Movie questions:
Monster-
-What the hell is it?
A monster, duh Or, we'll find out through the game.

Quote
-If we can we assume Tagruato's destroyed mid-Atlantic drilling station was somehow initiated to the monster's sojourn to NYC, why did it pick NYC?  Why did it go west?  Why didn't it go ashore in Boston or D.C.?
If you want the easiest way possible, NYC would be it. Boston is protected by Cape Cod, Washington by Delmarva. NYC is right on the coast. Plus, it's still pretty bright at that hour of night, and would thus be pretty obvious to Mr. Grumpy Pants.

Quote
-What are the mini-monsters in relation to it?
They look like offspring, in my opinion. If you look at the Hud-attacking MGP, it's body looks very similar to the face-suckers.

Quote
-Why did the blown up chick get blown up after being bitten by the minimon?
It's either a poison or a chest-burster, like from Alien. The fact that they rushed her somewhere else could help either case; either they didn't want the poison to get anywhere, or they didn't want the chest-burster to get out. I'll put my money on the latter. The bleeding eyes make me think monster-in-the-body.

Other, recently-changed stuff:
-Does anyone know what the graphic on Tagruato.jp says?
To Unfiction forums! (As in, check there. They were able to get a Japanese speaker/reader to translate stuff from the 1-18-08 website.)

Quote
-The TIDOwave page has been "locked" by the Feds (because they do it that way) under what appears to be an investigation into the terroristic destruction of the mid-Atlantic drilling platform (18 USC 2332b is foreign terrorism).  Does the extra "EC" in the "locked" graphic ("realistic locked graphic" ) mean they want to indicate 18 USC § 2332b (b)(1)(E,C)?  I didn't go through much of that page before the movie, so is it likely their fault or was it our favorite beastie?
I think MGP attacked the Chuai station, but I think that TIDOWave will get the blame from Tagruato. They hacked Tag's website, they blame them for a lot of stuff, so why wouldn't Tag want some pay back?

Edit: Here's the backwards message.
And, for the new page...
That damn Cloversdale thing.

You suck weiner. Your link = fail.

On the topic of research and ARG stuff.

I saw the original trailer, went to the site (I think...) didn't really look into any of the other site, and was still hyped by it. JJ was enough for me to be excited.

I don't mind that i don't know exactly what the monster was, or whether it died or not. If we got a nice little ending, explanation or an epilogue of sorts, i'd feel cheated and think they had wussed out of their idea. It was true to itself i think. Am seeing it again on tuesday.

Enough of your double entendres.
Heh heh, double...No!  I'm not going there.

Now that I'm thinking of Miss Explodia, my thoughts are drifting more toward explosive decompression.  I know, I know, "How is a minimon bite a vector for explosive decompression?"  Maybe it's not, maybe Slusho!'s secret ingredient is and the bite was either a catalyst or an unrelated danger.  I've got no real proof of this, but the Chuai Station thing got me thinking about that Norwegian oil station diving incident where one of the divers got his guts blown out by an eight atmosphere differential.

I guess I thought Chuai was norther than it was.  Still, it seems odd that the monster would navigate the fairly shallow New York Bay just to see the city lights, assuming it stood up to see over Brooklyn to see the city itself.

I also saw some back and forth about how quickly the military was there to fight the monster.  It would make sense that they had already attacked the thing while it was still at sea as shown in the night vision photo.  That would've likely taken place near to shore as the A-10 Warthog in the top of the frame only has a combat radius of about 300 miles and the nearest unit would have been the ANG base near Philadelphia, if I recall correctly.

Annoying.

Seconded.  Too much people, not enough monster.  I would love to see this movie reshot from a conventional standpoint.

A better monster would have been a giant lobster fighting a giant space robot.

And I found the minimouths a lot creepier than the Mister Zoidberg.

Man, that chick recovered pretty quickly from having a BLOODY SPIKE PROTRUDING FROM HER BOOB.  I'm pretty sure it was the very same injury that killed Trinity.

But Beth has the holy vagina. Rob ran across town while a giant monster and his little minions were on the loose to go and save her.

Or, from a more scientific stand point, it's possible that it didn't hit anything major for Beth, and it did hit something major on Trinity.

On the funny parts that Nix brought up from the Review thread: I loved the comedy in this movie. Flaming hobos, Superman and Garfield, the monster pwning the military and Hud. Good times, good times.

Less missing the point, more liking my own point better.  The characters didn't connect with me on any level deeper then "Ooh, which one's going to die next?"

Wait, Coldangel and I are in perfect agreement about something?  Yes, it's the Apocalypse, all right.  :p

I always knew I'd have a hand in it.

The characters connected to me to the extent that I wanted to drive a screwdriver into the back of their necks.

I'm perhaps out of touch with youth culture... I know young people are forever running around with their phone cameras and iPod cameras and camera cameras, but who would really be filming the monster while it's eating them?

EDIT: Furthermore, when you're consoling your friends over the deaths of loved ones or other personal trauma, it is bad form to be shoving a camera in their face.

In a city of millions, it's a pretty safe bet that at least one person would be doing it.

On a side note, I never got people who claimed that watching something filmed with a shaky camera made them feel sick. Like... HOW?! It has no effect on me whatsoever. Weirdos.

It makes me dizzy often when there's fight scenes or some such where the camera switches back and forth from one thing to another and everything is moving and flashing different colours...any time where I have no idea what's going on. But not sick, no. The only time I was sick was during Transformers, and I don't think it was a result of the movie itself. Although..

All seafood in general makes me sick, but there's a huge difference between something you physically put into your system, and sitting there motionless simply watching a screen. I don't get it.

And oh yeah, I said this in the movie review thread but I'll say it again here: Cloverfield = Awesome.

Just saw it #2 time.

Beamer hit it on the head, was about to say the same thing. City of millions. Someone had to be filming it, i'm sure many would, and of them, i'm sure in one of the stories they would stick together to try save a friend, and would get on a crashing helicopter...

People keep saying it unrealistic, but it'd be a shit house movie if they all died on the brooklyn bridge and it ended there...

Recorded the sound at the end on my phone, if i can be bother i'll upload it or something, but i'm sure someone already had.

Wiener or someone, is there a wiki set up for this? Is there somewhere to get all the info about what has been discovered so far in the ARG?

EDIT: Where the fuck did i pull SJM from. where the hell is he these days?

Nor do you run around your friend's going away party, telling everyone about who he slept with and FILM YOURSELF DOING IT on a tape that he's supposed to watch.

Hud's obviously not the most socially smart person. However, I know people who do this. It's not unbelievable at all. Other than the monsters and the military's rapid response (which could be explained by prior knowledge), nothing seemed too impossible. Improbable, maybe, but not impossible.

Wow, thanks coldangel! Awesome of you to go find that for me!   :p

Anyway, that's the best picture that can be found? That's a very odd distorted shot from the movie (I assume when it lunges at the helicopter). I mean, it shows it for like 30 seconds straight on when Hud is standing right under it...I would assume somebody would get a pic of that up or something...oh well.
Maybe if I see it again I'll try to sneak a few cell phone shots at good places.

Mmm, the sequel is from the POV of the other guy you see with the camera on the Brooklyn bridge.

Also, They'd planned a super packed HD-DVD release, and were pretty far into it apparently, but since that is dead, they might be doing a hasty Bluray port without the special features, which would royally suck. I hope they do manage to get the special features across.
