I used to catch some old stuff on PBS, but now I rarely see any British comedy.

As a kid, I liked Dad's army, and God forgive me Benny Hill.
I liked Mister Bean , but later I got tired of them after the endless reruns.
the rest of the list, in random order: -Blackadder -Smack The Pony -Big Train -most of Monty Python 's work (I haven't seen all of it yet)

In some Brass Eye episodes (you probably know which ones) you DO feel that Chris Morris MAY have gone to far. Although not that far removed from Day Today (albeit, with a little more controvertial subject matter).
However, he's giving it to crappy minor celebrity publicity junkies who are too stupid to see the wood for the trees.
I mean, what do they pay their researchers for? Smoking? The clues that it's a hoax are in everything they read! That's what makes it funny for me.

::Resurrects this thread:: Phoenix NightsClassic, absolutely classic. Quote from Second Series: Madame Zelda: To hear your fortune, first you must cross my palm with gold. Woman: Gold? Madame Zelda: One pound, love. Women: There you go. Madame Zelda: Thanks, love. Now you must ask your two questions. Woman: Two questions for one pound, that's expensive isn't it? Madame Zelda: It is love, and your second question....?

I don't think Brass Eye has been banned, in fact the "paedophile" one has been repeated since all the fuss, it wasn't really about that anyway but the way the media deals with it.

Nah, the Paedophiles episode wasn't and isn't banned. In fact, the ITC's complaint about this episode was that there was a brief reference to a real paedophile (Sidney Cook), and if that wasn't in the episode, there would have been no ITC complaint at all.

How did I miss this thread first time round. I love British comedy. I love Blackadder, Fawlty Towers, Red Dwarf, Ab Fab, Bottom, The Young Ones, Brittas Empire, Father Ted, Trigger Happy TV, Mr Bean some others that I've probably missed out I also hear REALLY good things about the Monty Python films. I haven't seen any yet but I'd love to watch one. From what you guys are saying, they seem really funny

We've played a few Working Men's Clubs with the band, and it's exactly like Phoenix Nights.

I've got the "Blue Jam" CD - which is very disturbing.
Obviously, I'm a big Chris Morris fan, and will defend his work, because I've always thought the stuff he does is funny. I've got most of the stuff he's put out:
On The Hour, The Day Today, Brass Eye and Blue Jam - on one format or another.
I remember his Radio One show, where he got the guy on a mobile phone to hassle a Cambridge Taxi Driver, hilarious - I got that on tape somewhere.

Man My Family isn't that show about that retarded kid and the mixed race family and Jasper Carrot? I hope for your sake it's not. Anyway here's a brief list of the best britsih comedies ever(Most bein mentioned before)
Black Adder (Cept the first one. The third one was the best, the millenium one was a bit crap as well) Red Dwarf (New ones are a bit sketch though) The New Statesman (surprised no ones mention this already) League of Gentlemen Alan Partrich (Esp I'm Alan Partridge) Fawlty Towers (Of course, probably the best) Father Ted (This is actually a British comedy even though it's made by and stars Irish people because the channel that producsd it is British(Channel4) Sad thing is RTE(Irish channel) were first approached to make this show but turned it down. Fucking Morons) Bottom (funnier than the young ones. Last seiries was a bit sketch though) Jam(As mentioned) A bit of Fry and Laurie Monthy Python The Fast Show(Has it's moments) The Comic Strip Presents (Man this was a class series. Don't know if anyone has seen it but it was Rick Mayell and aid edmunson and all that crowd, Nigel planner, french and saunders etc. Anyway they use to make these kind of mini comedy films. The best were the two spoof documentries about the band "Bad News". Funny shit. I'd recommend everyone to see the two. They also spoofed The Famous 5. Also very funny.)Okay that's enough from me for the mo. Take care.
