I just watched the pilot of this show because I'd heard a lot of good things about it. I was kind of underwhelmed. I did laugh a few times but I can't even remember at what. And the laugh track. Oh, god. I hate laugh tracks. Like, I think the laugh track actually prevented me from laughing at points in time because it made the jokes seem dumb.

I will watch more when I get around to it because I think I could end up liking this show a lot. But, eh.

It gets a bit more funnier and the laugh track gets a little more easier to ignore...
I agree live audiences are so annoying sometimes!

I'm up to episode 17 and my conclusion is.... Sheldon is crazy...

I didn't particularly like the first episode back from the break, it felt very off to me. The show is about quick smart humor and that's not what the episode was about at all, it was about typical relationship drama that you can see in any show. That's not why people watch the show. I realize they had to come back and explain the last episode of last season but cmon...they approached it in an entirely upsetting way to me.

The second episode was great, very funny and right on track with the rest of the series. I'm glad they aired both back to back because if I had to judge the new season by that first episode I would have had my doubts about watching it the following week.

I watched the first 4 seasons the 3 days before season 5 came out and must say throughout it all it had lots of the typical sitcom-formula with lots of relationship stuff. Not as great as people made me think it would be.

Everything is formula nowadays, if you're going to judge things based on how much they follow a formula then you're always going to be disappointed.

The laugh track I can ignore nowadays, I just appreciate the science humour and the way it portrays the main characters.

That said, Bernadette's reaction to Raj in the first episode of S5 was hilarious. The way she yelled her compliment at him just had me absolutely rolling. Amy Farrah Fowler is as amazing as ever, Sheldon is just as weird as ever - though his heroic sacrifice may go down as one of my favourite Sheldon moments, and I still hate Priya and I'm kinda glad she's just a face on a screen.

"Buck up, sissy pants."

Bernadette is my favorite, she is just too cute. Any time Leonard's mom is on the show I just feel so bad for him. She's funny but also a cold, calculated bitch.

re: what Nutmeg said

The lafftrack doesn't bother me really either. I find it only bothers me when the show isn't funny, where it then becomes grossly annoying.

Me and my friend both agreed that Bernadette is just hot. I think it's just because she's so petite.

I actually have a friend that kinda reminds me of her... looks and build wise, of course.

Either way, I'm glad it's back. What with Doctor Who ending this weekend, and Futurama not on again for a while... I need something to look forward to. What better than this.

She's got the best rack on the show...that's hot :flirt:

I think she could be hotter than Penny, actually. Odd to say because I don't typically like blondes.

Also how weird is it that "Blossom" IRL actually has a PHD in neuroscience? I thought it was great in Season 1 how they mentioned that ...and now she's a regular on the show as AFF :laff:

I disagree. There's plenty of good television that doesn't follow a strict formula or use genre cliches.

I like how this last episode was about Amy and Sheldon and how they feel about each other without either of them ever interacting. It was cute when Sheldon judo-chopped Leonard at the end. And Bernadette, I was so afraid there was gonna be a fight but the end was just priceless.

That episode was one of the funniest episodes they have ever made. I was rofling the whole time! I love it when Bernadette imitates Howard's mom, it's so spot on it's freaky...

My thoughts on this show are:

The pilot was great. It felt similar to 'Futurama' in that it was full of smart science-y humour. Obviously, 'Futurama' is in a completely different league to it, but still.

Every episode since the pilot, lost that intelligence. It went from a show full of science-jokes that worked on two levels (either getting the science-based humour or just laughing because they're being nerdy) to a show full of science-jokes that worked on one level: them being nerdy. I've seen enough social awkardness in other sitcoms and I've seen it done better. Basically, this show just turned into standard, 3-walled American sitcom boredom after the pilot.

BUT, it seems to be slowly but surely getting back towards the pilot's quality with the most recent episodes. It's never going to be a show that I hail up as being great, but I'll put it roughly on par with "How I Met Your Mother" as a show that I can't help but feel is somewhat beneath me, but that I'll happily watch if I'm not in the mood for anything trying and I have nothing better to do. Both have their moments.

Did anyone see the most recent episode, where the opening sequence Leonard and Sheldon are in the comic shop and Wil Wheaton invites them to a party? (apparently called The Russian Rocket Reaction). In one of the background shots where the shop owner is talking to Wheaton, there is a Nibbler figure in his space suit behind the counter. Pretty cool!!! I don't even know which one it is which probably means it's too valuable for me...

Haha no I didn't notice that Randi I'll go back and check. I'm seriously sitting on nails about Bernadette and Howard's engagement, I keep thinking they're gonna breakup or something. I love Bernadette too much, I can't lose her!

Ok, I have some interesting observations.

When I first saw this scene closely on the laptop I did not notice the box, just the figure. This is the one I am talking about:

Here it is magnified and brightened. You can even see the outline of what appears to be Nibbler's third eye on the top. The colors are off because I messed with the contrast:

So then I noticed the box was for a different figure (not Nibbler). Okay. Well I know the line of figures those are, they are by a brand called Funko, so I looked them up as well. And here is the result:

But wait! The box this figure is in is the BLUE Batman*, this one:

Notice how the eyes on this figure are Black, not White.

So whether it is or isn't Nibbler, either way the figure that resides in that box is NOT the correct figure pictured on the box.

*Batgirl, my correction. I can't tell on my computer, is the one in the scene Batgirl or Batman?

I figured as much. I was just hopeful there was a Futurama shout out somewhere in that scene, I was perusing the comics so vigorously heh....but why the figure in the wrong box?

I am guessing now that mysterious third eye I saw was just a shadow :(

I wonder if they actually have the props department buy those or if some items are personal to the crew. Also is Wil Wheaton that big of a geek IRL? Does he give himself a boner thinking of his character? Hahah :laff:

I loved this last episode, all about Amy! The very awkward cuddling scene with Sheldon was priceless. I like how the show is really incorporating the female characters but at the same time I think there needs to be a balance with both the guys and girls. (The scene where they're all eating dinner talking about what to do with Amy was great). Oh and Sheldon blowing up on Howard and Leonard was hilarious.
