problem with other idiots while talking about steeds and mythical references, ENOUGH!
Ninja Cheerleaders - It's got sexy dames, boobs and Mr. Sulu, silly but entertaining.
Hell Ride (Quentin Tarantino) - More sexy dames (including my latin crush, Leonor Varela), boobs, bikers and violence, it was pretty good.

Really? How so? I want to see it just because of Brad Pitt and George Clooney being together again. They are so good and funny together. They are the reason Ocean's 12 and 13 were any good.

Ocean's 11 sucked. Ocean's 12 sucked. Ocean's 13 sucked. I never saw 12 or 13, but based on the fact that they are all modelled around the same basic premise, I can tell they sucked.

Have you seen any other Coen Bros. movies, Hil? They can be very strange, but very well done and usually interesting (at least to me....)

I only saw one "Ocean's" movie and it was about what it seemed like it was going to be.

Agreed. I have a theory that 'Stranger Than Fiction' actually starred a completely different actor, also named Will Ferrell, who happens to look a lot like the Will Ferrell in all those other ridiculous films.

Yeah, I agree with you guys on Will Ferrell. But NOT on Ocean's eleven. What's wrong with you people?!

totalnerduk, no offense, but you aren't American. you probably just didn't get it. But I can't watch Shakespeare, so it's ok. We just have a cultural difference is all. :)

Wall*E (finally) hit the cinemas today and, since I had the day off work I went to the opening (10:00 am) session and, along with the five or so other people who were there, thoroughly enjoyed myself (and the movie was pretty good, too).  :D

Is that chihuahua movie for real or what?

Yea, seems like Disney is green-lighting some real crap, eh?
and that stupid song gets buried in your brain, arrg!

However, I thought WALL-E was brilliant :D

Yes, unfortunately hobbitboy...How many times can you say "Ay chihuahua" in your trailor? It wasn't funny the first time and it wasn't even funny the 30th time either, unlike some things that are just funny after a ridiculous amount of repeats (a la Family Guy). George Lopez is the knife in the heart though I think.

Lucky Miles
Three refugees from vastly different countries try to survive in the outback while they're tracked by lazy army reservists. There were occasionally subtitles and they mentioned Iraqi soccer once! IT. IS. CULTURAL. :nono:

This movie suffered greatly from the effects of winning a film festival award... but it was definitely much better than the usual crop of Australian cinema or ever!

B

Misery

I'll never look at a simple beating to death with a typewriter the same way again. My eyes are open!

But on that note, Kathy Bates really was scary. Are Rosie O'Donelle references still pop culturally relevant? I assume, "NO"!

Pineapple Express
Lols and lols, very good. Great fight scene.

A-

Broken Flowers
Seriously boring and dragged out in most places, and it kind of ends up nowhere, but Bill Murray is great at the depressed fed up face, so he's funny.
Also, there's some boobies.

 Tropic Thunder

I went to see on Wednesday night and I really enjoyed the film. It was so hilarious too. The start of the movie with the trailers was the best especially Satan's Alley. hehe I totally  Robert Downey Jr  for playing the best black guy on the screen and he acted out very well. I think he stolen the show not Ben Stiller. Ben Stiller was meh. As much as I love Jack Black I didn't think that he had the good parts in it.

Cannot believe Tom Cruse was in it till I seen the end credits . I have to say that he was really funny with the outburst threatening and abusive words. The dance was very annoying thought.

I would go and see it again. Just because of  Robert Downey Jr

The cinema didn't even peep when all those Australian insult jokes came out of the black guy's mouth at Robert Downey Jr.

He's right - they're not funny!! (and we've heard them all before, but really, they're not even funny jokes)... it was almost satirical during that scene with the American berating the "aussie" with the lines about "a dingo stole my baby" and "put another shrimp on the barbie"... Yeaaaaaaaaah and these people are getting paid to do jokes? That was HI-LAR-IOUS.

...

also, how could you have not known that was Tom Cruise? It was the worst kept secret in Hollywood..

Why are Aussies so defensive about that stuff? We don't know anything about you, so our jokes are obviously going to be lame. Accept it and shut up! <3

No, we are too sensitive about it. Especially when we're supposed to be internationally "famed" for our national sense of humour (according to this extremely helpful lonely planet guide; how does it get inside our national consciousness!?! )

So I watched some movie called Serenity the other night, and it was actually pretty good... it had space battles or something, which was neat.... but it also had this hot chick named River and she was a badass.... like it'd be rape all over the living room and stuff... oh yeah.
