IJ&TKOTCS: A couple of problems here and there, but overall more hits than misses. I had a great time watching it. Even the romantic subplot was good (though I could've lived without the wedding), must be Allen and Spielberg's doing, because Lucas and romance, well....
Could've used a better opening, preferably a cold opening like
Raiders without any tie in with the main plot (Mac could easily betray Indy in some other way), because the Roswell body had zero impact. Definitely lose the Tarzan scene. And cast someone else as the FBI agent than Neil Flynn. Not because there's anything wrong with Flynn as an actor, just that during the entire scene I kept waiting for Indy to tilt his head and have an inner monologue: "I knew the Agent had just threatened my carrier, but I couldn't help feel that someday we would solve our differences over an appletini and pancakes... I love pancakes, I should ask Turk to make them every morning...."
I liked the references to Indy getting older, might as well play with it than against it (again I'm giving Spielberg and Ford credit, because Lucas and reality, well....), the jungle chase although it could've benefited if it was shot as a straight action scene with sarcastic remarks, than a slightly silly "changing places" sketch (still doesn't hold a candle to the truck chase in
Raiders ), the nod to Denholm Elliot, the entire 50s atmosphere on campus and a bunch of other things. Also nice to hear Indy haven't lost his dry wit (I guess I have to give part credit to Lucas, but you know...).
